They can still compete. I think your definition of competition is just console sales…and even that is 2:1 wjich isnt terrible.

Could have fool me by how some people be acting. BTW i’m not one of these people. I don’t care about gate keeping games from more people being able to play them anymore. I also understand that it will hurt Xbox console sales even more, but it is what it is. Consoles sales is not everything to Xbox anymore. Its profit and total revenue. Did you know that Tencent make the most money from gaming, and they don’t even make hardware.

I think the end goal of all this porting rumors is that Xbox want to become the king of revenue. If that means porting to everything? They will do just that. They see the old way is clearly not making enough money on investment/return. They have been moving this way with PC porting first, to Gamepass, now to if rumors are correct? To putting all on everything. Basically make money from everyone.

Can’t really blame them. The end goal of any company is to make more money.

I forgot who said it but they basically said, Xbox has been fighting a war that they already lost yet are continuing to play the strategic game of the victor that beat you.

I think Satya sees it that way too.

Maybe him and Phil found a compromise where both can get what they want.

People are going nuts. Things are going to be just fine.

I can’t say I disagree. Xbox brought in almost 15,000 people that must be paid and worked into a business that was pretty much sustainable at a lower level of about 5 to maybe 10,000 not 20,000 plus. They can’t expect to be running to Microsoft to keep funding everything. However, I do think they are in a tricky place alienating their consumers and destroying the brand the fans love could sink the whole thing. Especially now since the console is what’s holding everything from a financial point. More console Game Pass subs more store spending on console. So, the way they handle this would be what decides things especially since their stock also took a hit. I would love to hear next week that everyone was wrong, and that the news is a new Xbox streaming device priced at 100 or lower is coming. This I think if they have the capacity could help with TV game streaming and maybe bring in more consumers.

Would love to see them follow nintendo and differentiate themselves from PS. Let’s hope this business E3 is meaty. Its smart wanting to stop playing in Sony’s game but not at the cost of nuking your brand this early

They already have with Game Pass, massive live service games and varied games over many different genres. How would you like to see Microsoft differentiate themselves from Sony and PlayStation?

I think they already do differentiate themselves. The issue is people just don’t love Xbox the way they do PS and Nintendo.

I dont have the slightest idea. Lets see whats their plans next week.

Okay.

Just want to touch on a trend I’ve been noticing with alot of journos out there…

Alot have taken to Twitter (X) to say:

“Why would anyone be upset that more people get to play a game?!”

Seriously that’s such a disingenuous and shallow argument against some of the outrage. They are all ignoring that this will indeed devalue the platform which will lead to less consoles sold. Less consoles sold means even less 3rd party support. Less 3rd party support would lead to even less sales which would lead to the demise of the hardware in the future. Alot of people have massive digital libraries so to ignore this concern is absolutely baffling to me.

If you truly want all gamers to enjoy all games then they should also be advocating Sony to do the same and bring their games to Xbox in similar fashion. This conversation has to go both ways.

Looking forward to what Microsoft has to say and hopefully they give you reason to invest in their hardware and continue to make digital purchases there.

I’ve seen some developers say the same thing…some people cannot see the bigger picture here

How can we take Microsoft seriously on anything they’ll say Monday honestly. What type of company who was serious would port their games to a console who won’t have much coming out this year knowing GTA 6 is coming out next year and their are tons of casuals who haven’t choose next generation systems yet. If anything they need to do the opposite and use Bethesda & ABK as an advantage. I would let this year play out up to the point GTA come out play out before I did anything other than paying PalWorld to keep their game console exclusive until spring 2025. If you don’t want to put COD in Gamepass I understand it would raise concerns if the revenue from ABK dropped drastically without the Gamepass subs it would take to offset those Xbox Call Of Duty Sales. I’m done talking about it though I just hope if we don’t like what we hear on Monday everyone stands on business and tightens up their wallets when dealing with MS overall.

Some ways MS can compensate the multiplat direction

  • make online play free. No more shitty gold or core tiers.
  • revamp reward system to become like it was. More incentive -boost gamepass with even better content ’ announce better hardware iteration. A 400 dollar digital series X.
  • get even more 3rd party games

This is from the top shelf :+1:

Yes, it’s a fairly gross (& dumb) thing for these people to say, i.e. which I expect to become the normal line of defense of their peculiar defense force if games do go multiplat.

It’s a form of twisted virtue signaling as well, like “how dare you be against more people playing these games!”.

I mean what the heck? Anything which devalues the platform I dropped 500 euros on is very bad news for me, especially when third parties mostly focus on PS5 as a primary platform already. I’ll be getting the short end of the stick.

I’d like to see the collective response of PlayStation users if Sony did the same, i.e. by comparison I believe Xbox fans have been very fair with their response tbh. We get held to some impossible standard where we shouldn’t complain & doing so is seen as being spoilt or something… yet we’re the ones who invested in the hardware & ecosystem.

It will devalue Xbox console even more, but Xbox console are sold at a loss. They never make money from it. They admit that in court. Whichever way they decide to go seem to be a lose lose for them. On one hand the hardware lose them money, but if they were to not make hardware anymore people will be pissed at them, but they lose money on every console sold. So the real question is how do they solve this tricky situation? Clearly the software make them all the money and not the hardware.

Do they go full software like Sega? Or keep make Niche Hardware for the fans, but release software everywhere? This is not a easy answer. Which ever way they decide to go people will be pissed.

My guess right now is they still make Hardware for the hardcore fans, but release software everywhere to make up the loss money from hardware.

Currently my guess is that they will still have exclusives, just some will be timed before heading to PS & Nintendo.

I can’t imagine that the only benefit will be Gamepass like many are alluding too as it would literally become a death spiral.

Less reason to buy Xbox > Less console sales > Less 3rd party support > Less GP subscribers & Game purchases > Repeat.

If a pleb like me can see that, the people paid to see that will.
