Ok, SneakersSO is full of shit. Always has been, there is no “game pass rumor”
But Jesse, his prophecies align with my rage! REEEEEEE!
Sorry, didn’t realise.
Will delete.
Hi. I signed up to tell you guys this.
SneakerSo on neogaf is the start of this rumor, and has claimed to be an Insider for many years and he has constantly FUDDED and lied about Xbox for all of it,
Here are some examples
In this post from 2017, he was adamant Microsoft passed on Playgrounds 2nd team game (which of course is Fable) and told everyone it was due to not having MTX.
Doubles down on it here.
Triples down on it.
He made a lot of claims about Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite being PS4 exclusive, yet it wasn’t.
And here he is claiming a new Fable wasn’t in development.
He has said many more untrue things about Xbox for nearly a decade now. Don’t expect his claims about Game Pass to be accurate. He spreads FUD.
it’s freaking awful. I’m completely dependent on Nintendo now because I don’t want Valve nor Sony to see a 30% cut of everything I buy. Why did the whole world decide gaming should only be on Steam or PS?
I think that we can all agree that no company is immune from making bad decisions, but there is basically ZERO chance that ALL of these rumors combined are going to happen as part of this shift. It would take all of 2 seconds for a large company such as this to have the platform data at hand to show how ludicrous it would be to completely destroy your platform ecosystem overnight which is where the majority of your revenue has been coming from.
IF they did execute all of that stuff at once, then it would quite literally be the most historic stupid move by a large corporation to spend $70 billion on an acquisition and never again hit the same quarterly revenue number as their very first financials reported with Activision and Blizzard on board. And I honestly think that is the very possible, if not likely, outcome in that scenario. Microsoft would be proudly burning their money from day one to never recoup that investment by destroying the very thing that they just bragged about having a record monthly active user count in their ecosystem.
Clearly there are things going to happen here with some games on other platforms, including PlayStation. And many of us may not agree with those decisions for whatever reason. But I definitely suspect that some disgruntled former employee (could be Mike Ybarra himself) is putting out every last bit of what was “considered” in internal discussions over the last however many months or year. That is definitely not the same as the actual agreed upon specific path forward when considering everything. I know that everyone wants to hear from Xbox ASAP, but I also suspect that they know that this needs to be a fuller response than some basic blog post or something at this point.
I appreciate the post, but in general we do not allow links to or screenshots to that forum.
I don’t blame anyone wanting to jump out because of:
-Zune -Mixer
Where MS dropped those projects like a rock.
That said, it’s honestly premature for me to comment on what is currently rumoured apart from the fact that MS needs to comment on it.
This apparent internal strife demonstrates why MS can’t really compete with Apple or Google who were able to build storefronts in a way MS could never. Even Steam accomplished something MS should have but didn’t due to lack of vision of bringing their Xbox vision to the PC.
The closest thing MS has to the Google or Apple App stores is the Xbox store and now they’re possibly looking at abandoning that.
I hope the coming weeks brings about widespread criticism of these internal forces that would jeopardize MS’s gaming aspirations. Porting games to other machines destroys the Xbox storefront (and all its revenues from massive games like Fortnite, Palworld, Roblox, etc) destroys innovation with Direct X & visual studio, destroys Gamepass, and essentially turns the Microsoft brand into something akin to IBM (only relevant to enterprise users).
It needs to be criticized for being such a bone headed decision that is a form of self-sabotage.
Yes, I am convinced that there will be no other generations for Xbox consoles. Microsoft kills Xbox, Xcloud and GP to become a third-party publisher and increase profits. It’s sad but honestly they had no chance against Playstation and it’s not relevant to have two such similar consoles on the market. The PC market has grown significantly in recent years. As I said, Microsoft could acquire Steam and make the PC its main platform with Steam Deck in hardware + game releases on Playstation and Nintendo. It would make much more sense for them and the income would be significantly higher. 100% on their games on Steam releases, 30% on third-party games on Steam, 70% on their games on PS and Nintendo. This is the best strategy if they stop console production.
np. just wanted to warn everyone
It’s Philover
Good.
Just saw the Phil tweet. Ominous as fuck. May try to sell my Series X before the value plummets.
Not happening atm though, my area is under state of emergency due to heavy snow for the last 4 days straight (this is my car lol)
“Business update” lol, this isn’t a positive sign.
Its good to hear him say xbox.
The word xbox is important.
Stay safe
Phil gives update, people who are negative take it negatively, people who are neutral take it neutrally, people who are positive take it positively.
Forum goes round and round in the exact same a vs b vs c circle for a week.
I just want to rip the plaster off and get this over with.
at least we know what to expect. without the word “business” you could still cope. no hope for copium at all now.
