The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

But I guess the argument is that they sell most on console now because it’s the option. But were they to put every game on every platform I suspect the likelihood is that would no longer be the case. At least not in totality.

The other issue is Microsoft as in the big boy Microsoft isn’t much interested in going back to a point where they are competing in the console market for a slightly larger share of a small pie. They almost exited gaming entirely until Phil sold the vision for a share of a much larger pie. Without that large pie Microsoft, the big boy probably says ‘I’m out’. Delivering the big pie though is causing them to eat their own slice of the small pie. Their risk is being left without any slice of any pie.

I’d say people are more likely to buy an Xbox to play sea of thieves than they are to play HiFi Rush. Sea of thieves is hugely popular and kids that want to play it are more likely than not to buy an Xbox or at least use gamepass.

I think the key point in all this to me, and what sets Xbox apart from Sony at this point is that - they ARE in a position to maintain an exclusive portfolio of games (more than their competition even) while releasing content elsewhere when it benefits them to do so. Xbox has such a wide and diverse range of development studios under them that even discussing studio counts becomes arbitrary at this point. I know some people in this thread are frustrated by this potential development, but I don’t think anyone is going to be dissapointed by the number of exclusives they bring to the platform, even if they do other things too.

You could pretty much solve all Xbox’s problems if they abandon consoles switch to being a PC brand, make Xbox branded or licenced hardware that like the steam deck allows for a simple console like operation or a full windows boot.

Then they can publish PC first and offer console ports as and when at later dates on a case by case basis and nobody bats an eyelid.

They literally have their cake and eat it. Don’t need to worry about third party support or how much branded hardware they sell. Simplify their marketing channels and make all these issues go away.

I think they often behave like this is where they are at anyway. But the problem they have now is with a console they need it to stay suitably competitive to maintain and grow third party support. Thats their headache as their whole business model is counter to leveraging console sales via their own content.

So you all switching to Nintendo now? Did i get this right?

I may pick up HFR for Switch 2 if it gets a physical release.

well if this rumor ends up being true and they do bring a first party game to ps or switch it will be bad. the conversation for EVERY game will be excluivity as soon as its announced. like jez said yesterday if its hi fi rush why not everygame? its a rake xbox keeps hitting themselves with. a lot of people will just stop buying stuff on xbox if u can get it on ps. iv just so over xboxs mixed messeging. they dont seem to value exclusivity and i understand why it just sucks. we will see though. i still wish them the best

Yeah! This is why i’m waiting on buying the new God of War, MLB being in xbox means that everything will soon!!!

oh wait……

MLB was a very specific set of circumstances beyond Sonys control. Choosing to port your games to other consoles will clearly lead to more questions.

It was announced as a console launch exclusive. ADF wasnt their game, Sega was publishing and then dropped it.

I don’t think that would catch on tbh. People enjoy consoles because they’re simplified, but I can see issues happening if there are multiple configurations.

no one is forcing them to make the game

Yeah no doubt people will be wondering if South by Midnight might go to other platforms eventually. Idk if that’s a serious problem for MS or just internet talk though.

The main problem is that some of you think that exclusives will make people buy Xboxes. Phil already told you, this will not happen. People will stay on ps5. This infamous interview was considered as a defeat talk, but this is - for once - a real guy talking real words.

What best can MS do is make sure that Xbox gamers have plenty of games to play, as he said that Xbox is the best place to play MS games.

With that kind of discourse, multi platform ports, maybe after a few years, will happen. That is logical.

Trying to imagine to be in Phil’s shoes, looking at these messages. If true, surely he is ready for what he will face from these fans.

it’s a slippery slope fallacy that has no basis in reality

consider the amount of money it takes to port a game over to Switch and Nintendo architecture versus the return. Do you really think if they put Gears of War on Switch the return for porting the game wouldn’t outweigh the profit they make on selling it.

lmao he’ll laugh like when day 1 pc was seen as a clear signal that xbox was shutting down by 2020

This entire, repeated topic of fearmongering is always shown to be slippery slope logic when you start asking for a justification for their concern. I’m talking specifically about this topic, and yes that applies to everyone sowing concern and then ignoring the massive Sony’s-doing-it-now-too elephant in the room.

There absolutely is a difference between good-faith discussion which employs learning from those provably-wrong and concern trolling/bad-faith… seeing the same garbage made by the same people despite all the counterpoints most certainly isn’t good-faith.
