Maybe, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility, if they are all about profitability now.
If you only have 500 to spend on a console, you likely dont have a large budget for gaming and thus if Game Pass still exists, you buy the console that has Game Pass.
And then some ramdom nobody will tell us that Phil and Satya just had a fight to the death because they disagreed with the direction xbox should have.
Dude is just capitalizing in the negativity surrounding xbox. If people will start believing everything to maximize the controversy its on them.
lol the rage is hilarious. As a consumer I don’t care as long as the games keep getting supplied to Game Pass.
Wait I just read what Timdog said on reddit gaming “a MS employee leaked this because he didnt want this direction and wanted fans to spooke MS” fucking ridiculous lol.
You may have feeling bad but please dont start believeing in everything thats coming out there. Im sure Jez who is suffering meltdowns right now will say “wouldnt be surprised” or something like that to fuel more this nonsense claims.
I can understand the disappointment many xbox fans are currently going through, I share it. I simply cannot fathom the direction this is going in.
The back of napkin math just doesn’t make sense to me. They’re going to hemorrhage users over the next few years and future hardware will sell a hell of a lot less. That means even lower revenue and profits from their own install base while giving competing platforms a 30% cut on their own software. I don’t see anyway for them to make up the lost revenue and profits on other platforms. Looking at the last quarter they made around $5bn from gaming outside of ABK revenue, I could see that halved in the future and that can’t be covered selling games on other platforms. Not only will they lose 3rd party sales, but I expect gamepass numbers to drop as users move away from the console. An xbox console that sells maybe 20-25 million over a lifetime is very much going to struggle to get third party games onto it unless they plan a PC centric console.
I can only say if this plays out with a good chunk of their games going multi platform then I’ll keep my gamepass sub going but won’t be looking to buy anything else within the ecosystem not when I can buy it on steam or Playstation and won’t be buying a console from them in the future.
A gamepass timed exclusive box is an OK proposition but not when PS extra which is not as good but still decent is available and I can then buy Microsoft studio games on said box and get playstations games plus their better third party support. Or go pc where everything seems to be ending up anyway.
Really hope people at Microsoft are paying attention to the blow back and make a course correction but I wouldn’t be suprised if they don’t simply because to many big corporations, the end user is just a blip on the spread sheet. Plus the damage done already looks to out weight what happened with Matrick and the Xbox one reveal
I actually believe this because there are a lot of people within Microsoft who want to go third party and be everywhere while there’s others who don’t.
I believe that there’s an internal power struggle yet again and this time, it’s Stuart, Hood, Nadella and shareholders against Spencer, Bond, Booty and Greenberg.
If this happens, I believe that Spencer retires and leaves. I also think Booty resigns and Greenberg departs. The only person that may stay would be Bond but even with her, if she has to deliver the bad news, I don’t think she stays because after being promoted two months ago and she has to deliver this bad news? Oh man. That’s throwing her to the wolves.
We’ll see what happens.
You know the worst? MS is going to kill Xbox consoles and is going to massively screw us people who still prefer to play on consoles big time, because imagine how Sony will be with factually 0 competition.
Thanks MS.
(Please I dont need the “but they are going to keep releasing consoles” bs; sales are abysmal and now they will decrease till they are zero).
It’s about the hardware. Making Xbox games multiplatform devalues the hardware & the ecosystem people have invested in. It says to consumers: “our games are on competing platform, so why bother buying our console? Just buy a PlayStation and you’ll get the best of both worlds”… because PS exclusives are obviously not going multiplatform on Xbox, are they?
There’s an understandable fear IMO that this policy could spell disaster for console sales & further accelerate the end of the Xbox home console as a product.
For people who’ve invested a lot of time & money in Xbox, then yeah, that’s a nasty prospect. It’s not like any reassurances or spin could fix it either. At the end of the day the market & consumer is king, so MS’s fate in the gaming industry depends entirely on whatever people decide with their wallet.
They’re going to have to hope Gamepass is enough of a pull to get people to buy the Xbox hardware.
Microsoft already collected our money, they don’t care about you, or me, they just want more money.
At this point I believe the initial Discord rumor. I expect Microsoft to leave the console hardware business, like Sega did.
If you think about it: Game Pass isn’t on PS and Nintendo because Xbox hardware is competition to those consoles. If Microsoft remove themselves from the competition by shutting down console hardware, the probably can put Game Pass on the other platforms. And just like that they have a bigger user base to sell Game Pass to.
Whatever they’re going to announce and however they’re going to spin it with their messaging, Xbox console hardware has no future in the long term.
This is what should scare people. According to more reliable leakers MS its still doing more xbox hardware but after seeing the sales trayectory of the Series console and the impact of this new movement do people seriously think the next xbox will have enough people to:
A. Dont lose to much money on the hardware (the next consoles will be far more expensive to make and thus MS will lose even more money).
B. Enough users for MS to support said console ecosystem? Will MS be bother to spemd millions and millions in, lets say, 20M-30M of console users.
C. Keep publishers happy?
That thing is not surviving an entire generation.
I agree ms shoudlnt do it and it devalues the xbox brand. But not to the point where im going to go and buy these games on a fucking playstation.
This news isnt going to get me to buy drsgons dogma 2 on a ps5.
At worst it might mean i invest in a rog ally.
IMO from the backlog: Forza Horizon 5 and State of Decay 2. I want to say Halo MCC but I feel the porting job would be too massive. I’m not expecting -everything- from the backlog for resource reasons lol.
Uhmmm killer instinc, grounded…uhmmm flight sim? Dont think they will bother with age of empires or halo wars. I could see Halo infinite multiplayer…lets see lets see…Gears 4 5? Pentiment and ori I could see it too.
What other game is left?
Someone has leaked Microsoft 2024´s business plan for Xbox:
- Crunch the numbers of consoles sold
- Offer our games to competitors
- ???
- Profits
If they launched it next month. Sure.
We dont know what will happen in 3 years
People acting like ps5 will get every xbox game day and date and xbox will be meaningless. Sure if you want to pay 70 bucks and wait a year for the odd bethesda game…Go ahead.
Serious question…were people alive early xbox one gen?
Yes it had ezclusives…but fuck man it had fuck all 3rd party support from japan.
Look at it now.
Now i will draw a line on gears and forza. Those should never come to ps. And and i dont think they ever will.
At the very least ms will oush back on certain games. Those being the ones
As per the MS vs FTC documents, the next xbox is apparently releasing in 2026. Do you seriously think they will change perception in these 3 years? I dont see it.
Gamers and medias will force Microsoft to port all their games, because they will stop to invest in the Xbox ecosystem that is redundant
Seriously, if tomorrow, Microsoft shows the new Perfect Dark, and says "Guys, this one you know… it’s going to be an Xbox console exclusive for at least a year! For real! Buy it on Xbox!. ". Gamers and medias will laugh at them, wait, and buy it on Playstation 12 months later if they don’t have a PC. Guaranteed.
I think one of the issues is the metrics & data MS use to reach conclusions. It works for a lot of their business but perhaps not home consoles.
The Xbox One tv tv tv approach was evidence of misinterpreted user data which MS believed meant people used their console primarily for Netflix & movies. In this case I ‘fear’ they could be taking the current install base & Xbox revenue for granted & not realize Gamepass on the Xbox consoles (& all the other revenue they get from their player base) can suffer greatly if they devalue the hardware.
It means current Xbox owners will spend less on Xbox & its ecosystem if Xbox publishes its games on rival platforms (some will straight-up sell their console & buy a PS5 instead). So when some people at MS do the math & assume third party sales on PS & Nintendo would ‘add’ to the current Xbox division revenue, IMO they’re not taking into account potential loss of revenue from their own customers.
bruh. I expected this to happen but not this early.
