The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

I mean there really shouldn’t be any Xbox first party game port begging here on this forum lol. Can’t be bothered with what people do on other forums or sm.

I think those discussions will bleed over onto this forum like it always does.

So then Xbox is still the only one going to be releasing on competition’s boxes? I think the point is easily made that this has a negative impact long term and it already has due to every game announcement being unsure of where it’s going. Even after the Blade announcement you still have people that believe now that it’s coming to PS5.

The problem is that this ambiguity keeps people playing elsewhere, keeps all medias writing stupidities about Xbox and pushing shitty narratives, and it means less console are sold and we are still missing several 3rd party games due to the platform now being competitive enough.

I, as an Xbox gamer, shouldn’t need to buy a PS5, Switch or even a PC to play games that come out on all those platforms except for Xbox due to my platform of choice making it easier for the competition. If the competition doesn’t do it, then why should MS do it? Owning several consoles is a waste of money for what little games I’d buy in the end; but why are we always getting the short end of the stick?

Really hope the rumour is something stupid like Psychonauts 2 going to Switch or Ori going to PS5 honestly as anything else will again get blown out online and in all circles that Xbox games are not exclusive anymore and push the wrong idea to people that they can just keep skipping Xbox as is somewhat already the case.

The reality is that most of those people will not be buying Gamepass, Xbox accessories, or even look at investing in MS’s ecosystem, only for what? A few milion dollars at best for a few hundred thousand copies in sales? The reality is the lost customers cost them more than what they’ll be making by selling a few games on other systems (not including PC). There’s a very good reason why Nintendo and Sony don’t do it and why they both are selling more consoles than before…

I feel stock wise their other services had a bigger impact and Xbox not much . That’s a different conversation , so I’ll move on . I think what made me said many games possibly going the other way is due to “insiders “ saying more games going multi platform .i like Xbox exclusives , but if it comes a time where a decent amount is on other consoles . Then I’ll strongly consider making other platform main driver or just go pc

I should probably cool it a bit since some emotion in play due to a lot of uncertainty being discussed this gen about a brand that I have a strong attachment to

What was Hi-Fi Rush (if this is even the game) doing for the ecosystem (games sales, console sales, subs) for Xbox to make it one of the big draws for the average consumer? Not downplaying the game’s quality, but we know it wasn’t exactly a huge hit. I don’t necessarily think releasing on Switch or wherever else is going to make it one, but maybe Xbox does? Maybe the devs wanted it to be on another platform?

I know hardcore gamers (us) go on about mixed-messaging and “identity” but to the average consumer these smaller games don’t really contribute to Xbox perceived identity nor do they care about or are even aware of the “mixed messaging”.

It’s not the end of the world if true, but I also think it’d be the wrong decision to make. :man_shrugging:

It on its own? not much, but it along everything else is very considerable, a game like HFR especially grows a cult following that will word of mouth it until someday it blows up with sequels and becomes a brand image.

Everything else isn’t coming along, and a cult following can still come and blow up the game with sequels. :person_shrugging:

It’s also especially great when recommending a console to others you can have a great list of games to recommend people who are coming from Switch or PS5 and are interested in games that are Xbox console exclusive, its why hardly anyone switches ecosystems for 1 game but if you give them a list of 10 the chances are far greater

If you think the ecosystem and Xbox is “doomed,” not even sure why you’re posting here.

Safe to assume when Nintendo Direct goes on air, people here will be like:

The slide explicitly states “multi-platform” not “PC”. This isn’t debatable, it’s a matter of fact at this point and implying/assuming it can’t mean beyond PC (when we already have The Show on Xbox) is gaslighting.

There are a few of you fomenting discord from a rumor whilst simultaneously ignoring the reality that Sony will, and is already, starting down the same approach. We’re done constantly fighting the same disinformation battle with some of you, and the community clearly agrees.

Right so I feel I’m on the right track here.

Way I see it is: Western devs will stick with Xbox thick and through because Xbox has always maintained that the platform is a good place to play them and always kept the partnerships strong. Western developed indies that are “Switch/PS/PC” happen but are pretty rare.

A game like HFR getting ported to Switch and games that exclusively skip Xbox (again indies and Asia-based games) are two entirely different subjects in my mind. With MS building their JP team I do think there will be less cases of skips (never hitting 0 skips) but ultimately it was born from MS failing to make Xbox a strong place for those games due to essentially cutting off support for them around 2010 and only winding it back up ~2018. Posted it here before but Sega putting Yakuza on Wii U before Xbox One showed that it was never a popularity or console sales issue, it was always a “we don’t think that platform is worth it” issue, so that’s why I think MS having their new JP team that does the negotiating will be a great help.

In the end I guess my point is HFR already helped in this area by probably getting a good number of Xbox users who don’t normally play games like it to start trying out games similar-ish that are upcoming, and showed that Xbox themselves care about games like it. I personally don’t see how the game going to Switch affects that.

I’ve always thought that trying to improve support in this area was a matter of getting MS’s own audience into these types of experiences, not trying to syphon people from other platforms who are into them (very tall order).

I swear, things can be questioned and criticized without it being about doom and gloom. And I realize some bad actors are being overdramatic in their reactions, but not everyone is.

I’m obviously referring to the bad actors, and not you. I responded directly to you with a different post. :person_shrugging:

I agree, there is always room for good discussion. We can wonder how/why things happen but as long as we know in the end that we lack too much critical info we can’t pretend like we know it “better” like so many do.

Things (music, movies, books, games) develop cult followings due to access. You can’t develop a following if people can’t experience the thing in question. The Thing is one of the greatest movies of all time. It bombed when it released and developed its status by being screened in cheap theaters, traded on VHS tapes, video rentals, shown on TV, and available on just about every home media iteration in existence.

Microsoft is rebuilding the reputation of their first party apparatus and are currently the last place console manufacturer. You extend these olive branches into other ecosystems to expose those user bases to the new you. They also make the mothership happy (you know, the parent that just spotted you 80 billion dollars) in the short term. These are building blocks for the future. You want these users to see what you are doing and develop interest in your future products. They are practically marketing beats.

And the end goal isnt specifically to sell them your console. MS only has to convince them to take a half step. “Well, I have a computer, I suppose Ill subscribe to PC game pass” (or buy more MS first party titles on steam)

Do you guys think we’ll get official communication about this? We got a Phil interview pretty quick after the Tim Stuart debacle. Thus far, this is just a rumor so I think we’ll be left in the dark

Sony Playstation titles will also be coming to mobile platforms too. This will show after the PC effort is in full force. They have already done acquisitions to bolster their mobile development efforts.

If it is real we will when it’s announced.
