You have one Zenimax employee liking a tweet out of a company with hundreds of manager positions, thousands as a division. People take this shit too personally
Xbox users haven’t been conditioned not to buy games though. Hell Persona 3 RE dropped day one into gamepass and it was at #1 for Xbox on Amazon. Xbox owners have always bought games Gamepass or not.
I think it’s more MS keeps changing their strategy because they badly execute it, if even longtime fans seem to have reached their limit. I’m seeing people ready to go to war for Xbox just a month ago now abandoning ship. It’s fully on MS, it’s not like customers are good only for their wallets.
How are you going to grow GP subscribers if you don’t have exclusives?
People aren’t going to buy a $400-500 box for GP alone if they can get those same games as well as other exclusives somewhere else
This isn’t Netflix where you can access it anyway, buying hardware is a much bigger ask so you have to give good reasons for them to buy it and even Netflix without their hardware knows they need exclusive content
Like I get the logic of “free” here vs 70 somewhere else but it feels like something a suit would come out with because it ignores how gaming works
I might be in the minority… but I’ve been buying most of the Japanese games that launch on Game Pass. Just to show that much more support for the platform when it comes to those games that we miss out on too often.
You know what, you are right, this is just one guy in a company with thousands of employees.
The tweets thatxbox dude is liking and rt are doing more damage than good haha
You can be annoyed at the guy, but no one person ever speaks for a corporation like that. Nick likes tweets I think are dumb as shit all the time
That tweet is talking about first party games which they did say their sales got hit with GP.
Xbox has been working on taking Game Pass to TVs, Quest 3, phones, browsers, etc.
If they have a ton of games people like to play at $70 a pop and someone sees an option to subscribe on their TV or laptop then that might grow subs over time.
So have I, but not just Japanese games.I bought Starfield day one as well, and Forza , etc despite them being on Gamepass. I always saw it as a rental service at best, if I wasn’t sure about a game I could try it there, then buy if I liked it.
They can’t have it both ways, that’s the thing. Also nobody forced them to put games day one. It’s like blaming people for your own decisions, which is stupid at best
guys, I think these all leaks are purposely done by Microsoft to find out the leakers and plug all info holes.
This was my cope for the day. cheers.
And to think me seeing Arsenal beat Liverpool this morning was me thinking was the only bad thing to see this morning.
Sure how many of their subs are on those platforms? Very little I bet, the vast majority are on console, the thing they are screwing with
I have an idea, maybe a crappy idea but still an idea, make the next Xbox an open platform, like a PC basically so you’ll be able to access Steam and other stores at the price of a console, this would be one of the big selling points and you’d still get access to Steam games and that would mean the Playstation games that are on Steam as well, this console will also be the next Xbox console as well so all of your 360/One/SX games will be playable in it too, this could be one way of adding extra value to their console and not just being “The Game Pass Box”
If the goal is to basically go the Windows hardware route which uses Surface to help steer the direction and quality while allowing third party companies to provide the bulk of the hardware I can get onboard with that.
I’d love to buy a premium Steam… I mean Xbox that used the existing Xbox backend and UI to give me access to Microsoft and other providers stores and games. And if that meant that there was Halo on a PS5, I don’t really care. I’d be getting a degree of flexibility and choice from that change that would benefit me a lot more than losing an exclusive game.
If it’s just Xbox wants to have their cake and eat it to… Publish basically everything elsewhere while providing no additional benefits to people in the ecosystem. Well, they can keep that.
Worst case scenario with two young kids and a couple of Switches I’ve got more than enough to keep me busy until something beneficial comes along.
All that being said, I can’t see this decision having been a recent one. Surviving discovery during the ABK acquisition without being leaked, or Sony fighting it so hard if it wasn’t going to mean anything in the end.
When did they blame people for their decisions? They always knew it was gonna affect sales
If they go multiplatform their next box will be worthless for like 95% of the market. People already don’t make waves to buy their current boxes with console-exclusive games on GP day one, remove the “console-exclusive” bit and you reduce the market even more, I think below the “is is worth it” level. Putting pc stores on a box is almost impossible, it would crash immediately, because pc releases are wildly different than console ones.
That’s the tone of that Xbox guy on X, it seems a resetera post.
