The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Considering they were already profitable without bringing their games to other consoles, I think they should follow down that path as the more games are exclusive to more people will start considering switching over to your side.

The competition had had it too easy and with too many exclusives for too long and it’s time it has swayed in Xbox’s favour. If they managed to survive and keep it profitable at their worst, imagine how Xbox could do now with an arsenal of game developers. They’re basically holding all the cards now, just gotta play their hands right!

From how big they’ve become that just won’t work. They now have over 20,000 developers. I imagine their operating income must have skyrocketed. Regarding all this they also did try to make a distinction when they made Sara Bond head of Xbox and Platforms. Seems to me like Xbox under Microsoft gaming will have its exclusives and could be seen as a subsidiary while Microsoft gaming proper can publish games, they deem multiplats. I won’t be surprised if Microsoft gaming decides to publish third party games for all platforms like Amazon is doing for Tombraider after all they have 4 publishers under them that have published games for other publishers.

ya pretty much. you can say whatever you want but at the end of the day your releasing 1st party games on other platforms. not sure if anyone posted the clip from min max today. Tim scheffer was on there and they were asking him about posyconaughts on switch. This is gonna be a talking point on every xbox game in every interview going forward now and its xbox own fault its like this. sony didnt beat xbox this gen. xbox beat xbox. on xbox two today jez said you have to move on if it bothers you like show them with your wallet and thats probably what im gonna do if its confirmed. i know people who already cancelled gamepass. sucks. I hope xbox bounces back but its like they are always bouncing back from thier own mistakes

I actually decided to do this this year, I still have a Game Pass sub that has 2 more months or so until it expires but all I’ll be playing on Xbox this year is my backlog, might play some Game Pass games before the sub expires but I own a ton of games I haven’t played yet like the new Star Wars and Cyberpunk expansion among many others, there’s just too many rumors about them going third party and to be fair the Microsoft CEO himself has said he isn’t a fan of exclusivity, so I’m in a position currently where I’m not sure it’s smart to keep purchasing games on Xbox consoles, which is a crazy thing for me to say now when not that long ago their commitment to backwards compatibility made me confident they were the best console to buy all games digitally on, I won’t be doing it this year at least, I have a big backlog and that’s I’ll play on Xbox this year.

I seriously believe they’d be all in on launching all games on PS5 day one if Sony had allowed Game Pass on PS and I would probably buy a PS5 at that point and play all Xbox and PS games in one system.

What is the fear here? That they stop making consoles and you no longer have a way to access your back catalog?

Who does it effect if people ask? Seriously.

This seems like an overreaction to me. Do you really think they’re in danger of leaving the console industry?

This is precisely what I fear and I don’t think it’s an overreaction to be cautious, I’m sure we’ll be able to stream all of our owned Xbox games eventually though and hopefully streaming is good enough for me when that time comes.

I think they are yes, but they probably have another console in development.

they have been working on next-gen since before last gen. That’s how it always works. The “tape out” process is extremely long.

Are you buying on a different console or just not buying at all?

We need to get this outdated mentality of a console market out of our heads. This isnt the 90s or early 2000s anymore. If ms exit the console business it means thr console business is stagnant and will change.

If the next xbox is ms last xbox then ps6 will be sonys last console. Nintendo may last an extra gen at best.

i think and this is an extreme case if this turns out to be true about ports and xbox being semi third party there will be a good chunk of people who leave(maybe big amount maybe small who knows). the damage to the brand will be super bad and confidence in xbox from customers and developers goes away and less third partys come to xbox and less gamepass subscribers as well. at that point xbox could go full third party. im not saying they will but there is that chance. I know people say they have consoles in develoment but just like surfaces they had made and ready to ship they can cancel them at any point. this is my extreme worry. in reality its probably gonna be older games that come to ps after a few years but I do think once this happens at some point everygame will be everywhere . the crazy part is we dont know because they wont say anything so its back to just waiting and id rather just play in the more stable brand which is ps. Sure I hate the PS fanboys but im not worries about ps going away or them publishing there big games anywhere else. and please dpt think im fear mongering but a lot of fans feel this way

Although we don’t have an official platform breakdown, Ghostwire Tokyo never was million seller when it was a Playstation exclusive. After it was on Game Pass, it passed 5 million players. That’s why I don’t believe the rumors at all — it’s mass hysteria to me. The notion that a $30 Microsoft Game Pass game would suddenly bring extra revenue from Playstation fans thanks to Sony is hilarious. Check the Playstation store, Sony barely markets their own AA games — Hi-Fi Rush wouldn’t even be on the front page.

Quote me on this: this is not happening. Maybe it was planned, discussed… but it can be cancelled too.

Valid, but if MS does leave and your stuck with PS only, you have a far bigger problem in that space.

This is true. a world without xbox or the other 2 is not good

If the strategy of porting games elsewhere does happen, even though I do not like it, I do believe it is only select titles and after at least a year or 2 after the original Xbox release. Generally after the initial honeymoon period, games do not really do that well elsewhere which is why I never understood stuff like FF7R being released on PC so late as it barely sold any copies so the game almost becomes irrelevant by then, especially at full price.

I think MS’ strategy is to make a bit more money that way, try to lure people by showing some games, but also like some have said, I think the main strategy is that Gamepass becomes the main Xbox exclusive and the place to play all those titles first if you don’t want to wait an extra year or 2. Don’t know if it’ll work, but I do think that’s what they’d do if the rumours are true.

Leaving consoles out would be pure suicide as customer confidence of all their purchases disappearing would be enough to have a massive exodus. Plus Gamepass works as the library grows over time so I think MS absolutely needs to keep BC going long term as the back catalog depends on it, same for their cloud initiative.

So again, while I do not like the situation completely if the rumours are true, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything until we see how the average Joe will react. The only thing that sucks is that social media and gaming news stuff spreads much more than before as I even hear casuals in the real world talking about the negative stuff I see online, so the ripple effect of the bad press this could have does indeed spread a lot more than in the past, and considering every freakin “gaming journalist” seems to have a boner for negative Xbox news, we all know they’ll jump on the opportunity the moment games are announced as coming to PlayStation and that shit will spread like wildfires unfortunately. I can already see the made up headlines of MS exiting the hardware business and whatnot just for the click baits!

I will happily bet you a game of the winner’s choice that this happens if you are game lol

Those “internet media” only do those posts because there is soil, there is a demand for that kind of news. The problem is that both Sony and Xbox fanboys react to these news, so this is no-brainer for those “media” to dig that hole.

If Xbox gamers did not care about those rumors, then there would be less of these. OF course, Sony fanboys entertain that kind of rumors, knowing that the Xbox community feel bad about it.

A counter example : there is no point for the media to point out that there is a current lack of Sony 1st party, because Sony fans do not care about those news and feel confident no matter what. The main problem with bad Xbox news is that the Xbox community is the first client/clicker for these news.

Some of this is insane, are people really believing that t-shirt nonsense

MS stand to make far more money by having a console and having multiplatform games, than being a third party publisher without a console.

I will not be buying at all this year on any platform, at least not at full price, I think it’s healthy too for my wallet because I have a big backlog of quality games that I haven’t even touched yet but I’ve kept buying and buying other games and ignoring my backlog, I will very likely subscribe to Game Pass again when Hellblade 2, Avowed and Indy come.

I have a big disagreement here because Playstation isn’t Xbox, unless PS5 sales totally drop off in massive numbers and then the PS6 does as well because all of a sudden gamers moved on to PC, Mobile or Streaming then Sony will not be leaving the console market and there is no sign of what I mentioned happening any time soon, I think there will be a PS7, a PS8 however? Now that is probably up for debate but that will be by 2036 or so.
