He was saying that for regulators. He was saying they wouldn’t use CoD as a cudgel to force Playstation users to switch to Xbox, because that behavior would have doomed the deal. Xbox cares more about revenue and profits than they do about the nebulous feelings of nerds on the internet. I know this is hard for some people to understand and accept, but it’s reality and some of you need to face it.
Literally the perfect GIF choice - you sir win the GIF award.
I was referring to an interview on the new Xbox Podcast after the acquisition closed, not regulatory talk. And didn’t say they need to weaponize COD. But the leadership communication (and in this case Phil) all too often first does not want to agonize other gamers rather then luring them in. Again, I think these smaller games matter to set apart their ecosystem and I want Xbox to be more competitive. Let‘s leave it at that. I see that many disagree and that’s fine.
I‘ll stop now, promised, and return to Yakuza: LAD
Lmfao did you just compare nintendo taking ANIMAL CROSSING multi platform when they haven’t even ever put a game on pc to this??? This is a small title that was shadow dropped, and had about zero mass market visibility. not even a physical release! you are unhinged!
Honestly, I think there are too many games for any of it to really matter. The average consumer doesn’t know a fraction of what’s actually happening with each of these platforms, so I think it’s hard to really pinpoint what does/doesn’t set each platform apart. For example, go ask someone who doesn’t already have an Xbox what Gamepass is and they probably won’t know.
For us, everything is so incredibly important, but to everyone else, it’s not. Playstation is the cool thing, Xbox isn’t. That’s the perception and it’ll take years of releasing critically acclaimed games, keeping console prices low and generally doing consumer positive things for that to change. I honestly don’t think it will change, but I’m not known for being an optimist.
Also, just a friendly reminder that these are just my opinions, I’m not stating any of this as factual information, so feel free to rebut me if you feel differently. I’m not trying to sound condescending.
Maybe part of my frustration indeed is that I feel the perception should have already changed more because Xbox is so vastly improved. Could be. Anyway, we found common ground, I do agree that it’s a marathon especially with game dev cycles now being incredibly long. And I share the pessimism
Dope for the Nintendo fans if true. Hell of a game.
Do they have? There was this Insomniac quote about Spider-Man never coming to PC or something. A lot of Playstation fans also lost their minds about PC ports. I would not call this strong communication.
If its such a minor game, theres no harm keeping it exclusive.
It’s slightly annoying to me, especially since it tends to be a one way street. But it being a Japanese game and Switch being the only console relevant in Japan I can sort of see why they would do it.
Playstation has definitely had fumbled messaging, a lot of it from Jim himself but with Xbox it feels like something that crops up every damn month at this point
Playstation are also in a position where mixed messaging isn’t going to hurt them whatsoever, they are set for at least the rest of the gen, Xbox is still in a distant third place console wise at least and can’t afford to devalue it anymore than they have been
I think it all depends. Handhelds are being released left right all over the place. CES will reveal the CLAW and maybe a few more contenders who knows maybe Apple and Samsung may join in. At that point there is a chance Xbox may begin to lump the Switch 2 in the same category as any handheld after all what’s the difference between Switch and Steam Deck both have their stores it’s not like Valve is releasing Half-life Alyx on any console. Right now, the Switch 2 idea is no different than any other gaming handheld other than the publisher makes exclusives, a stance which could be embraced by the other handheld makers anytime. In an age where Xbox is trying to go mobile putting something like Hi-Fi Rush on Switch could blow up the game and drive audiences to it assuming it’s released also on mobile.
The smaller games being available on Switch or whatever doesn’t decrease value of the Xbox console to the average consumer (they didn’t buy an Xbox for Ori, Pentiment, Grounded, or HFR lol)
I’m surprised Hi Fi Rush can run on Switch. I assumed Pentiment would come to Switch if anything was going to make the jump.
People have this idea that if Hi Fi Rush comes to Switch that Xbox would keep the sequels exclusive. I don’t think Xbox operates that way. If Xbox goes out of their way to establish a fanbase for a specific franchise on Nintendo platforms, they’ll support them.
I’m an Xbox + Nintendo guy so these collaborations are fun to see, but I thought Xbox would have wanted to hold tightly to this particular IP. It has more “mascot potential” than their other newer, released IPs imo.
Yes it does.
Why didn’t those games move consoles/subs when they were released then?
Because people thought they would come to switch after Minecraft Legends did
Yeah…This really going to need a thread because I sense 99+ notifications on “is too” and “are not” battle…
I think we feel this different because we are Xbox fans. If you are a Nintendo fan there is concern about a lot of stuff we dont see here. Same for Playstation.
The other thing is the same with every news. People only listen and focus on the bad things. Why are we talking about Hifi Rush on Switch and not about the Dev Direct next week?
Sure good sales can cover lots of fumbles. But as we learned from the leaked docs this doesn’t even help Playstation.
