“stop the bleeding”, man it’s the best selling game ever

Well that is how we were told it worked. Bethesda games for places where Game Pass is…unless it doesn’t do well enough apparently.

Told by who lol? All of this is still conjecture and rumours with zero official comunication.

But Sea of Thieves is, and that’s the other game being floated around.

Assume it is true.

I never said all Xbox GAAS games would go to other consoles and am not sure where you’re getting that. I was replying to you saying MLB only game over because of contractual stipulations. @Doncabesa used Marathon coming over as an example, but stated it was, again, due to contractual stipulations, and stated there are certain genres/types of games that benefit from multiplat releases. I simply said there’s no proof Playstation, and certainly not Nintendo, are releasing their games on other platforms absent those stipulations, including games that would benefit from it (e.g. GAAS games), as evidenced with Concord and Fairgames.

This is a different situation with Microsoft, without contractual obligations, willingly porting over a single-player game in Hi-fi Rush.

I’m assuming Switch 2 will be massive, Wii U from the beginning seemed like a massive mistake and like Nintendo massively miss read the market, I doubt they’ll screw it up but obviously we don’t know how the market will react yet, the Switch could be a total fluke success, we shall see, I doubt it because they still have a lot of massive IPs, people will buy their system for Pokemon, Mario and Zelda.

Aye sorry, I misquoted you there

This I agree with. Existing games that are already multiplat should stay multiplat.

Tbh even if SoT comes to other consoles, that doesn’t tell me that Halo Infinite +1 will release on PS. Or Gears 6 will, etc.

I guess it’s a matter of how one looks at it, but a game that didn’t do well and an old GAAS game wanting more players isn’t enough to convince me that Xbox wants to go full third party.

Heck, forget SoT, I’d love for Infinite to release on Switch and PS. Get some more players on it!

I still think all MP games should be multiplatform because not doing so is a handicap that third parties don’t have to deal with. When you’re competing for that GaaS revenue, a game that not everyone in a group can play is at a huge disadvantage. I’m all for Sea of Thieves going over as a result.

If they would have stopped PlayStation support for example, that is one big exclusive that could have moved the needle. It would have sucked for those players to lose that game but it would have been a good move for MS to attract players to Xbox.

Now since they waited too long the retaliation would be too big. Back then it would have been more accepted and people would have moved on.

Forza Horizon 6, Gears 6 and the next Halo should launch on PS then.

I agree, back then Xbox was even very competitive with PS4 in their main markets, although it is possible this decision wouldn’t have worked I do think making Minecraft exclusive back then would’ve been great for Xbox’s market share.

I feel like you see the obvious difference between these games and SoT

Why not? The bar then is Microsofts biggest games…anything with 30m+ players are up for grabs. It’s going between Bethesda Single Player budget games with single digit millions players popularity to Xbox Game Studios GAAS with 10s of millions of players.

Literally everything in between is the Xbox lineup.

The more you send hints like that, the more time this occupies in the gaming news sphere, the more negativity towards Xbox consoles because it created uncertainty and now everything could potentially release elsewhere as the messaging keeps changing, and people won’t feel confident in your product and will jump ship towards the console maker that has made it quite clear for them they won’t release their stuff on other consoles and will even pay to keep stuff away from the competitor.

It will be a “safe” machine with not much extra gimmicks and will launch with either New 3D Mario or Mario Kart 9 and will have Animal Crossing, Zelda, Pokemon down the line. At the very least, easy 80M+.

Nintendo also has had strings of success with their handhelds which the Switch line inherited.

the 3ds sold half of the ds’s lifetime numbers. It’s not always a slam dunk.

You’re making massive leaps with zero logic behind them over and over.

Bruh, a game getting a port to another platform six years after release isn’t the same as releasing Gears 6 on Playstation.

I don’t get the need to always go to the worst case scenario. We can at least wait for some official communication before going there lol.

No worries. Comments are moving fast and there’s lots of slightly differing things being said.

What I think the crux of a lot of the arguments being made is:

  1. GAAS games at least make sense financially (even if I disagree with a game like SoT).
  2. Hi-Fi Rush, the first critically acclaimed new IP from Xbox since maybe Ori, getting ported to other consoles doesn’t make a ton of sense since it is unlikely to lead to a significant boom in sales.
  3. If they’re going to port single player games to other consoles, it’s a slippery slope that could see more and more games being ported. This is where communication would be key, but Xbox communication and PR is intentionally vague at best and pretty terrible at worst.
  4. Xbox has hardly/hasn’t even started to see things play out after acquiring Bethesda, let alone ABK, so it seems premature to start increasing their multiplat portfolio
