That Insomniac Leaks spoiler filled discussion

Is it? The most expensive film of 2023 was Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and it cost $295 million.

This in line with the biggest Avengers movie, right.

The Marvels is only 270M$ budget (which ranked 4 as a marvel movie)

they are good at recyclying the same content. But sometime they will have to bring something new to the table.

The important part of the ‘market’ for Sony is how many people are ready to put $80 down for a game day one. And you’re right, $100 is coming at this rate. Why? Because companies need to make more money out of their existing customer base.

The movie industry is much more linear to read, i.e. it’s about the ticket price or streaming sub, that’s it. Gaming meanwhile requires hardware investment + the cost of games. And the time sink as well.

I remember an older quote from Jim Ryan who said he wanted hundreds of millions of people to play God of War. Well guess what? They don’t exist! Certainly not behind the current paywall of entry. You’re just not going to get hundreds of millions of people splurging $500 on a console + $80 on a video game.

It’s not happening. Mobile & pc is almost a different market entirely, as are GAAS players (who really only play one game). The point is companies are only fooling themselves if they interpret anyone who has once played a video game (via any device on any platform) as potential customers for the expensive toys like a day one AAA Sony game on a PS5. No way.

There’s an enthusiast hardcore crowd (on all platforms), a casual looter shooter/sports fan crowd… & then there’s the ultra casuals who just buy a console which collects dust after a few play sessions.

That’s the ‘gaming market’.

The Last of US and Horizon Forbidden West cost around $220m for reference.

It is interesting to link Sony AAA userbase (a few millions) to the 10s of millions that play Xbox games through gamepass.

Grounded is played by 15 millions and made by 15 people, this is the kind of information relevant to Sony stakeholders when they compare to Sony portfolio

I guess Xmen is the multiplayer project they’re working on and not the rumored spiderverse project (which i guess that rumor was complete bogus lol). It does suck to see any studio have to deal with such a substantial leak like this. Certainly seems like sony’s biggest leak they’ve ever had to deal with. Crazy stuff!

Edit: Nevermind just saw that slide talking about multiplayer, seems they want to add multiplayer (modes?) to all their games but develop each of them as single player first!

Thats more than i would have expected. Explains why licensed games are often shallow - there is no budget left for a game. Even more props to Insomniac for delivering a good game with Spider-Man.

But these spiraling dev costs are not sustainable. Didn’t we learn just months ago how Sony dev costs are 200 Mio+ and now we are already at 300 Mio+? Is Scott Steiner the CFO of Playstation?

That’s a really bad leak…

Xbox’s leak was really bad but leaking your whole list of planned releases is cruel. You can’t change that easily and now people are commenting and waiting for these games to come out without the hype generated by it being a surprise.

I feel bad for the devs. And the other leaks about Sony’s strategy are worrying. ABK is hitting hard as expected.

The discourse online will be awful for a long time.

this is only a studio releases though. sony have a lot more but what is sad is that insomniac is basically a marvel studio. Thats really boring.

The Verge article suggests that that the leak also contains a significant chunk of Wolverine which is playable on dev kits, therefore footage will also likely release in the coming days/hours.

I’m getting road rash vibes from one of the video leaks :sunglasses:.

Out of everything that has leaked I actually found the “Internal Sony Document on Industry” the most interesting takeaway. https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/s/dqpeBAdsb4

Lol. They pretty much reused SM 2018s assets for the most part as well. What a waste.

Looks like I’m spot on about Sony’s enemy: economic. They have a lot to lose than ever before. They’re practically saying we have Square sale expectation without saying Square sale expectation. This is why you need a backup and that backup would be in their case a live service. Microsoft stole them.

Are you talking about Call of Duty in this context?

That and others in general. Starfield would have sold great on PS, but that’s not happening. In the future, we will have Doom, Blizzard new title, and more. All of those bank generator is gone. When it comes to multiplatform, they’re only helping Microsoft. It was bad enough with Minecraft, now they’re doing with OW2, Diablo IV, and CoD. That has to sting.

Sucks for Insomniac to have all that leaked. Also, it was a safe assumption, but it also confirms Sunset Overdrive is dead now.

Also confirmed it’s a Marvel box.

It’s why day and date for PC is inevitable. But I have little sympathy for Sony, they cultivated their fanbase to expect the best in everything.

Many were thinking 2025, or even 2024 for Wolverine, but that always seemed like hopium/copium. Venom will be a glorified expansion like Miles Morales. Sucks that they have gotten the X-Men license, because they’ll make it a single player game like always when that franchise should be a coop experience like the old Legends games.
