Just own up to your double-standard, apologize, say you’ve learned from this and will be better in the future.
But no, they clearly wanna leave the door open to discuss other leaks in the future. Cause we all see where this is going. Those leaks will be different. Those leaks won’t be as damaging as these leaks. It’s okay to cover those leaks.
I’m glad they’re being roasted in the replies. I scrolled pretty far, and didn’t see anyone speaking up in their defense. Good.
they said a whole lot of nothing for 7 minutes right there. This was an awful response, and it does seem weird for Greg to send the other cast members to explain this and not himself.
Now see, this one can be “wormed out” of, with the justification of “Xbox leaked it themselves accidentally”, because their position is that “Insomniac’s data was stolen and had personal data so we refuse to cover it.”
But literally -what- is the justification behind “Capcom wasn’t as damaging”. Because they aren’t buddies with them? Because that line really feels like just silently saying “They’re over on the other side of the world, who gives a shit?”
Yup, when Spider Man 2 needs to sell 7 million copies to break even and after 10 million copies “just” make a profit of $75M you know something is very wrong.
People can say what they want about how bad Xbox’s current situation is but PS future prospect are not looking good either. Now we can understand why they are pursuing GAAS so aggressively, it is not out of greed but necessity and judging by how their saving card, Bungie, is massively fumbling and Factions is dead, well…it paints a grim image for their future generations.
This leaks also disproves every future “insider” who says SONY is “course correcting” their GAAS initiative.
Note: MVG didn’t want to cover it as well but on his first post, he said he is done doing covering on leaks as he feels it’s wrong these days. Now, he has to hold on to that, but I’ll give him a benefit of doubt. That said this post was deserved.
The idea of saying Capcom wasn’t as bad has to be streaming career suicide. You literally had one job and you managed to blew it. What Sony going to do? Pull Sea of Stars move after that YouTuber screwed up big time?
Jim Ryan did say that their customer base isn’t enough, it’s almost like sometimes these execs say the inside things outside with a little context missing. I think they’re all gonna have to be multiplatform especially Sony if they want to make 300M AAA bangers.
Microsoft is smart for buying a known loved 3rd party publisher with big GaaS games, they get their multiplatform GaaS sweetheart without having to anger their existing userbase by putting something like Halo everywhere, honestly it is a move Sony would do to not upset their fanbase lol so Microsoft seems to be learning.
The more time that goes past the more and more sense it makes why MS went after ABK and shows how much of a smart play it was and why Sony was and is truly shitting themselves.
It’s somewhat different but imagine if journalist didn’t do their jobs about reporting the shenanigans at ABK? We would still have the messy leadership getting away with awful things . However, journalist reporting all of the nonsense happening there lead to key players involved with acts out of the company . I feel behaviours wouldn’t change for most companies if it doesn’t get exposed .
Anyways, outside of gaming leaks and investigations get reported all of the time and it’s needed to keep corporations in check . The main thing that needs to get investigated is how did the breach happen and how is Sony /insomniac going to prevent this in the future . As a consumer it makes me question how they’re handling our private information.
My company almost exclusively outside only a handful of people are all wfh (like less then 10% go to the offices)
We have seen so many new ways for hackers to try and breach systems. And example of this we had someone call our personal mobile phones pretending to be our it (knowing our it guys names so if we looked them up in our database it seemed legit) knowing full system details and how our logins security worked to try and just get an access code to get customer database access.
And it only takes one person to respond to an email, text or even click a link and boom access given.
The best security in the world can always be bypassed by human error. Why I feel bad for insomic employees but the leaked documents that are released should be looked over by people that report the news not just gloss over it
Def giving MVG the benefit here because a) he isn’t in the news business b) his post was “I’m not touching it” not “I’m not touching it because I disagree with touching it” and c) his justification for not doing so now holds more weight considerably as he didn’t just discuss another leak 24hours before.
The gap in journos and influencers is staggering. Absolutely staggering. You can bemoan and criticise the way the information was obtained, but it is your job to tell people the news, and if the client and access journalism of the industry affects the way we have critical reporting presented to us then what else do they know that they aren’t talking about for fear of loss of access? Work conditions? Abuse? Financial improperity?
I do feel for the Devs and I’ve avoided clicking on threads that show gameplay of wolverine because it’s a game I’m looking forward to but the data, contracts and and internal workings at insomniac/playstation has been hugely informative and a glimpse into something we’ve never seen from the playstation side.
The fear of the effects of the ABK deal and the possible revenue loss was quite eye opening. A possible $1.5bn loss of revenue would be detrimental to the overall business. Plus those Disney contracts were so informative, they’re probably taking something like $200m from Sony for those mainline games. When you add the $300m+ development costs the $100m+ they spend on marketing the games, I can see why Sony are looking for deep cuts not just at insomniac but throughout the playstation division. That also plays into the profit issues the financials are showing, they’re seriously worried that if they don’t get costs under control they could actually have quarters where they announce a loss something the market and the fanboys won’t handle well.
Final thing is that I haven’t really seen talked about is insomniac has canceled their GaaS, Naughty Dog have cancelled their’s and the whole story about deviation games having a large amount of the staff leaving. That’s three games basically canceled out of the six live service games that supposedly were put on the ‘back burner’. It won’t be reported but there’s plenty of things happening at Sony that represent a company that internally isn’t in the healthy state that they try and project.
Edit: the other thing I completely forgot about was the sales data. Although the games have healthy sales numbers I was suprised by the high numbers for physical sales. It’s like 60% for playstation games which leads to a huge amount of discussion. Does that prove that all the data about physical sales is pretty pointless as many have said? Is it because physical games get heavily discounted plus Sony specializes on single player games so those games get played then sold second hand?
There’s so much data that has been leaked and due to a lack of good coverage on the business side of gaming, I doubt we get good analysis of some of what has been leaked.
