The worst timeline continues.
I think regardless who buys Ubisoft this is going to end up with a lot of people out of work.
Hopefully not Microsoft.
As for their games, I think the games Ubisoft makes are fun, but I generally don’t buy them right away because I’m always playing something at that time.
European studios have stronger protections against layoffs than American companies, right? Would that make it difficult for a new owner to start slashing Ubisoft employees?
Microsoft probably wouldn’t be allowed to buy Ubisoft anyway, I’m sure the CMA would block
They’re like pre-acquisition Activision. They have a lot of good properties/IPs but in this case, they either ignore it or going in a wrong angle like how they almost release Ghost Recon live service, or keep shifting identity for Watch Dogs.
Hopefully.
Also the constant use of others IPs, instead of focusing on their own.
Exactly. I believe they can be good again, but management needs to change as well as the leader.
Definitely hoping this doesn’t happen. Ubisoft just needs to ride it all out. They’ve gone through this before (see AC Unity) and have always bounced back. If anything, this is their once a decade disaster period. lol
I really hope there is no truth to this, Ubisoft will always hold a special place in my youth and overall gaming experience.
The last I remember Tencent were unable to force a takeover: https://x.com/DeekeTweak/status/1842243286733398382?t=dakR5h_vqGv0goD88fxddg&s=19
Hopefully they can go private instead.
I wonder if Ubisoft or a buyer might consider selling off some ip like Watchdogs if they think it might bring in more separately.
It wouldn’t be a hostile takeover in this scenario
I know gaming industry as a whole has problems and many varies, but I don’t think they’re in danger. Even with Square, though they were getting close before they kicked out the old CEO. The current is cleaning house now and so far, it looks promising. That all said Ubisoft is one that really feels like it’s in danger of at least in orange.
Yeah, thought of that one after I posted. It’s not like they’ve figured out what to do with it lately.
Okay, I’m going to level with ya. I didn’t know the company is family owned company alas old WWE. I guess being sold will do wonder; sure does for WWE. But really, if they know how to do fix things rather than sell them.
I’m pretty sure this is not what Microsoft had in mind when the CMA forced them to sell the Activision/Blizzard cloud gaming rights.
Microsoft chose Ubisoft because they’re a European based company but now all of a sudden a Chinese company (Tencent) would own those rights?
Just a weird scenario all around.
It would have been better if Xbox had bought Ubisoft instead of Activision
lol
From a business perspective ABK obviously is still the better buy as it’s making them a tonne of money.
Ubisoft unfortunately is not in the same boat that way, however more of their games do interest me than the current ABK games. I really enjoy Assassin’s Creed, FarCry, Rainbow Six/Division, Immortals and my kids love Just-Dance.
If ABK can get back to the old days with Prototype, Vigilante 8, Spider-Man, Transformers, Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero etc then they would definitely appeal to me more than just a CoD factory.
I said at the time that I would have personally preferred Ubisoft and that’s when they were $5-7B instead of the sub $2B today.
