Tales of Arise is upon us. Reviews are out

Yeah, with Tales games outside Vesperia and its remaster it’s always been a nogo for Xbox, so it’s good enough. I think the main reason is the shift to Unreal and common development between platforms, which is also the reason for no Switch, UE open space/world games on that console run like crap.

Yeah. Doesn’t XC2 run like dogshit on the switch? Or maybe I’m misremembering

But perhaps that’s an in house engine

XC2? Anyway it’s a memory issue, 4GB RAM is not enough for many games developed for 8th gen consoles which have 8GB RAM, it’s for this reason 7th gen open worlds are the only ones which run good on Switch. UE then only adds more complication, because it’s worse than many other engines for open worlds.

Xenoblade chronicles 2 I mean

And yeah the memory is a massive issue which is why I’m worried Nintendo is still not doing the Pro revision, third party games (including some first party like Pokémon) will get increasingly worse looking as time passes. I’m talking 480p type beat.

Xenoblade runs on an custom engine

Yeah I figured, does it run well enough tho?

I cannot see open world games for Switch in the future, the requirements will only go up, not down and when 8th gen consoles will be phased out for the more demanding games (we are already seeing Xbox phasing out X1 for its big games, Avatar game is next gen only, etc…), Switch will be completely out of the picture. A Switch Pro with 8GB RAM can be cool, but Nintendo would charge 500$ for that, lol.

The engine can scale dramatically and create massive worlds. Problem is the switch. Also Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was done by only 40 people. The next Xenoblade will probably a much bigger project and therefore more fine tuned.

In general I have a feeling we will see Xenoblade Chronicles 3 very soon and the launch next year.

Anyways I played Tales for a couple hours now and I’m still not used to the combat.

It is kinda like Xenoblade and you can break enemies but it doesn’t has an indicator when it happens. Basically all I do is spamming my arts and hoping to do well and evading attacks of cause.

This could be put on a plaque and hung at this point tbh lol, it’s become that clear and true.

I’m worried for BOTW2. Not because it won’t be a masterpiece of a game but it will look handicapped and run poorly.

Tales isn’t about breaking enemies. And you have to use weakness attacks. Tales is more combo based. Xeno is literally just getting breaking Armour and finding the ways to do it.

Tales is more of an action game. Its straight up combat driven whereas xenoblade is less button triggers and more selecting attacks.

The DE does. But let’s be real. Switch can only do so much. Xenobkade 2 looks fine in docked mode. It looks like a gba game in handheld mode.

The new tales is different

I need some advice how do you guys deal with the combat?

Got £10 credit, still wondering if I should pull the trigger on this game…

You should

And the new Zealand trick works. Looks like it was an issue with yhr UE and deluxe editions of the game. Game loads up now for those who bought UE or deluxe.

Just take your time, don’t spam the buttons, learn to dodge & parry and attack at the right time and chain combos. Look at the enemy’s pattern to see the perfect timing.

If your just mash the buttons without knowing what you do you might not enjoy it on the long term. It’s my personal take.

Also to focus on what your character is doing and not everyone else. Once you best an enemy then you can see what’s going on and what other enemy you want to tackle. This game can be tricky for newcomers for sure

EDIT: I’m about 3 hours in. Loving the game so far and already I’m enjoying this way more than Nexus
