Starfield posted a blog today that you can find HERE. It contains a plethora of stats for the game’s player base and includes the following planned updates for 2024:

  • City maps
  • The first story expansion, Shattered Space
  • Official mod support
  • New gameplay options to adjust the difficulty
  • New customization options for ships
  • New ways to travel

Those are the major takeaways for what’s coming, below are their images for how people played

Finally we have their text saying so long to 2023:

But we’re not just here to say goodbye to 2023. We’ve been hard at work on everything coming to Starfield in 2024. While we’re not ready to go into all the details just yet, here’s a glimpse at some of the things we’re cooking up.

First, we’re targeting updates roughly every six weeks starting in February. These updates will include everything from quality-of-life improvements to content and feature updates. Join our Steam Beta branch to be the first to try these updates as they begin rolling out.

We’ve been reading all your feedback and are excited to start launching these new features. We’ll be adding new ways to travel and you’ll now be able to access city maps while exploring the major cities. For those of you who love ship building, we’ll also be expanding on ship customization with ship decorations, new ship building options, and more.

We’re also excited to be adding all new Gameplay options. With these new settings you’ll be able to alter your gameplay to allow for an easier or more challenging experience that will expand beyond our normal “Difficulty” setting. These will allow you to easily customize carry capacity, cargo access distance, ship damage, vendor credits, how you suffer afflictions, new survival mechanics, and more.

Next, official mod support will be coming to Starfield with the launch of Creations. Beginning early next year, Starfield will be getting its own exporter and you’ll have access to a new Creation Kit. Modding has always been an enormous part of our games, with incredible community-made content constantly bringing fresh new experiences. With the scale and systems in Starfield, we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

And lastly, the team is hard at work on the development of Shattered Space, our first major expansion coming next year. You’ll have new story content, new locations, new gear, and much more. We can’t wait to share more with you next year.

Thank you so much for all the amazing feedback and please keep it coming. We do read it all, and it guides us in what you really want to see in the game going forward. For the latest on Starfield, make sure to join Constellation and get exclusive access to our Constellation Discord.

Thanks again for making 2023 an unbelievable year for all of us. May you have a great rest of the year and we’ll see you in 2024. For all, into the Starfield.

13 million players is great, no matter what and we are still in the first quarter of the life of the game.

Some roadmap 10 million after 3 weeks 11 million on Oct 25th (one month later) 12 million by Dec 3th (5 weeks later) 13 million by Dec 20th

So more or less, one new million every month

The game is a flop, isn’t it ?

See you next year at 25 million

This sucks for me. My plan was to play Starfield starting on January 5th when my 17 day vacation starts but seeing all the stuff that will be added in regards to city maps, new ways to travel, carrying capacity, vendor credits and more has me thinking if I should wait.

On one hand, I want to but on the other hand, could turn into a Cyberpunk situation where three years later, I still haven’t played and completed the game. lol

Decision, decisions. lol

In general though, this is fantastic and excellent news. Very hyped!!

After some of the technical analysis I seen, I really find it hard to see. It’s not about optimization, the game is so heavy on compute, no amount of graphics and memory optimization is gonna help significantly. They could make the game look like dogshit and at 720p on SX and it still wouldn’t be smooth 60.

I find the 40 hour per player avg stat actually really good especially for a Game Pass title

I expect a very large amount of players, especially GP players to start a game and barely touch it or drop it quickly so the average being 40 would suggest that those that play Starfield, really play Starfield lol

Felt this was pretty obvious with how high the game was tracking on the most played weeks and month after release.

So by some cross-verification, Starfield is already the second most player single player Bethesda game (after Skyrim, of course) , after less than 4 months

40 hours average playtime isn’t good. It’s absolutely insane. I doubt there is any game beyond BG3 this year that comes even close to that level of engagement. What a massive win for Microsoft and Bethesda.

Moving on up.

for consoles? that’s very unlikely to happen. Digital Foudnry used the Series X motherboard set up to run the game and found that whilst interiors could hit 60fps, exteriors did not work at all.

Those motherboards aren’t set up to run like the console does though, I remember they had done some testing previously and found that it didn’t perform to the expected results.

I’m not saying Bethesda will add a 60fos mode, but any testing they do with it would be flawed.

you’ll get unlocked fps mods I"m sure

I don’t understand the addition of a map in cities, for me it’s one of the great strengths of Starfield to have to read signs and follow arrows like in Morrowind and it’s a philosophy that Microsoft seems to like a lot in their Open Worlds like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Minecraft or Starfield which do not have maps. It’s a design choice so as not to take the player by the hand. I’m tired of these games which indicate everything.

give me more Open Worlds like that (I imagine Everwild won’t have mini maps)

It’s an option.

Surprised to see Beowulf be the most popular gun. Give me an Orion or AA-99 any day over a Beowulf.

Overall good stuff, looking forward to the updates. I think my favourite part is the changes to ship customization, that’ll be great.

Starfield was my most played game of the year in hours, and I can’t wait to jump in again with all of the updates next year.

Genuinely don’t know what the Beowulf is. As soon as I got access to the Big Bang the game was easy! So overpowered. Same with the Disrupter Novalight
