Starfield |OT| You're Finally Awake... In Space!

I will do combat in first and exploring in third :ok_hand:

Yes. Except maybe for when going indoors where there might be narrow areas and stuff. I hope they have all the camera options available we’ve always had, being able to zoom in super close or far away from our character. Always loved this.

I think binoculars will be part of the helmet and it’s upgrade systems

We may also have microscopes

But that sounds more like a first person thing, to zoom in on stuff in the distance, which is very cool too. Hoping these helmets come equipped with a flashlight too. I’m a sucker for manual flashlight usage (Fallout 3,4)opposed to automatic (RE4R). I expect we will be accessing plenty of dark areas such as caves and what not.

As for framerate, I hope so much that it will be as smooth as possible, RDR2 smooth ideally, but very few games seem to have it that smooth. I wonder what causes it to be that smooth. It likely will be similar to their previous games in 30fps. Kinda want to try it out, but I don’t think there is a way anymore to play Skyrim, Fallout 3 or 4 in 30fps unless you have the 360 disc?

Guess there’s always 76 to just get a feel for it.

If it’s motion blur is as good as FH5… I will simply shut my mouth.

I should try that sometime. I made the ā€œmistakeā€ of playing that game for the first time in performance mode. Anything else after that just felt jarring.

Starfield would get killed by an unstable 60FPS mode I think, Fromsoft games have been technically bad forever now and almost nobody cares, don’t think I’ve seen a single reviewer called it out, I just know Starfield wouldn’t get the same treatment as anything FromSoft unless it’s so amazing it makes everyone ignore it’s flaws, like Skyrim did for example but that was a different time, even a Skyrim level game would get crucified in certain areas today if it’s Xbox exclusive and no this isn’t a persecution complex, this is just the reality.

But yes, if Starfield launches with a 55-60FPS mode at a reasonable resolution to me (1440P) I’ll play it on performance mode but tbh in Hogwarts I’m playing at 30FPS and it’s fine, 30FPS is fine to me in slower paced games especially when the visual fidelity is so much better.

I think if they can run the game at 50+ fps they should offer a 30fps mode and an uncapped mode for people that have VRR TVs (and also so future pro consoles or BC on next gen get 60fps+ without a patch).

Yeah, I think Starfield and all Xbox first party games will get true 4K and 60FPS on the eventual Pro console, I think that console is 100% happening in the next 2 years.

I mean, sure, some of the locations we’ve seen could do with some more colours or perhaps it’s the lighting, but this here is just…lol.

Yeah that’s just… bad journalism. When aesthetics are the target of hit pieces, there’s something wrong with the intent of the writer.

But sure I’ll indulge for a minute & assume it was written ā€˜in good faith’, i.e. by & large the gaming industry has jumped from the brown yellow hues of the PS360 generation to an unfortunate polar opposite garishness in current games without seeing there’s a middle ground in there.

And in many cases when garish over saturated colors are paired with high dynamic range, my eyes hurt. Horizon, Outer Worlds etc. are garish. I prefer the look of Fallout 3 tbh over lots of modern games in terms of color palette. So to me, Starfield looks good.

The same gamerant that produced an article stating elder scrolls 6 as an upcoming playstation game despite what Phil said

In these dark times, Starfield twitter page reminds us what’s coming for us

We’ve already seen planets that are super colourful with big beasts like Avatar which makes this statement really weird

Anything for clicks

This game can’t come soon enough. We need some good stuff.

We really do. It’s been a shit day for Xbox news, honestly hasn’t been the best of weeks for Xbox in general, meaning the Redfall news and all that.

Starfield will undoubtedly impress in June, let’s just get to that. Thankfully it’s not super long of a wait anymore for that.

The more I think about it and what Phil was saying in that interview, the more I think he was a bit too pessimistic. Starfield will move the needle. It is possibly the game of the generation (yeah, I know it’s a bit early to say that) and it will make Xbox the console you need to play that one game which everyone will be playing in september, just like more people will buy a swicth to play the new Zelda or buying a PS5 to play Spider-man 2.

It is the kind of exclusive that Xbox deperately needs. It will be the new exciting game we will all play. I’m just hoping for a smooth launch.

I think this will be the big one. I keep thinking of what playtesters have said about the game. Yep, it was still hearsay via insiders, but the insiders are reputable ones. I think Todd and his team have something special here and while I did still have some doubts about that September release, I’m starting to believe it’s really finally happening. In this industry you just never know though, look at Cyberpunk. Was announced gold of all things, still delayed.

It’s a good thing that next month we’ll also hear what framerate we can expect, I’ve been expecting 30fps for a long time now and I’m OK with it too. But undoubtedly it’s gonna cause a lot of ruckus by the usual suspects on Twitter, CrazyEra (RE and IE) but meh, who cares at the end of the day.

It will move the needle a little bit on console. Probably won’t notice it at all though. BGS games are way more PC centric, and has it roots in PC gaming community. My guess is overall playerbase for Starfield will be 70-80 percent on PC. Should not matter though sense Xbox and PC are more like 1 in the same now thanks to Microsoft eco system and making Xbox and PC game day and date.
