Guess Starfield never stood a chance with this guy.

Okay. I mentioned a few days ago that I restarted my playthrough. Well, I restarted it again and am finally getting going with the game.

For my current playthrough, I went with Combat Medic as my background while Dream Home, Kid Stuff and Wanted are my traits. Really enjoying this setup thus far.

Anyway, I have put in around 18 hours in two days including an almost 12 hour run today that ended an hour or so ago. I’m going to HIDE the following because holy shit, what a fucking quest and all the stuff that happens afterwards in what is basically one extremely long stretch of gameplay. All I will say is that the quest is called Groundpounder so if you haven’t done this quest yet, DON’T click on summary. lol

Summary

Okay. I was trying to do a mission where I had to deliver mail and cargo which failed and I don’t know why. Anyway, as I going to another planet, I get a distress call which I accepted and offered to help out. This is the Groundpounder quest. I get to the Altair II planet and am on a freezing planet that’s night time and im in a blizzard. Yay!! I get attacked by the Spacers and take care of them and after looting as much as possible, I look to go inside the building but wait, I can’t because I have frostbite due to the weather. So I go back to the Frontier as I have all those treatments in the little safe box and heal myself. I go through the entire building and along the way, I pick up every item (and yes, im doing this all the time unless it says “steal” instead of “take” which in that case, I don’t pick up.

I then have to go to the research camp. Eliminate the enemies, save the two people that were there and go back to Altair II. There, they tell me that there’s Space Invaders in orbit and I have to get in my ship and take them out. There’s two sets to this. One set at Altair V and one set at Altair I. I forgot which I did first but it was the more difficult battle as I was level 7 and the ships were higher than me. I survived and won the battle. Went to the second set and took them out pretty easily as they were only level 4.

SIDE NOTE: Since I have gotten a lot better in ship combat, im loving it. It’s fucking awesome!!! I haven’t upgraded or unlocked any of the skills connected to the Frontier yet either.

Anyway, I go back to Altair II, take out the remaining ground enemies and complete the mission. But this entire “run” wasn’t done yet. I leave the planet and get greeted by three enemy ships around level 14 or so. These are bounty hunters (I have the “wanted” trait) looking to get their reward based on killing me.

I had the option to offer 5000 credits to let me live but said fuck it and attacked them instead. This was a tough 10 minute battle where I used all 5+ of my ship parts to repair my ship but survived and won. Okay, so this part is done and I now decided to go back to New Atlantis and start the second main story mission but I forgot one small detail - remember how I said that I picked up all those items earlier? Well, I picked up Organs which is Contraband and forgot about it. I get detected and im like, I’ll just accept the fine and continue but nope, I get greeted by the UC Commander (forgot his name) while im sitting in a box with a glass window. He’s talking to me and wants me to basically go undercover and infiltrate the Crimson Fleet and basically gather/steal evidence against them. I agreed and flew to I believe it’s Mars, I think. But anyway, that’s where I quit and saved my game. Will continue it tomorrow. And by the way, my mass has been over the limit this ENTIRE time and is currently 900+. lmao

SIDE NOTE: Combined with the 26+ hours I originally before starting over and once all of this happened, I can safely say that Starfield is my 2023 game of the year and no Sony or Ubisoft game is going to change that and even more than that, God of War Ragnarok which was my 2022 game of the year and #1 game of the generation but as of now, it’s #2 because Starfield is insanely fucking awesome!!! Like, holy fucking shit!!! I am loving the missions and even the activities are solid thus far. Despite only having 18 or so hours into the game on my restarted playthrough, to have the mission I had with a few other things thrown in for good measure, I can’t see any other game this generation surpassing Starfield for me!!! Even just messing around the other day before starting my current playthrough, I played a few hours, watched AEW Collision and instead of going to sleep at 1am, I played Starfield for over 3 hours to around 4:30am which I haven’t done since 2019’s The Division 2 and before that The Witcher 3 which was my PS4/XBO game of the generation.

What makes this all even more amazing is that like The Witcher 3, this is the first game that im truly playing from the development studio in Bethesda Game Studios. New IP. First time ever truly playing and being invested in a BGS game to where when im not playing Starfield, I want to be playing Starfield which in all honesty, rarely happens for me. At almost 1:30am, im tempted to go back and play another few hours but let me give the Xbox Series X console a break. lol

Starfield is truly an amazing generation defining game and now, that’s it all finally clicking for me, oh man!!! I can easily see my most hours played which was 300+ in just the base game for The Witcher 3 being blown away by the time I truly complete this game. :joy: :joy: :joy:

Got to say it’s nice having followers/companions that don’t act like spoiled schizophrenic children in life or death situations compared to another the ones in another recent big rpg.

The stealth in starfield is not good. Not good at all. But it has nothing to do with vents.

This dude here is straight up just trying to compare an immersive sim to a giant space RPG. I mean…what? It is at this stage beyond disingenuous.

This is literally like those uniformed comparisons that UNINFORMED gamers make who think game development is a process of drag and drop, it is no different than the ones who say "why Bethesda not switch to Id Tech it’s literally a much better engine!

Except this one is not an uninformed gamer, he’s someone who’s responsible for reviews for the biggest gaming website.

similarly, you could ask “why does dishonored not have extensive RPG elements” but that’s idiotic, because we know.

i think it’s right to criticise a game for being a jack of all trades, master of none - like starfield being crap at stealth is worth being called out, for you can make it better - but saying “but they have a whole team that does stealth games, why didn’t they help” is so silly.

I haven’t actually looked at stealth much. How different does it work?

It doesn’t really tell you. It doesn’t really have a system. In theory its based on staying in shadows and not making noise but in practice you can unlock kit in the game that basically means you are in stealth if you kneel down and don’t move or move very little and avoid line of sight.

Its a pretty poor implementation to be honest compared to say Cyberpunk that did it much better. You could stealth through entire warehouses in Cyberpunk with the odd strategic silenced takedown. In Starfield that’s much more difficult and virtually impossible to predict - you check everything take someone down in hidden state get the stealth bonus then bam - you are detected for little apparent reason.

Love this game! . It’s like playing your very own Total Recall memory implant. The only bad part of the whole game are it’s constant loading screens.

Funny that the guy who didn’t know that you had to put points into Stealth in order to use it bitches about stealth in the game. Why are we taking this clown seriously again?

Oh boy… and this clown is allowed to review games :grimacing:

I think 95% of the books are useless. If you want to learn about the lore, it’s better to play the main quest, faction quests or companion quests. Even minor NPC quests. The museums in the game helps with it as well.

Gray vents 4/10 -IGN

One skill to unlock stealth, then you have a text status to show which stealth state you are in and a coloured bar to show detection status. Then there is another skill concealment that makes using stealth more effective.

I’ve never used it (outside of using vents) as I hate stealth gameplay.

Maybe Dan is just upset that there is no futurama style shrink ray he can use in the game so he can stealth like a magic rat.
