Starfield |OT| You're Finally Awake... In Space!

Maybe holiday 22. But lets be real Covid could easily push it further out. It seems like it was never a 2020 game and I never expected it to be.

At this point people just need to STFU and wait for an announcement, all these insiders stepping all over each other is getting ridiculous

If all of the discussion I’m seeing around this game tells us anything it’s that there is a ton of HYPE. With Halo Infinite coming this fall and a heavily rumored Forza Horizon 5, there was never any need to get this game out of the door in a rush anyway.

Supply is nowhere close to meeting demand and it now looks like we’ll be facing shortages into spring of next year. MS can really market their ecosystem around Master Chief this holiday and Starfield next year when we have more consoles in the pipeline.

Seeing a lot of negative takes around the web (not here). My question is how do you delay a game that was never given a release date in the first place? We’ve only seen an official teaser so far. Take all the time you need BGS. I want this to be great.

I just want the game to be good, tight and stable/polished tbh. If it’s next gen only and pushes the hardware, even better. If it’s Fall 2022, so be it. Plenty of games to play in the meantime.

Xbox needs to start pumping out a couple big highly rated games, that’s the only thing they’re missing right now. And I believe that’s a giant one (hopefully).

…if you just read the thread, I explain it. And the full scope of why MS felt it so important the game lands in 2021 is not known to us on the outside. Ask them.

Zero ppl have ever suggested they should release a game prematurely. Again, you totally confusing two different contexts that, had ya just read things first, you’d see I was distinguishing.

I think a lot of that is insiders guessing and not explicitly saying they are guessing. Or maybe to be more to them, they aren’t claiming to be passing insider info on from sources but due to their track records everyone treats their speculation as if it were facts from their sources. Grubb has been contributing to that lately, unfortunately.

There is a big difference between insiders citing sourced info that is passed to them and insiders looking for attention and throwing around their personal speculation as fact. There has been a lot of the latter lately, especially wrt Starfield. My view is these insiders don’t actually have solid sourcing on the subject of release plans and are all speculating. I’d say the concrete info that can be trusted atm is the ad buys. Doesn’t mean it has to ship this year tho (they might do big marketing push this holiday for it even before game ships).

No need to even discuss this considering it’s all based on speculation and not fact. Hopefully we’ll get more clarity in a few weeks.

No problem, there are other journalists with sources coming out of the woodwork confirming said reality of Starfield not making 2021.

As a result, I have fewer and fewer reasons to be confident in said thing happening. That’s it.

I won’t talk about it nor break my head over this game anymore till E3 when we’ll most likely get the release window for it.

I can’t believe Starfield is launching on the Infinium Phantom.

Ah, I hadn’t seen Liana’s comment. Since she is citing actual sources that lends more credence to her statements than what Schreier or Grubb claim as they don’t seem to cite sources on this specific area. She also doesn’t seem to say much about release plans herself tho.

I respect her attitude so much. These many tiny bits of insider info here and there are getting tiresome, to be honest.

Let’s just assume Starfield is late 2022

I don’t know what they show at E3 then. It goes against everything they’ve said about showing games.

100% as if tweets weren’t already a horrible way to tell people anything truly important using twitter to tweet some “Game exists” is tiresome and key to me is that most of these “insiders” conflate what the public is interested in with what is in the publics interest.

The public is interested in games, it is not in the public interest to leak “game x is y” in the vast majority of cases.

Only reasons I see them changing their normal cadence of show off game and release in a few months would be either because of pressure from Microsoft or because its a completely new ip and may go in a different direction from the usual fallout/elder scroll formula

Yeah, maybe they think it needs a longer marketing cycle.

ngl, Xbox is gonna continue to have an uphill battle for mindshare for two more years, it’s just true. They’re in a pretty dry spot right now when it comes to first party, Covid fucked up their plan and they invested in studios too goddamn late.

It doesn’t even need to be reasonable, but “wait so its just Halo and Forza… Again?” is gonna keep coming up again and poisoning all discourse around Xbox, it’s gonna be exhausting. And Halo had to be delayed from 2020 for to 2021 for it to be at least that much, otherwise this year is was just gonna be Psychonauts 2 and Forza, the former which doesn’t even need you to be in the xbox ecosystem to play it.

Hope whatever they show of Starfield and Halo at E3 is gonna be fucking mindblowing, not even gonna worry about other games being shown now, those two need to absolutely be received positively, if they aren’t, well let’s just say I’m not prepared to come to this forum for a good week lol.

Late 2022. Forever waiting is my new motto

More likely is they expected it to land in 2021 and that fell apart in recent weeks/months. They have already gotten ppl excited for an E3 showing so not much reason to not have a show (if they didn’t show Starfield they would not bother having a show at all this year). They are kinda in a corner here, but going with a more conventional hype cycle also isn’t gonna hurt the game anyhow. I expect we get a deep dive and story trailer at E3 but they hold some major game elements back for Gamescom/TGA’s perhaps.

This is PRECISELY the point I was making earlier in the thread and ppl got real pissy about it, lol. Still holding out hope for Wolfenstein 3 this year tho. Gotta say the Forza Horizon info from Grubb better be legit or he will get tarred and feathered and rightly so.

But her reply is to Luke with that ridiculous nonsense about the game being pretty much done and coming this year. When Luke said that we already knew by Jeff and others that it was going to be 2022. She doesn’t seem to say anything whether that’s Q1, Q2, Q3 or 4.
