Framerate was really bad during combat. Facial animations need work in a few characters but are really good in others. Not thrilled to see there’s no manual take off mechanic or land-space transition but oh well. Hoping they do well sign posting what planets are worth checking in a given system. Shooting looked really bad. Having challenge systems for ranking up skills is a horrible idea and hopefully they nuke that. It’ll lead to gamers ruining the gameplay for themselves as they optimize the fun outta the game. Devs rly need to learn this lesson already.
Everything else, which is really what is core to the game I think, looked incredible though. Lots of stuff to nitpick but every game has flaws and every BGS game has had plenty of them too. This has a perfect vibe to it though, so if the core experience isn’t too hindered by the small stuff, it’ll be another classic from Todd’s team.
Nitpick: They somehow thought Alpha Centauri was an individual star, lol.
By the way did you guys notice how it seems we are back to the “in your face” conversations? Fallout 4 had this very different, also because the protagonist was voiced and so they had to show him/her. But this was very similar to Skyrim and Fallout 3.
Some guns weren’t causing enemies to react naturally to the gun shots (naturally in the sense of what players expect, not realistically). Some guns had recoil. Lasers didn’t, which is dumb as they should have it.
Well, I guess they will fix. But still fighting felt more dynamics, but also I think due to natural limitation (skill based shooting) it will always feel kinda weird.
Still I cannot wrap my head around the modding possibilities there. Skyrim worlds, Star Wars, Star Trek, Mass Effect etc.
As someone that doesn’t really play FPS games, I don’t really understand the nuance around what makes shooting good or bad in games. So I cannot comment on the shooting concerns raised by a few people.
But I am tremendously exciting for the exploration and story driven world building this game has to offer.
Ship combat is right up my alley and building your own ship is very exciting.
I’m not into base building though, but i do like the idea of building a base to then let the computer build stuff for me. That’s quite cool.
Also, THIRD PERSON MODE!!!Absolutely critical for me. I’m glad that option is there. It just looks so much cooler.
Some have said it’s basically no man’s sky with a story. But actually, that sounds perfect for me. The criticism I have of games like NMS is always “What’s the point of all this?”. Without objectives and an overall story, it’s all just a bit pointless.
8/10 for me, with the potential for more if I get to see more of the actual story and faction type quests.
What I saw of NMS in some video the other day looked really cool, actually reason to go explore it. It sounds like you’ve played it, is it really a world worth exploring or is there tons of building to do first? I am not the biggest builder, give me a world that the studio created, let me experience their story and locations. It’s probably not for me, is it?
I found it quite dull, all told. I just got dropped on a planet, with no real intro or reason behind it. That whole thing of “Go explore!! Do whatever you want!!” Just isn’t for me. I want my adventures curated by better storytellers than myself.
I was afraid of that. But I started wondering about it when I saw the video IGN posted. A comparison video of NMS and Starfield and it seemed like NMS had fun content to explore, like actual stuff done by the team.
Todd last year did say we’ll see the return of deeper RPG systems, things some of their previous games missed out on. I’m guessing there will be quite a few more videos with updates.
It’s exciting to think about how much content there could be here. With the ex dev stating that they actually had an overabundance of content. And the fact that it easily has had a longer development time than any other their previous games.
Do we have a estimate on when actual development began for this? Sometimes you read numbers like 8 years in development, but doubt that’s actual development.
During the map sequence we saw a tag with ‘structure’ on one of the more empty planets, I assume they will point everything interesting out on the map, so you could land next to it. I personally love the fact there seems to be no manual take off and landing. Always find those mechanics to be a massive pain in space/flight simulators.
Personally love the challenge systems since optimizing my character to hell and back is something I love about RPG’s. I’m a massive Munchkin at heart.
As per gunplay. I think it’s an improvement over Fallout 4, but definitely need to see how more of the guns perform. The machine gun in the gameplay trailer seemed like a rail gun, which would explain the more subdued recoil since there is less instantaneous force than traditional firearms. It does make it seem like a peashooter though, especially compared to the shotgun also seen in the trailer.
To be honest the gunplay in cp2077 felt awful to me, simply because there was no consideration for a controller, and the look acceleration and sensitivity felt that it was too high no matter what adjustments I made. It was a pretty good game but the controls where made with PC as the main target and consoles as an after thought.
Talking to my buddy who’s a huge fellow BGS fan. He loved the reveal but he’s concerned about one thing. The framerate. For the sole reason that he believes that (like most E3 games) this was shown from a “NASA” supercomputer and it’s concerning how the performance was quite chugging along.
The video didn’t say captured on XSX, that is true, not like Diablo IV did. And it’s been a long time so maybe I misremember but Skyrim and Fallout 4 gameplay deep dive had smooth framerate. I do think it’s true that most games often play from a PC at their shows unless it’s said otherwise. They almost have a year left to iron it out though. Thoughts on this?
