Starfield: Official Gameplay Reveal - Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022

Well that was literally a broken game :joy: It deserved all the trashing it received

Microsoft needs Cyberpunk 2077 level of marketing for the game. But I think Starfield will also bring a lot of people from the general consumer market.

I mean they’ll do their marketing no doubt and I think the game is in people’s minds and is out there in discourse already. It releases and it’s good, it will get more players directly from GP, word of mouth and hype, it’s gonna have all different aspects of marketing. I don’t think they’ll have any hardship marketing it, they should just ensure it’s as well made as possible.

I saw Todd mentioned you can see sunrises on a planet. So i assume they have implemented real planetary orbits in a solar system?

Probably. At this point Starfield is just too big and the amount of features they have there is unknown. Hell, we did not even see the dialogue system!

I still play Fallout 76 to this day :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But I meant to compare to the more regular Bethesda games. F76 was a first take on the GAAS type of games and they did miss the mark at launch, although it’s now a remarkable game. I have no doubts going back to their roots with Starfieldeans it’s going to be a masterpiece.

I just listened to this bit with Todd, he exactly said ā€œ4 main citiesā€. Now I don’t know about you but I think there’s a distinction there between saying ā€œ4 citiesā€ and ā€œ4 main citiesā€. The way Todd said it implies or at least leaves room for possibly more cities, perhaps he meant only Captial and main story related cities by that. Because yeah 4 cities for a normal game is a good number but for a Starfield you feel like there’s gotta be more. Because even if it’s meant to be only 4 planets have been fully inhabited with civilization and systems, there’s got to be more than one city for each planet lol, I mean I don’t know unless that’s explained other ways in the story and history, or if it’s a better game design choice to make those cities focused and stand out. Who knows, here’s hoping there’s more still.

I don’t think that I have ever seen the level of concern trolling and hatred or just stupid hot takes that I have seen for Starfield, I’ve seen ā€œit looks like a generic No Man’s Skyā€ a lot and I just don’t get it, did these people watch the same trailer I did? yet another reason why a lot of developers don’t like showing extended gameplay anymore and I 100% understand why Todd prefers to wait until as close as possible to launch to do so, also comparing the graphics to games that don’t nearly as much as Starfield and the graphics aren’t even bad! lighting and environments looked very good in the video.

Try this exercise. Rewind to about 18 months ago when Microsoft and Bethesda announced the acquisition, swap that news with Sony money hatting Starfield, fast forward to the gameplay reveal now during a State of Play. View Starfield through this lens and the game in its current state will seem pretty fuckin spectacular to the majority of the gaming press, forum posters and twitter trolls. There. Problem solved.

I know that for some reason people feel compelled to share the disingenuous takes about this game from other places, so it’s going to be a rough 11 months having to read that stuff even here.

I mean people always want more content. I feel this game will have more content than most combined.

Lol you’re probably right… and I’m not that biased, I can see that Starfield looks rough in some areas but this is a game with at least 9 months left of development.

Man, I am even more hyped after hearing some more details about the game! The fact that Todd said the spaceship fighting wasn’t ā€œtwitchyā€ made me happy too because I typically get way too spun around in fast flying games where I end up having no clue where I am at, so I may spend a ton of time making cool ships and trying to take out other ships around the galaxy during my travels :grinning:

The news about the lack of a space to planet transition might be good news. It could mean the planets are more diverse such that a transition system would be too complicated for the variety they have. It could also mean more detailed physics on the planets such that it would complicate landing/takeoffs too much.

Hearing Todd say they are using mechwarrior as one of their inspirations for ship gameplay pacing just hit me right in the soul (in all the right ways).

So flight is not seamless but that’s fine. But do we know if it’s optional? Do we select a planet to explore and then we get space flight and combat first and then it’s on to that selected planet?

Yeah i like this too, makes it feel more realistic if it’s more on the somewhat slower side and as he said last year space combat is more dangerous in the time the game is set.

Starfield was my most hyped game going into the showcase, after seeing it, I am even more hyped coming out and no amount of concern or dodgy hot takes are gonna dim my excitement for the game :relaxed:

I have seen it. For No Mans Sky. That launch was an absolute clusterfuck. Didn’t help it was a Playstation exclusive.

Thinking about it, space games in general often attract lots of stupid hate. Just start a discussion about Elite Dangerous vs. Star Citizen and you have to call the police.

I’ve said that i didn’t like the showcase for some reasons but the main point is that i loved what i seen in Starfield: this game is Simply Amazing.

After watching the gameplay in 4k resolution on my TV the graphic seems stunning: One of the most beautiful game that i ever seen. Very realistic and i like all of elements, also the combat but i agree with some people that It should be improved before the launch.

But what i wanna state Is: Bethesda gamesa have some of magic and i can’t descrive this feeling.

I played cyberpunk on PC (with 3080 rtx and the best setting) and i loved It in the same way i’ve been pleased with Horizon zero Dawn and God of War. But all these game didn’t give me the same feeling of Bethesda games: for example, i found the fallout76 Campaign very very Beautiful and i’ve been impressed by the world, not Amazing Graphic but a truly immersion into the post-apocalyptic setting where you can do whatever you want: this Is the power of Bethesda: their touch.

I don’t understand the criticisms about Starfield’s graphic: you’ll not find a so Epic RPG with this graphic detail.

It will be a GOTY but i Believe that many People are simply angry to don’t play this game on PS. Bethesda’s acquisition was very painful, very very painful.

I’d GUESS that it’ll work the same as current Bethesda games - you gotta fly out there the first time but there’s probably a fast travel system once you’ve actually been to a location.
