40fps and 60fps mode? Very nice. I wonder what the visual differences will be between the two modes, if not too big a difference I might go for 60fps.
Have they said when we can expect this to drop?
May 15.
While this update is sorely needed, what will let me get back into the game is a reduction of the number of loading screens. I don’t mind the idea of fast travel or the need to load new cells but it felt too jarring to have the game constantly interrupted (this was what it felt like to me when I was playing it last year). It just breaks immersion for me.
I played on XSX so I would hope that their presence wasn’t due to performance.
Best part is the dialogue camera, looked so much better without that zoom in.
It’s how the game is fundamentally setup, it’s not going to change much.
@Doncabesa will you be doing a preview on Steam Beta?
Ooh will watch it now - thanks
Kind of shitty how they didnt have this at launch. Like did they just find some new ways to improve performance or find new techniques they didnt know before
Secretly and he wont admit this but Phil would be a bit annoyed.
wut
Starfield got delayed an entire year. Was only in development for 1 console , people were told game csnt run at 60 or they didnt feel like it was important…then 8 months later you patch it in
Yeah im pretty damn sure Phil would be a bit annoyed considering the time bethesda had to optimise the game.
They could have thrown in a sub par 60fps version like sony do with their games and give people a choice
If starfield can run at 60 on X im willing to bet a ton of other 1st party games will
Dont be surprised if we see more 60fps gsme son xbox at launch because phil wont want this bad narrative to hinder the xbox
Ps - day 1 performance mode Xbox - 8 months later
Either never put in a 60fps patch or have it ready day1.
I have never been happier that someone doesnt make the decisions for a gaming division than now.
That’s not how anything works
Why can’t we just be thankful. It’s getting 60fps that is good news to me, I’m also hopeful the land vehicles come quickly.
I just hope they won’t break anything in the patch. The Fallout 4 patch came and auto HDR is gone and seemingly on Xbox is missing stuff. I do expect better QA from a Xbox studio.
I didn’t think we’ll have 60fps so never say never, they could figure stuff out the more time they look into it to at least reduce the frequency of them.
Yep, that’s how development and optimization literally is a lot of the time. And I don’t want to dismiss your argument completely, I think there’s a conversation there and what it’s a function of that some Xbox games haven’t launched with 60fps, but I think outside of Redfall they’re all obviously demanding games and not because they didn’t try or want or were supported enough to achieve 60fps.
That’s a good point, even if they can’t reduce the loading screens they might be able to reduce the loading times to make them barely noticeable.
They will likely do this when it inevitably gets it’s next gen patch in 2026+ but there’s always efficiencies you can identify now just like they have with this 60fps patch.
The ability to turn off the zoom with NPC interactions is a huge improvement IMO (and should be default). One thing that made the game feel slightly dated was the whole slight pause, zoom in, fixed camera, pause, zoom out, free camera interaction. That change alone makes the game feel so much more immersive and modern.
I’m sure someone will eventually release a mod to do this, however it would also be awesome if there was a more seamless way of landing, for example flying through the atmosphere of the planet then perhaps triggering some form of automated/seamless landing sequence when you get around the stratosphere level.
