I don’t expect the situation with Square Enix to change any time soon, especially with a niche series like SaGa. The agreements between Phil Spencer and the new CEO seem recent, so we will have to see what will happen in the long term. The important thing is that Xbox manages to have more relevant games like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest or Kingdom Hearts

Exactly, it was only a couple of months ago that their relationship was in the toilet
People shouldn’t just automatically expect everything now, especially super niche things like this, it’s gonna take time

I see people keep saying this, as much as I wish it was on Xbox we dunno what Sony paid to have it exclusive, including how Sony was going to help market it.
I feel this entire blunder was more how they expected during one of the biggest gaming years in recent memory expected to sell way more copies.
Yeah, the new ceo only recently started. It’s going to take time to see the real impact he makes…

The cost of exclusivity. I wonder what will happen to Square Enix in a couple of years. My intrusive thoughts are telling me that Saudi Arabia will buy them like they did with SNK or Scopely.

All that hype for FF16 and it hasnt sold above 4 million yet. Instead SE’s stock prices are falling. By comparison, something like grounded will have 10s of millions of players over its lifetime.
Just goes to show you that fanboy hype and real consumer interest are very different.

Back in 2013 SE said that Tomb Raider selling 3.4 million copies was a disappointment and then sold the IP.
Well, FF16 costs much more to make than TB and sales aren’t that much higher.
Dang, I just heard someone on a podcast talk about how great the Star Ocean 2 remake is and I’m pretty green with envy. Here’s hoping we get a late port!
