Square Enix and Xbox

There’s always Tabata’s team JP Games. Not sure what they’re doing now though.

I said “like Mistwalker” alluding to doing something LIKE that again. Doesn’t have to be Mistwalker, but MS can reach out to young Japanese devs or do something in house. It’s not like they lack teams. I mean what is keeping them from making Lost Odyssey 2? That one was basically intended to be their answer to Final Fantasy.

They have the money and they have the franchise, so there are openings there. Better than begging for it. Do what SEGA did before then, make your own. IT’s not easy and it’ll take a few years, but we can clearly see that SE wants to be with Sony, so why send them shitloads of money.

Star Ocean skipping xbox

At this point we have to ask how it is possible that Infinity Strash Dragon Quest is coming to Xbox

That is a simple answer. It is coming to the Windows Store so MS paid for it/assisted with it. Same with Ace Attorney Apollo Trilogy.

something has to do with IP owner yuji horii as he is the owner of that IP

dont reallly expect anything from square anymore

The only thing I want Microsoft to make sure it’s on Xbox is Dragon Quest, anything else they can get is a bonus, I guess.

Relationship seems one sided Phil. The only way square is gonna put games on Xbox is if you grow the share in Japan and grow the market share worldwide.

To grow in Japan you need games that appeal to the Japanese market.

No star ocean 2 on xbox is the last straw for me. FUCK this company and i hope they get liquidated.

It is really simple. Please Microsoft, buy Square Enix goddammit!

The game is not being developed internally at Square, but at Gemdrops, so the question is if Square is ever acquired (by anyone), do all these externally developed games they publish still even get made? That’s something that I think about with acquiring Square, their internal team output is actually quite low.

If Square were to be first party, maybe it would make sense to acquire some of those external teams and integrate them into S-E?

To be fair I don’t think their internal teams can be dismissed with recent internally developed games like FFXVI, XIV and Dragon Quest XI getting great critical acclaim. Even if certain IP have a big question mark next to them, there’s definitely talent there. In an acquisition I think they’d be a strong get either way.
To the actual question - I’d assume there was no reason why they couldn’t continue to work with external developers - for Xbox specifically it’s not as if they have any policy against such projects (having multiple of their own) and it gives an avenue for further expansion if there are independent studios they have a relationship with that prove themselves as strong assets.

Also cough if we’re talking Xbox expanding Square Enix with studio acquisitions my dream scenario would be them picking up Deck Nine and giving them full control of Life is Strange and the freedom to keep making what they want in that franchise. That team has too much talent to miss out on and I love what they’ve done in that franchise.

You reap. You sow.

Worth noting digital market for PS isn’t all that big either, so don’t expect to make up the difference.

The market has shifted significantly towards digital sales since 2016, and they’re releasing on less platforms compared to XV. This isn’t exactly surprising.

I’m more confused as to why Dring would use XV as a comparison point rather than VIIR - surely that would make for a better comparison as a more recent main title that launched on the same number of platforms?

I expect FF16 to do pretty good numbers. The demo seemed like it really improved people’s impression of the game

Although, Diablo is extremely PC slanted and being bigger than Dead Island isn’t impressive lol.

I personally do think the game will do good. My post in the analysis thread was mainly just to mock people who use this data to attack Xbox game sales but then point to digital when it comes to “their” games, lol.
