Guys, the game is gonna sell fine. Sony already announced a bundle for it and we know what that means. It’s gonna be the only way to buy a PS5 for the next three months, which will inflate the sales numbers for FFXVI much like it did with HFW and GOWR and Sony will tell Square that it’s worth keeping exclusivity beside Sony artificially inflating the sales numbers with forced bundle purchases.
There are quite a few people like myself who are disappointed that FF16 may set the new direction for the series. The series was the most mainstream turn-based/party based game outside of pokemon and served as an introduction to the JRPG genre for many. Now it feels like the developers are abandoning what FF stood for with FFXVI in an effort to appeal to the west.
I preordered FFXV, I bought FF7R shortly after it released on Steam, but I’ll be putting my money toward Like a Dragon 8 instead of FFXVI. Unfortunately the game going exclusive provides it cover in many online forums from people who will support it for that reason, and because of that I think the exclusivity deal was actually a great deal for Square. I just hope Square can see the success the Yakuza is having from their pivot towards a turn based/party based game and being multiplat.
I’d also bet these exclusivity deals were signed before it was so clear that PS5 software sales in Japan failed to catch on, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony has to sweeten the pot a bit after the initial 6 month deal expires.
This 100%. Square Enix always sets their expectations sky high and then act surprised when they don’t meet those expectations.
I have Final Fantasy XVI pre-ordered at GameStop. I’m 50/50 on it. If I see excellent reviews, I’ll most likely pick it up and at the very least, play it.
As for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, this is day one. I loved Remake and I love the combat system.
This is a Japan chart right?
Really highlights how far FF/Playstation software has fallen over there
To clarify a bit more it is pre order numbers at COMG! which is a small chain store. Because they make their pre order numbers public, people generally use it as a measuring stick kind of thing. It is generally accurate to overall “hype” and such.
From the new trailer just now. No mention of console exclusivity like they’ve done in the past.
I kinda wish Microsoft just moneyhatted one or two big games like this while going about their business of acquisitions, etc. They can definitely afford it and it would be a nice slap in the mouth to the competition that has been doing this for ages without repercussion.
Even Phil spencer pissed off at SE. Talks glowingly about Atlus FROM and namco but clearly dissapointed in Square enix
Phil also talked about Square Enix here
He says Xbox fans are requesting Square Enix games and Xbox is listening, and he brings up revealing a brand new Atlus game on their showcase and says he would like to reach a point in the relationship with Square Enix where Xbox could do that with them too.
I mean Square should know what they’re missing. Atlus clearly in high heaven with marketing and game pass. Capcom wants more of it as well.
Phil just doesnt get SE. Why would they do a Xbox port when their engineers can work on a NFT game instead?
Exactly.
Project RE Fantasy got announced by Atlus back in 2017…ITs been friggin 6 years until now…
Absolutely I believe MS help move this project along because Atlus probably shelved it for years.
I wonder what would happen is MS never got involved in investing into Atlus ports. I seriously doubt we get as many ports or games now even for other platforms.
It certainly sounds like the issue isn’t Xbox/Phil with SE. And that tweet earlier this year by Jez did make it sound like it was on Xbox…
Sounds like Phil will continue to try and get their games, but I have made peace with the fact we can forget about FF games. There are still other older games I’d love to see though like Trials of Mana to name one.
Meh, who needs em, with SEGA/Atlus on board SE is overrated. If you want to play GOOD RPGs, and not Adventure games with Jpop stars, then you play on Xbox or PC anyway.
A lot of people want to have Square games in Xbox. You can hate them all you want, but their games are good and quite different from Atlus games. Having the choice to buy Square games is a good thing.
So, summarizing…
Xbox fans: what’s happening between Xbox and Square Enix?
Phil Spencer: Honestly… I don’t know either.
Has the new SE CEO came in already? Because if not, maybe things can change then.
Honestly, more Square Enix games should come to Xbox Series X & S & Game Pass. Period.
Like I said and to be honest, not sure if I’m joking anymore, but if there’s anyone that will end up kneeling, it should be Square.
I don’t hate em, I’m saying: Get some pride in yourself, and stop begging.
It’s that SEGA fanboy spirit. If we can’t get the game? WE WILL MAKE IT OURSELVES!
SEGA did it before us, and now SEGA Fanboys do it to this day
And yes he even wrote that sound driver .
Get some darn pride man!
But for goodness sake: Stop begging. They clearly want to be in Sony’s camp, so sucking up will only cost you money.
And I can go on for a while.
But for goodness sake: Stop begging. They clearly want to be in Sony’s camp, so sucking up will only cost you money. Invest that into something like Mistwalker again .
You don’t need them really. You have to make similar games that caters to that audience, and that’s perfectly possible for MS.
mistwalker is done man its not like sakaguchi is very young dude
