I’ll keep saying it. Sony money is not involved with anything that’s also on Switch. For these releases Square even cancelled the Asian PS4 physical release and currently only put the Switch digital preorders up for now. Does this sound like something Sony put money into? A release that’s prioritizing Switch?
And honestly I believe Xbox is trying to get with them but I think with Xbox is not doing it’s going to allow themselves to be played a fiddle and try to nickel them for money trying to play both fields and get game pass money and Playstation money and I think Xbox says f*** it and honestly final fantasy ain’t the only premiere jrpg anymore
I don’t think Sony is involved with games skipping out on Xbox, but more so Square believing it’s not worth porting to Xbox. I feel Square might mess up shunning Xbox down the road because market share can change due to ABK deal and other acquisition. Xbox gamers might skip out on Square when market share grows, and Square will only have themselves to blame
As a SEGA fan I’m well used to Square being tossers. Like I said before mind. Team Xbox just need to fight fire with fire and look to do its own exclusive deals or just get more games from SEGA/Atlus on Gamepass
and considering the management of Square in recent years or quite frankly the last 2 decades, I don’t think it’s unfair to assume Square are being usual Square
Yeah this is really weird since I don’t know what MS could do to sour the relationship with Square…Phil and Sarah have numerous times mentioned SE as a very important partner so I don’t see how that makes sense. Also I don’t see how MS can pursue (quite successfully) a better relationship with Japanese devs/publishers in general and do something to fuck up their partnership with SE…like they wanted DQXI on Xbox and (most likely) paid for the Octopath Traveler port (maybe DQ Builders 2 too?) so it’s pretty clear that they wanted more SE games on their ecosystem.
The only way that I can see MS taking a negative stance is if they are pissed off about the FFVIIR situation and decided that showing any more goodwill at this point is not worth it. Either way something doesn’t add up in this story.
Yeah, exactly. Late last year they did bring Star Ocean to Xbox. But then newer games just skipped Xbox again. Why we did get Octopath 1 but not 2 is baffling. Hope we get some clarity on all this. And yeah, Jez would be better off just not saying a damn thing if he’s gonna keep it this vague, sigh.
Well it was tri-Ace who brought Star Ocean to Xbox, Square was just the publisher.
Octopath games are worked on by both Square’s internal Team Asano and Acquire Corp (who’s only ever released 1 Xbox game, on 360)
There’s been no day and date internal Square games on Xbox since KH3 in 2019, and none at all since Octopath 1 in 2021, and I’m convinced the Xbox port of that was outsourced, because of the interview I posted above where the actual devs say OT1 didn’t come to PlayStation because they were busy with OT2 (so it must have been another company who brought 1 to Xbox, with MS funds)
Wasn’t it as recent as last year that SE tweeted that they had a good relationship with Xbox or something? I remember this. Time flies, so maybe it was already back in 2021 but they definitely tweeted something closely along those lines. Sure, FF7R situation sucks, but at the end of the day it’s all business and MS has done this in the past too, with one big difference though…it was only a year exclusive, FF7R is just never happening. But I kinda doubt it’s about this, I think Xbox has long accepted this.
Man I wish Jez would just spill the beans. This “not what I’ve heard” shit is beyond annoying. Perhaps he’s gonna talk to Rand about it? Maybe I should prepare for the next DQ to likely not come to Xbox either.
Social media kumbaya means nothing lol. Xbox and Square have done that as recently as last month. In fact it feels like Square is the JP publisher that the Xbox Twitter interacts with the most lmao
I don’t care about all of these SE games but the FF Remake and 16 I do care about, Dragon Quest too. It’s yet another reason to just get it over with and buy a PS5, maybe this year. I just wish we knew for sure a “Pro” isn’t coming out next year. The way this shit is going with SE we won’t have any games left by them soon, including DQ. I’m definitely getting myself ready for that.
Jez implied Microsoft screwed up something related to Square (relationship or whatever) and @saintsflow20 said it actually don’t make sense that Sony is paying off Square to avoid Xbox only.
I see a lot of comments in that Twitter thread that these games just don’t sell all that well on Xbox, apparently Crisis Core didn’t do great. Is anyone shocked? They didn’t bring FF7R either, what did they expect? But at the same time it is probably not entirely untrue that not a whole lot of people with Xbox buy these games, unfortunately.
But Jez implies it’s about something else, truly wonder wtf he heard. MS screwing up with a Japanese pub is way in the past now and Phil is well aware of Xbox still needing better, more consistent support from some of them. It’s greatly improved, no denying that but I cannot imagine they would intentionally sour their relationship, not even with SE.
Jez implies it’s Xbox’s fault, and we might as well believe it, but if he can’t speak freely then he shouldn’t mention it at all…
So why are relations with Capcom, Bandai Namco, SEGA, Atlus, Marvelous getting better, but only those with Square Enix getting worse? It’s not a recent problem: Square has been inconsistent with its Xbox releases for years, but it’s only recently gotten worse.
Again, Capcom, Sega and Namco don’t seem to have problems selling their games on Xbox at all. I wonder what the difference is between their support and Square’s.
I’m constantly flabberghasted by SE’s attitude. When companies expand to a new market, they typically expect losses for a number of years until they establish presence and build rapport with the consumer base.
Ultimately SE is the odd duck out with their diminished presence on Xbox. Every other mid-to-major publisher has full support of Xbox, which would indicate it makes sense to release games there.
