Square Enix and Xbox

You can develop games that do both such as nier automata. Something like scalebound was clearly geared to the western audience, but with a bit of tweaking it could appeal to the Japanese audience. The protagonist for a start.

Yes, and more of that for major stuff, that marketing helped propel P5 way up the top played GP games.

But for the niche stuff that doesn’t warrant that kind of marketing deal, something like a NIS game or a Square HD2D game or whatever, I would like to see Xbox third party directs, in which these kinds of games appear (and I don’t mean exclusively these kinds of games, just have them in there), have gameplay trailers, and try to get more Xbox user eyes on these games.

I think it takes a bit more than dropping them on GP without telling Xbox users why they should download them.

Additional thing: If they ever did these kind of directs, don’t market late ports lol. I’m talking about showcasing new reveals there. This is something that’s a bit irksome about Xbox TGS showcases, it’s just a late ports show. It’s almost the format I’m talking about, just need it to be a standalone kind of small show and not just for JP viewer eyes.

This is just one step I think Xbox should do to help with engagement with Japanese games on their platform.

On the Japanese version of that message, they said it’s 1 million sales and 2 million players so it’s about 1 million GP players

Call it a hot take but I do believe Square is still retro in terms of calling it a success. You can argue the incredibly high expectations is part of it as well. Part of me thinks they have still that mentality of sales equal only success or however it works. Take Shonen Jump magazine for example. It’s still selling physical over there. Here in USA, it’s only digital. Case in point, Square perhaps not adapt players equal success.

Bandai and Sega called Game Pass games that they placed a success and feel happy to be part of it. We don’t know how much the game sold, but they’re happy nonetheless. I know Square did put games into Game Pass before, but I think they don’t know what to make out of it. Plus it could be some behind the scene with Sony or among themselves, but that’s another topic for another day.

Now Capcom is going to take that chance with Exoprimal and see how it feels to be success without relying on sales. Western success differs from before. I’m not saying sales doesn’t matter, but what I’m saying it’s not the only way for success.

Can’t really blame xbox if Atlus/Sega are stupid enough to make it exclusive again after the success of 5 everywhere else

Then again, maybe they just expect everyone to double dip again or maybe Sony already signed timed exclusivity years ago

Not much xbox can do about that

Getting carried by basically FF14 and little else is not what i’d consider doing fine

If most of your success is coming from one game that means you’re 1 game away from shitsville

Anyway, this problem will solve itself when MS gets some more Japanese devs or maybe a publisher :sunglasses: not these little advertising deals for mostly old games that you all misunderstand.

You know what’s worse than Square Enix not supporting Xbox? Pretend you have a partnership with them

“Our friends at Xbox”

Your posts didn’t illuminate or explain anything like most of the SE cope posts in this thread, and now you’re throwing out insults, emotional.

People keep saying this crap. But sega are supporting xbox more. Mroe gamepass deals more multiplats. Why? Because the trust level with ms has grown and theyre benfiting with gamepass deals

SE are just butthurt MS didnt offer gamepass money to more of their games therefore blocking those games because maybe sony told them to.

Namco have no issues portign symphonia to xbox or the sword art games or the one piece games or any anime related game.

Also watch SE bitch about how these games sell poorly. Good.

Square is that friend that pretends she cares about you and the next day when she’s hanging with her other friends pretends she doesn’t know you

Persona 6 on xbox is an absolute certainty at this point. The question is did sony sign an timed exclusive deal a while ago or not. If they dod well see it on xbox after 1 year not 5. And if not then day and date with pc too. Im hugely confident in that.

They have the fucking gall to use crisis core image.

You want to play SE games on Xbox, I get it. The problem is SE does not value you as a customer who prefers to use Xbox. The way the market is MS/Xbox cannot change this through marketing or even Gamepass deals (they’ve had GP deals for FF, KH, DQ, and lesser SE titles). SE only cares about about market share. MS/Xbox cannot change this through marketing deals for old games or AA games that are irrelevent and already on platforms that have greater marketshare. MS/Xbox can only gain marketshare at a reasonable pace through acquisitions of Japanese studios/pubs, with regards to the market in Japan. By all indications, this is what MS is intending to do.

Time to face reality and stop expecting a years old Trails game coming to Gamepass is going to move the needle.

Gamepass is the future in terms of a bmvisble revenure stream. When you have AAA games needing to sell 10m just to be a financial success and most games barely hit 3m…youve got a problem

And you missed my point. Its about trust and having the relationship with yhat company long term. Sega have a great relationship with ms. It will benifit them if they need eztra cash for support for example pso or yakuza deals.

You dont just fucking blanket ignore a company like this. Its more than just “duh games dont sell duh”

SE just came out and said a lot of their games are selling like shit. So clearly its not an xbox problem. Its a SE problem.

We know the reality. SE are on their knees. The problem is using old games as a sales metric.

I know SE doesnt value me as an xbox gamer. Which is why ill trash talk and laugh at them saying their games sell badly. Good. If SE go under. Noone aside from ff fanboys will care. They have so man ygreat ips other conpanies and studios would do better.

The dream Japanese acquisition has to be Capcom but I’d consider that highly unlikely. It’s a shame though because they make games which appeal to both western & Japanese audiences and they’ve always supported Xbox well.

Imagine every RE title on Game Pass though…? Still, at the rate Sony is aggressively attempting to block Microsoft everywhere (moneyhatted anti-Xbox deals behind the scenes & lobbying regulators), I feel Microsoft can only respond with proactive pre-emptive strikes anyway in the form of securing content via acquisitions. I mean if Sony bought Square & Capcom (or god forbid From Software), there would soon be a serious issue with Japanese content (or lack thereof) on Xbox.

RE and Capcom are Japanese games through and through. The “aimed at western audiences” is a copout that people use when their “Xbox owners don’t like Japanese games” narrative is constantly proven false. Final Fantasy should also fall into the category of being “aimed at the west” with how well it does there by your logic. I’ve always been a fan of Japanese games and owned every xbox for every DMC I couldn’t get in the PS2 generation there was Ninja Gaiden Black/Otogi, for every Tekken when it was still PS exclusive there was Dead or Alive. Even “niche” Japanese titles like Crimson Sea , Phantom Crash, Phantom Dust , Metalwolf Chaos etc. Hell it was Japanese Publisher Sega that brought me to xbox to begin with after Dreamcast.

The 360 had ZERO problems getting Japanese content either save for a few games, not to mention when Sony shit the bed DMC, Final Fantasy and eventually even Metal Gear came to Xbox. It was only during the Xbox One gen that this became an issue. Outside of the super niche stuff most of it sold very well on xbox.

Your take reminds me of Jez’s equally nonsense take that the Fighting game genre audience is on PlayStation when that only became the case when Sony snatched SF 5 and caused the domino effect of everything else skipping.

The audience is always there if the games are there. Sony knows this which is why they conduct business the way they do (ei pay publishers to keep games off of competing consoles) Sony wouldn’t need to bother paying Square or Capcom for exclusivity if their games truly didn’t sell well . Oh and I almost forgot how well the Souls games do on xbox. Despite there being “no audience for Japanese games”.

Persona 5 Royal is better than any game Square Enix have put out in two decades, so if the trade-off is missing trash like Forspoken to have that gem on Game Pass I’ll take it.

In any case, blaming the fanbase not being on Xbox doesn’t make any sense. SE released Diofield, Star Ocean 6 and Chrono Cross to the console just last year. You’re telling me they can justify those ports but not a flagship IP like Final Fantasy??

It’s just a mismanaged shitshow at SE from start to finish. They are so tightly wrapped round Jim Ryan’s little finger that they are actively deconstructing the fanbase for their IPs and merchandising just so Sony - and only Sony - can profit.
