Specs for a hypothetical Xbox portable

I want that Z1 Extreme in an ultra portable laptop with a decent battery. That thing is tight!

my laptop shell is cracked and I am in the market for a gaming laptop. However, this price makes it tempting just to get Z1 extreme which will cost half the price of a gaming laptop

I just need a good working laptop that has some graphical prowess for the kind of work I do. This thing seems really good in what it is supposed to do and then some. Not just for gaming :stuck_out_tongue: .

There will be laptops with similar specs. Just watch for configurations with AMDs 7040U ‘phoenix’ line of chips. The 7840U should be pretty close to a Z1 Extreme and the 7640U close to the Z1.

So the Ally is a little bigger than the Switch in every direction (11.02x4.37x0.83 inches versus 9.4x4x0.55 inches with joycons) and a fair bit heavier (1.34 pounds vs 0.88 lbs with joycons)

This sounds pretty impressive if the battery is any kind of respectable, as someone who’s always been curious but resistant about PC gaming, this could be what I hoped the Deck would be.

Edit: how hot it gets would also be an important factor!

This you tuber has ROG Ally retail box already👀

Does any other you tuber you know of has it?

Microsoft has in their hands all over Asus ROG ALLY and yet they don’t see value in a Xbox handheld…

It doesn’t have to be BC with the S! Just make something.

If they are working on something, this could mean they’re doing a good job on keeping it from leaking(so far). Of course it could just be that there’s nothing, but I’m still optimistic.

Why would Xbox want to introduce another specs target that devs would have to hit? A handheld simply doesn’t make sense - unless its a cloud based device. The Series S is a baseline and you cannot hit that in a handheld that would be remotely affordable.

At this point MS simply needs to make a gaming version of windows 11 to run on PC and Handhelds

Bc with xb1. No mandatory dev support. Feature parity with the S.

Basically the device I thought up in the OP.

With the Ally on the way and more and more players entering the market, for now I think they are better just supporting things like this from the sidelines

Making their own dedicated product means a lot of R&D, man power and devs needing to target yet another SKU

Maybe one day it would make sense but right now, they can let all these other companies do the work and still profit from it

Yeah, I’m more than fine with this alternative . However, I do think they should invest in handheld mode for W11 os

Lol I think that’s what Surface should do to promote a mobile W11

Based on the ROG Ally benchmarks, it looks to be somewhere in the vicinity of .5x to .75x of a Series S.

Have not seen anyone run series S settings games on it

Some of the optimised titles like FH5 will be very close to series S performance on 30 watts.

So far the game can do 80+ fps at 1080p med settings on 30 watts on Ally

For me battery life is not a concern because I will always play plugged in. And handhelds are for regulars and indie games anyways.

My FH5 is well optimised and indie games already have 2+ hours battery life on handhelds.

I dunno, that memory bandwidth deficit is a lot. We are talking 224 GB/s for Series S and 102.4 GB/s for ROG Ally.

There is extra 16mb of L3 on the ROG ALLY. Remains to be seen if that makes a difference.

I’ll probably still stick to my Steam Deck + Steam Deck Tools + Windows. Basically the same as the ASUS but not as powerful. Good for people that also can’t be hooped with tinkering with tech.
