I had a few all nighters playing Destiny in 2014. It was ‘the’ place to play third party AAA games, especially with a much improved multiplayer experience compared to the PS3.
I don’t see how the PS5 offers a similar type of “this is the best place to play” between 2020 & fall 2023. The Series X has everything covered.
IT boggles my mind that all I heard out of this from so called “gamers” is “Well Sony sales have been the greatest ever”
WHY do so called GAMERS always go back to SALES to justify all the crap Jim and Sony have peddled over the last 5-7 years.
Sony has been one of the most anti consumer asshole companies I’ve ever seen lately and when confronted with all the crap they have pulled all Sony fans can do is respond with “Well the PS sales are great”
Who fucking cares? Are you a gamer/consumer or a damned share holder?
Ryan was a pure business man and the decisions he/Sony made for PlayStation 5 were bad but in all honesty and fairness, game wise, the first three years at least for me were superior this generation than last generation. The quantity was higher between 2013 launch through 2016 but the quality has been higher between 2020 launch through 2023.
It will be hilarious if the mobile guy is put in charge on a permanent basis. PlayStation fans will be begging Jim Ryan to come back!!! lol
Sales is an easy to understand metric, even a cultist can usually identify which number is higher. Or at least be told so by those higher up in the clergy.
And the funny thing about THAT is, is that sales also matter until they don’t. Sony has had a well documented (particularly from the fine folks at InstallBase, whose motto is practically “Show Your Work”) issue with software sales in Japan being a smoking crater.
Their response: “They’re still selling consoles. They’re just all playing a bunch of free to play, or buying digital over in Japan. And the free to play thing is why Sony’s making all those GaaS.” Never mind the fact that digital ratios in Japan would have to be to a skew never before seen in any region on Earth for PlayStation’s software sales to be anything better than incredibly awful.
Nintendo’s smashing success with software in Japan is simultaneously handwaved away.
Jim’s real legacy is Playstation domination in Europe when he was the lead there on the PS2 generation but it will be interesting to see what his PS5 strategies will do in the long term as he was still riding mostly on the ones of his predecessor.
I only hope for his/her successor to increase the cadence of PC ports.
Yea pretty funny, Glad MS got their GAAS stuff out of the way first, Sea of Thieves, Grounded kind of Minecraft are huge successes and will continue when the whole GAAS thing dies down a bit.
Sony is going to screw up their SP game flow to chase GAAS games that some will flop and from the timing the fad may be reduced by the time Sony gets these out the door.
I feel like Disney makes more sense for them. They’d probably have to (or want to) sell off too much of Sony’s business. I’m guessing there would be issues with them taking on the audio and music side of the business. They’d also probably want to shutter or sell off the mobile phone portion.
You shut the hell up, Jon! Why would you put that out there!? Man, take it back before it manifests itself into reality!
Only joking. Most Apple dorks are usually PlayStation users by default. And I doubt Apple releasing an $800 PS6 is going to get iPhone users to get into console gaming.
As we have seen with Phil, because games and consoles take so long to make, we probably won’t see the true legacy of Jim Ryan until probably at the end of the generation.
It would be 4 years of hell followed by the launch of all all aluminum games console with no backwards compatibility and the power of a PS4 Pro for $3000 USD. PSN would double in price again but include Apple TV and all games would have to be played via Siri commands unless you bought an $80 dongle to plug in your old PS5 controller (no longer sold at retail).
Also there would be no more God of War, The Last of Us or Spider-Man because that wouldn’t be sophisticated enough for the brand. Instead the only game available at launch would be a Tell Tale Games version of the book “Steve Jobs” and the only way to platinum it would be to complete the game with a set of Air Pods Max registered with your Apple ID.
Also they aren’t called trophies anymore because sports are gross and for peasants. They’re called homages now.
So basically I would be quite excited. Nothing like watching a So y fanboy bankrupt themselves buying a gaming console from a company that doesn’t even like gaming to spite Xbots.
