I think this is all a misunderstanding and I’ll play peacemaker here because I love y’all.
I agreed with your post and I do agree that optics-wise, MS has some issues and that they can do some things to clear up those issues. One of them being releasing a gameplay trailer of a game that takes full advantage of its hardware. That alone would go a long way in addressing multiple concerns of people still skeptical.
For many people, the proof is in the pudding and in the gaming industry the pudding is literally a real-time gameplay demo.
Also I think responding with “just buy a PlayStation” is pretty dismissive and irrelevant because you didn’t really get into what Sony was doing, but rather you were focused on what MS was not doing.
But to respond to those replies with the “weirdos” comments is a bit juvenile, you have to admit.
Some people are tired of the doomposting and probably saw your stuff as that. From your perspective, these people need to be a bit more critical of what they care about and grow a thicker skin. Both sides are right. It’s all about hitting that balance, and it’s not easy. This forum constantly striving for that balance already makes this a great place to discuss gaming.
Lucas brought up a great point about MS accomplishing a whole lot and raising the bar, but I feel like you both missed out on the fact that you’re both talking about different bars. MS raised the bar as a hardware manufacturer creating a great machine with great services, and acquiring high-end exclusive content. Essentially announcing the acquisition of the best lemons and the best fruit-presser to make lemonade. What you’re talking about is a bar in regards to how MS is showcasing that lemonade for those that want to taste how good it is. You’re both right because you’re talking about 2 different bars, ie. Sets of standards on two different aspects of the industry.
Like all industries, half of this industry is not about the products you make, it’s all about the marketing. It’s all about the hype-game. So we look at The GAs and see it as an opportunity. MS made fantastic use of it last time. At present, their needs are different and what consumers need to see is not the same as what they needed to see 12 months ago.
The game awards aren’t E3, either. I found the XSX reveal to be relevant to the idea of celebrating developers. Showcasing Death Stranding wasn’t very relevant and seemed like an obvious commercial. But hey, maybe that’s what TGA to be all about now.
Anyways, I think we’re all largely in agreement here. MS has done a lot of great things, still struggle in some of the marketing, that in time we’re going to see the potential of MS Game Studios realized, that TGA represents a marketing and hype opportunity that can’t be passed up, and that regardless of what the competition is doing that it would be nice to see something from MS.
If I sound delirious in this monster of a post there’s a medical reason for that lol I’m taking the day off as I don’t feel too well
