Sony cancels Bluepoint and Bend's live service games - Bloomberg

and the one isn’t a money printer long-term. it sold great early but isn’t some mtx-fueled earner.

It seemingly is being carried by PC and not doing much on the console too.

I think Concord undo the confident and money making from HD2 success and more. Concord is directly from their studio.

Agreed.

For Sony, unless they acquire more established live service studios, I just don’t see the point in going after live service games when they’re track record is abysmal and the majority of their studios aren’t equipped to do them. Trying to chase Fortnite in my opinion is a losing battle because that market is too oversaturated as it is and a perfect example is Ubisoft. They keep going after something that is simply out of their reach.

On the contrary, i hope somebody gets fired for this.

Start at the top with Hulst.

It would be interesting to see what they had planned for GoW, first thing that popped into my mind is a For Honor-style game.

Yeah, this makes the claims that singleplayer games won’t suffer due to the live service push even funnier.

I know not to use him, but the quote did come from the video. That said I understand that’s the idea of remaster, but it’s not easy to re-purchase the same game from couple of years ago. Also, the fans aren’t as loyal as Nintendo where they will purchase them again, though even in their defense, some were Wii U titles, the console with very little fan base in compare to any other generation of Nintendo. Trust me, I would love to support the devs, but this is a difficult way.

I don’t really agree with the idea of “supporting” the devs by buying something I don’t want, in order to bribe them into making the thing I actually do want.

It’s a business. I’ll buy the product that I actually do want and any further “support” they need is not my problem.

Exactly this.

I remember reading on otherera some people saying that the Xbox fanbase should support Crisis Core if they want FF7R on their console, you can bet your ass that I won’t buy Crisis Core (or FF16) because I don’t give a F for it…if you won’t release FF7R you aren’t seeing any money from me. :man_shrugging:

The quote doesn’t mention support and just kind justifies why they make them. Not sure about the actual video because I’m not going to watch it, but sysing they make remasters to help fund the other games is fine.

I’m still baffled about what Bluepoint was doing. Because if I were to acquire a remaster studio, that’s what I would do too…

How cool would a Killzone or Resistance remastered collection have been. Maybe not an enormous seller, but I can guarantee it would have sold more than the zero copies that a cancelled game sells.

It’s right there! Right there for easy profit and development cycle.

An obvious layup. But what do I know, I’m not the exec making six figures for assigning a remaster studio to a God of War GAAS.

They probably didn’t want to be a remaster studio forever (who would?). I don’t blame them, but putting them on a GaaS isn’t the greatest choice IMO. Maybe a smaller game would have made sense.

I know I harbored a lot on the remake studio aspect and you’re right, but a live service would be like last three category they would want to do.

Someone sent me this and I didn’t realise how big the list is now:

Its just because Sony is so proficient at game development and studio management. Cancelling things is just evidence of their brilliance and unrivaled expertise in the industry.

I’m sure we will see a flurry of concerned opinion pieces about Sony’s directionless business strategy and how these rampant cancellations and mixed messages are confusing and upsetting players.
