Sony buying Bungie for $3.6 billion, Destiny 2 and future projects will remain multiplatform

Overall a good feedback on this acquisition.

Yes, and I think that really pisses them off.

Imagine Conker or Banjo being on Playstation. That would be weird to be honest.

Sony should have bought the rights to Crash Bandicoot a long time ago just so this stuff doesn’t happen.

This showcases a few things

  • 1 Fanboys who shat on Halo suddenly are happy to play it and are excited to play it

  • 2 They are so excited to play it on PS and think it’s about time they got to play it but didn’t ever think about buying a Xbox to play it that’s how loyal they are

  • 3 People are stupid.

Your second point can’t be overstated. I think a big part of the uproar about acquisitions really does just boil down to people abjectly refusing to even consider getting an Xbox. It’s absolutely anathema to them and so they view it as something being “taken away” from them. Really it comes down to complacency and yes, entitlement though I’m not using that word in a pejorative way.

There are definitely some folks who sincerely dislike the practice of mergers and acquisitions but I’d say a vast majority is comprised of these stubborn fanboys. It’s frustrating to see, since it makes a good-faith discussion practically impossible. How many of these arguments are coming from an honest perspective and how many are just latching onto it as a high-handed way of expressing their displeasure?

You know the type, the people who fret about consolidation in one breath and openly hope Sony “counter-punch” in another. And even when confronted about that, they try to weasel out of looking hypocritical by acting like poor Sony has no other choice and have been forced to this low by the evil empire Microsoft. Like we should care about corporations rather than our own interests as consumers.

I’m of course not castigating those folks who can only afford one console and are already locked into Sony’s ecosystem. I know firsthand how much it sucks to feel like you’re being left behind and missing out because you don’t have enough disposable income. But at the end of the day, it’s just games. It’s 100% possible to go back and play everything you missed out on at a much lower price if you’re willing to wait (not to mention that Game Pass and Xcloud make that cheaper than ever).

All that being said, my skin in this game also certainly leads to some bias so I guess nobody’s perfect :man_shrugging:

Could we potentially see Xbox create their own looter shooter ‘Destiny’ type game?

It could be based in the Halo universe but a spin-off underneath its own distinctive name.

Alternatively I think the Gears/Doom universe would be awesome.

I think it would be very interesting to see Xbox try something down this route, especially as PS are stating they will have 10 live service games by 2026.

Why would they care? The shareholders are going to cash out regardless and afterwards its no longer their problem

In fact Google could of already have bought a big publisher but as we found out with Zenimax, Google is entirely unwilling to spend the big bucks to invest in gaming like MS is
