All the wireless pro controllers by other companies are more expensive than the Elite series in the United States.
Right I forgot about the wireless part. If someone minds a wired connection I guess that’s true, didn’t think about it since it doesn’t bother me.
I’m pretty sure all wireless pro controllers are just modded normal controllers anyway, if not all, most.
It’s a no brainer. I can no longer use a controller without the back buttons.
Thank God the steam deck has back buttons.
Weird theres no share button but you can always set it to one of the back buttons.
In the 360 days I used to make my own “paddle” controllers and wrote a few tutorials on it. As others have said once you get used to paddles you miss them. Especially in FPS and games where you have to use the right thumbstick and press buttons at the same time.
When I went to PC I used the elite Series 1 and then went to the Series 2 when they came out. I gifted the 1 to a friend and he loved it. His son damaged it so he bought the series 2 at the end of 2020. He eventually had a thumbstick issue and just recently bought a Core to replace it. On my S2 I had an issue with my LB button not working and the trigger stop cap coming off on one slider at around the 10 month mark. I unfortunately didn’t realize MS extended the warranty to 1yr and still thought it was 90 days. I bought the parts to repair the LB button and left the controller sitting . I then went to a SCUF PS4 controller, back to xbox controller with the collective minds attachment but missed the weight of the elites. I decided to buy another S2 and had an issue with the thumbstick while it was under warranty. I got a replacement from MS exactly 1 year ago and have had zero issues with it.
Even with the issues I still prefer the elite over other options.
I just recently repaired my original S2 and replaced both LB and RB buttons just so they were the same.
Can we talk alternatives? I don’t know that I can exchange my busted Series 2 but I might be able to get my money back. I’d be fine with spending up to 200 USD and I don’t need the paddles. I do really like the pogo pin charging system it has, where you can just put it on a base and it charges.
Alternately I could hold out hope that the Elite 3 comes out soon and isn’t made of papier-mâché.
If you don’t need the paddles then what aspects are you using? Is it merely adjusting the stick height? Do you use the tension adjustments? Is it the trigger stops?
Sorry, I messed that up. I meant that I don’t need 4 paddles, two is probably enough, and I don’t need the profile switching either. Tension adjustment and hefty pleasant feel are what I care most about.
Oof, that hurt to watch.
This prompted me to go looking to see if any rumours about series 3 had popped up and the answer is they haven’t.
Although a couple of sites were speculating that as there was a 4 year gap between S1 and 2 the 3 might be due ~October this year.
In case anyone cares (and is comfortable with disassembling and assembling electronics), I recently purchased some pro pads from RetroSix in the UK to see if they would fix the fairly common face button issue with my (10th) Elite Series 2. I disassembled, cleaned the daughter board with IPA and added the pro pads to the 4 face buttons and reassembled. Everything now seems to work perfectly so it could have been the IPA (the board appeared clean to me, but you never know), the pro pads or the combination of both. I’m actually shocked with how flawless the button presses are now. I would have expected an improvement, but not for it to be perfect.
I used the iFixit disassembly guide, but you can skip desoldering step. The length of the wires makes it fairly trivial to just shuffle the motherboard out of the way when you need to. Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Disassembly - iFixit Repair Guide
The pads are available here if anyone wants to get them.
Ugh. After finally getting my Elite Series 2 working back before the summer, I’m now having another much worse issue with it. Whenever it’s plugged in it’s constantly turning on my Xbox and then bringing up guide repeatedly. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this before? I’m guessing it’s a short in the input PCB, but you can never really be sure I guess.
Here’s a video of it happening. The overlay is because I originally thought it was an xbPlay issue, but it turns out my controller was doing it from the charging case.
I recently had to replace the top shell of my elite 2 (rubber grip coming away from the body not a glue failure but the plastic shell itself had broken) and got the new top plate from these guys ubermicro I’m guessing you’re in UK from post above so may be worth a look to see if they can recommend a fix/replacement part.
I’m actually located it in Canada. I took it apart and reassembled it to see if something was loose, but it didn’t make a difference. The battery also looked ok. I’ll take it apart and clean the pcbs, but I’m not hopeful. Also it turns out the new part replacement program MS has isn’t available in Canada and the input PCB is currently out of stock anyway.
Looks like it’s a US only thing, did see quite a few parts listings on Ebay when I was poking about for the top plate.
Or wait for series 3 with hall effect sticks ← wishful thinking not secret insider info.
Hey,
I have one, please don’t buy one. Between the the stick drift Rb problems compounded with the price its not worth it.
Same. I wanted to make a post because I had the displeasure to find out how the quality didn’t improve from V1 to V2. I bought one a couple weeks ago and after one day of using it, I asked for a refund.
I had the Y button half stuck so it worked 1/3 of the time, so it was hard to change weapon when playing FPS. I learned that it was a very common problem.
Yeah, it’s cool to be able to swap sticks, have paddles, battery and charger, but the quality is not there. It’s awful compared to any regular Xbox Series controller. I’m baffled at MS for messing this up 2 times in a row…
I’m really enjoying mine. My only problems come from the shoulder buttons. I’ve played a lot of Ark and Valheim which uses the left shoulder button, and now it requires a harder press to activate, but I’ve just mapped the top 2 paddles to the shoulder buttons and never looked back. I prefer the extra weight of the controller, and the battery performance is still great even though it gets used heavily.
Knock on wood, but I’ve had my elite series 2 for 10 months and no issues so far
Had my Halo Edition since launch and use it almost daily and on trips, it still works as good as the day I opened it. According to online chatter it seems we are lucky SOBs lol
