I just had a quick search and it seems he’s been called out many times before, especially in regards to Xbox games:

This game gets me every time, whenever I’m holding up and the way everything is going I keep thinking ā€˜cutseen’. So I stop holding up to move forward and a it looks like it’s a cut scene only for Senua to stop 2 seconds later waiting for me to continue.

Ok, that’s enough for tonight. I feel pumped up but exhausted.

It started off so nice and then 2 hours later I was just like.

I think this might be one of the most confident first party releases Xbox has ever put out, obviously because they just allowed Ninja Theory to have the resources to do what they want. I don’t think any one can credibly state that this is anything other than a success then, because it is exactly what the community was asking for a few years ago.

Whether or not you like the game is subjective, and that I get.

For me… iit’s astonishing. I have found the game the most thrilling media I’ve experienced in years. Like, sure, it’s not complicated - I get a lot more fun out of being a god in Assasin’s Credd Odyssey, but when I die in that it’s like the game’s conspired to kill me, as each fight is essentially me versus the game. The skill isn’t really there, it’s not reactive, and AC:O makes the illusion of being at risk part of it’s balance. Hellblade II on the other hand actively makes me scared for each encounter, as it’s so focus, so real, and so heavy.

That won’t be for everyone, but it is exactly what I wanted from the experience.

But the combat and gameplay is minimal, that’s not a controversial thing. It’s a looker but it’s not a game that’s going to sell or move consoles. If you can’t recognize that then there is no conversation to be had. It’s not a anti Xbox conspiracy

Let’s hope the next gears looks half as good as this because at least we know the gameplay there is fun and repeatable.

Why would minimal gameplay have to do with the score though? You cannot head in on a game like Hellblade 2 and compare it to a game like Ninja Gaiden Black or DmC in terms of gameplay. In those games the story doesn’t take the center stage and it’s about gameplay first and foremost. In Hellblade 2, the combat is used as a way to tell the story and advance it, not just as filler between checkpoints. Not saying one way is better than the other, but both are different and have their merits and should be scored accordingly.

Going into Hellblade 2 pretending to expect one thing and then coming out saying it wasn’t what you wanted is wrong considering the game should be scored according to the developer’s intent as if that was their vision and how they designed it and it hits all the right notes, it should get a good score.

Games are an interactive medium and there are different ways to approach it. People coming in expecting an action game were wrong from the beginning and it’s not MS’s nor Ninja Theory’s fault as that was made quite clear, especially since we already have the first game and knew what to expect.

I have no personal opinion on the game itself. (Haven’t played it yet.) I was just commenting on the extremely positive previews the game received a few weeks back, leading to predictions of a 90+ ā€œGame of the Year.ā€

I play on all platforms and always try to look at things objectively. But it’s a bit hard not to notice a certain difference in how Xbox and PS games are reviewed sometimes…

This review knocked it down to an 81 on OC

It’s been a LONG LONG time since a game blew me visually and this one is crazy good looking, I think the combat is fun as well and I love the story so far.

Sad AGAIN a game is being used as console war fodder, fuck that shit, this is the type of game Sony fans drool over but now it is Xbox related it is getting torn to shreds.

Shit is so old and tiring, just ignore it. This game is a MAJOR technical accomplishment and REALLY is a huge step forward for this gen.

Can’t skip cutscenes LOL.

He’s free to dislike the game of course, but talk about completely missing the point. That’s IGN Football Manager level of missing the point.

Jeez - I saw a comment on another site saying ā€œmost people skip cutscenesā€ and if that’s true I don’t want to play games anymore.

What are these people doing if they’re just skipping the cutscenes in every game on their first playthrough? Without knowing the story or why you’re actually doing any of it, surely it’s just the same ā€œlearn the controls, respond correctly to an enemy’s attacksā€ combat gameplay for the rest of their lives…

Multiplayer games I can understand - the story is the one you make with friends, but single player games I want to feel I’m achieving something, doing something good, not just pressing buttons for the sake of it…

This game is incredible. I can’t speak for anybody else, but I’ve been gaming for a long ass time and I have never experienced anything like this. It’s beautiful, it’s real, it’s heavy, it’s emotional, it’s exhausting… It has redefined my perception of what a game could be.

I will never understand why someone who has no interest in cutscenes or story would want to play a game that’s all about the narrative and cutscenes. It’s like playing Madden when you don’t like football and then complaining that you have to play the football parts.

Funny thing is you can skip cutscenes at least on a 2nd playthrough cause I did for the collectibles

Guess that confirms they didnt play it.
