I dunno… real life does have a lot of trees.
Yeah. The game does a really great job being seamless, it transitions from gameplay to cutscene, to dawn, to daylight, to Hel to combat without breaking stride. Had to repeatedly activate photo mode just to make sure its all realtime.
Played 2 hours so far. Its more of the same from the first game, do like that its focusing less on Senuas internal dialogues and more with other characters than the first game.
Lol I’ll admit I’m confused - is it a thing that some PlayStation game uses a load of trees to make it look better or do you mean Hellblade 2?
As Iceland famously doesn’t have many trees…
That’s a next gen game. Absolute insane.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it said a while ago that TC assisted with Hellblade 2 for UE5?
They know what they are doing and I have a feeling we are about to EAT real damn good with that Gears of War 6 reveal. The only “pain” will be a wait of 1,5 year, I expect.
Yes!
Which after seeing HB2 makes me even more excited for Gears! Visually I have never seen a game look this good.
IMO it even surpasses games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon Zero Forbidden West.
Probably showing my age but it reminds me of…
I think the game is exhilarating when combat starts, wish they had further developed that. More than likely the best looking game ever made on consoles. But just can’t bring myself to keep playing after a little over 3 hours. The slow pacing and constant voices talking in her head are just not doing it for me.
Ahhhh lol - Spider Man was my favourite PS exclusive last gen so I’d not spotted that one.
But now I think about the few others I tried and I watched my partner play, it is a definite pattern lol
Outside of Epic themselves, they are the masters of Unreal and I believe many members of TC were former employees of Epic so it makes sense why they are so good with it
They’re better than Epic. There’s a reason why epic has them work on stuff like the Matrix demo
Saw a tweet of one of those framerate analysis accounts and they show fps going into 20s at some point in this game. It’s ElAnalistaDebits and according to them dynamic resolution can go as low as 963p. And still fps drops, but I don’t think they got that right.
Did you guys notice any or has it been mostly 30fps locked so far?
Not sure, useless to measure those metrics on a title like this (a looot of film and camera effects)
Will be interesting for say Gears, or another ue5 title with more speed.
Only a few hours in, but wow… What a game!
It improves on everything from the first game. The symbol puzzles are still there but not actually annoying and easy to figure out. It’s so polished and looks amazing. Combat is fun and story is engrossing.
Anyone who is saying this is worse than the first is disingenuous. Top tier! Masterpiece! 10/10
Thank you to Ninja Theory on creating this game.
Loving it, but holy shit the game is intense. I can only play 40 mins at a time.
Absolute sensory overload
I rolled credits on what is something that everyone really should play at least once. I really liked the first game, but this takes it to another level. The graphics and audio are simply mind blowing and untouched by anything else out there. This should definitely win some GOTY categories at least given the superior craft and experience with this. I am excited to play this again or even a couple times with the new game narrator choices that unlock after beating the game too.
Ninja Theory is clearly top notch in their craft, but there is no way that The Coalition wasn’t very involved in the use of Unreal Engine 5. And as others have said, that makes me really excited for a possible Gears 6 reveal as that team are wizards with Unreal.
Great review from Jon! I read the text because I wanted to avoid any spoilers but the review is well written and to the point, nice to see that Jon loved the game! I already have the game downloaded and ready to go so I will probably start playing in the weekend.
I won’t touch on the stupidity and ridiculous nit-picking from the “reviews” of the usual suspects because I don’t want to turn this awesome and positive thread into a rant so I’ll leave that for another thread more suited for that.
You are focusing on the numbers too much, the 963p common resolution is because the game has the black bars aka it renders less pixels vertically, essentially the game on the SX runs at a dynamic 1440p (minus the black bars).
IQ even when compared to a 4K frame buffer holds up real nicely IMO plus the game is heavy on post-processing effects so the IQ won’t be razor sharp anyway regardless of resolution. Even the Series S version looks amazing considering the hardware! NT did a great job on both Xbox versions IMO.
About the frame drops we have both Jon and Jesse saying that they didn’t have any problem with the game’s performance on the SX so it will be more than fine even if there are small frame-drops here and there. In other words we should play more and worry less about the numbers. Game looks absolutely amazing!
i do find some times the image a little fuzzy on my 1080p screen which is surprising tbh
You’re not getting the full resolution of the image, so things like post processing are going to mess with the image more
Ha, glad it’s not just me! I’ve typically been playing it and hour or so at a time.
