Senua's Saga: Hellblade II - Gameplay reveal

You think its going to be fast paced ? I dont think that matches the tone of the game .

this game is not for me. i’ll leave my thoughts at that.

The worst thing of community is that it keeps asking for the same thing again and again because that’s what they are comfortable with

Instead of talking about what was shown, most of the chatter is about what wasn’t shown…

Everything was in gameplay at real time. The entire playthrough was the smooth af.

The game is set in old age with no good weapons and tools… They are fighting a gaint. A sword is not going to work here. Long distance spears is the weapon of choice obviously. And that too a fire arrow.

Everyone is asking where is the improvement shown for gameplay? Well guess what, game has Spear mechanics now (which Hellblade 1 didn’t have). But no one acknowledged it yet and keeping asking for the “sword mechanics” to be shown.

NPCs are working in tendem. Handing down Senua spears one after the other. From the animation inconsistency while recieving a spear from the NPC (which is a good sign) makes it clear that its not all scripted animation scene one after the other, it’s actually a gameplay.

And many more things to talk about here but no, keeping asking for sword mechanics.

Apperently, an armoured hero setting on a hourse with his sword and fighting a dragon 100 times his size (which can fly as well) is able to kill that dragon while being on the ground is considered a good gameplay

No wonder Publishers like Ubisoft, EA and Activision keeps on making the sequels of the same game every year. Cause that’s what people actually want.

Well, I am not seeing it…

Many are even doubting it was true gameplay/real time.

depends on how “fast” you think fast paced would be. I used that in context of the Dark Souls analogy, which I do think it will be faster than simply due to being a more visceral action adventure experience over a very meticulous, slow-paced action RPG. But it won’t be as fast as say, DMC5 or Bloodborne, Sekiro and the like.

huh . I have a feeling that tone wise , its going to be similar to AssCreed Unity in terms of weight and animation heavy as well.

Unity and weight? I think that game was super floaty.

I think the concept and graphics are so next gen that it takes time to process.

The game looks like an evolution of a third person narrative game and the best part is that it’s on Game Pass.

Watched the video for the second time and this time in 4K. Man, I love those animations. Possibly the most life-like so far?

It’s very clear to me that they just wanted to show what’s in store for Xbox in terms of next gen visuals and that this is very early, because they take away control over the character a lot. The first bit when she’s fast walking or slow running towards the giant is clearly gameplay, soon as she hides against the rocks it transitions into cinematic but the visuals remain the same once you control her again, super impressive.

When she runs back towards the others where the trailer ends it goes back into cinematic again. It’s of course possible that this part was solely made for E3 or that it’s a actual part that we’ll have in the full game. But I don’t believe for a second they’ll “take” away the controller like this constantly in the game, nah.

By weight I meant slow or sluggish . I cant describe it properly . Its like sometimes the keys are unresponsive .

oh lol then that’s bad. I want the combat to be super responsive and not take ages to register just for the sake of completing a cool animation that the artists have done. Function > form any day.

Yup. I think Ryse combat can fit in this game as well and will be actually fun to play .

haven’t played that, so I’ll take your word for it.

I have to finish the first one still but this looks hot. Hopefully it’s not too far away.

Just watch a youtube video. Its fast but grounded and responsive .

yeah I’ve seen it but I need to “feel” these games to get a real understanding. But yeah, fast but grounded and responsive is what I exactly want.

I still think Hellblade 2 is a massive Open World of a faithful representation of Iceland

I made a thread on my Twitter of course it is in French but I think it is an experimental Open World created based on procedural tools and machine learning for animations

If that’s going to be the case I hope it will be a interesting world with some nice variety.
