Rumor: Sony wants Final Fantasy games exclusively on PlayStation this generation

I echo other sentiments that the best thing Xbox can do to discourage cheap PlayStation exclusives is to sell lots of Xbox consoles. Bias executives will still exist but it will be harder for them to justify their PlayStation bias when Xbox is on par with PlayStation market share. It will severely undercut Sonys ability to get so many cheap, sometimes even free, exclusives.

My take is that the PS4 is what puts pressure on these deals, mostly for cross-gen games, Square is something apart…

Can you show me a reliable source where Microsoft bid to get FFXIII on the 360? MS didn’t suffer as much during the 360 days because of a few reasons: 1) The 360 was selling very well while the same could not be said for the PS3 in the early days. 2) Cost of HD game development skyrocketed, so the single platform exclusivity we saw during the PS2 days was far less viable. 3) Because of those ballooning development costs, the easier to develop for 360 and its install base became too much of an attractive option for most publishers to ignore.

We didn’t see more games on the 360 because MS fought harder back then. They are pulling for support now like they did back then. Issue is the Xbox is a less attractive platform now than it was during the 360 days, and Sony is willing to pay to keep games off of the Xbox. Money hats aren’t anything new, that is business as usual.

That may be the case and I think the Switch is typically good enough for many Japanese publishers that they don’t need to consider Xbox.

I’m surprised Sony hasn’t made any attempts at trying to acquire Enix or the FF ip. Also doesn’t Sony own some shares in Enix?

That is if those games can run on switch

I’ve always felt that the switch’s lack of power is a blessing in disguise for PlayStation. There’s no way games like final fantasy 7 remake would skip switch if the console could handle them.

Didn’t they sell that back or something years ago

Idk sony loves moneyhatting they will do anything to achieve exclusivity hell all 3 reason they were so dominant last gen is that they were essentially just handed it

They don’t need to, their deals with Square come so easily that they stay at that.

Yes but they’d have to pay a lot more to take away a game like Final Fantasy 7 remake or Final Fantasy 16 if Nintendo had a console that had the power to run them.

I think Playstation/Jim Ryan is trying to take things back to the PS2 days where many third party games were exclusive to Playstation. But… Things have changed since the PS2 days. Xbox is not the new untrusted kid on the block anymore.

Bruh, they have almost 800 employees wth??

That’s more than any Sony or Xbox studio

Yep (they actually are already at 800), and they’re still growing. I believe they are THE largest gaming studio in the UK.

Yep, and this is why I think if Switch 2 is powerful “enough” (close to PS4 Pro is my guess) it could disrupt the PS5 situation in Japan even more. We’ve seen the small devs who used to give PS exclusives for free like Falcom and NIS and such state that Switch has become a necessity for them due to the bad PS situation in Japan, so what about when Switch 2 is a thing and is possibly “good enough” for the AAA JP devs? Like some people think Sony will try to fight for Monster Hunter 6/World 2 to be theirs, but ain’t no way that’s happening if a Switch 2 could run that game at a “good enough” level. Not after how well MH Rise sold on Switch alone (by far Capcom’s best selling single platform game)

They can have them. They are all a narrative mess with varying degrees of annoying gameplay.

Dat Warhammer money…

This is why its even more important MS get more JRPG’s like Persona and DQ

Also Fuck SE for being cowards. Either Sell the IP to Sony and let that be that or make games Multiplat. This timed exclusivity BS is pathetic.

If sony want FF games to be Exclusive. Pay for the damn IP. IF they buy the IP for half a billion or whatever…then fine.

They aren’t going to do replicate that because development was different back then. 3rd parties couldn’t afford to do multiplats especially japanese ones. Now its easy.

Sony are paying a lot for these timed exclusives. Sooner they’ll realise its not worth it

I still think we’ll get FF on Xbox. SE will look at the hardware numbers and lack of consoles and realise they can’t afford to just put games on PS5. Also What are Sony going to do? Keep paying SE to keep FF off Xbox? At what cost? Both consoles will continue to sell out so its just money down the drain.

The PS5 sales won’t be effected either way.

Don’t hate the players hate the game. Squares only doing it because it’s good, relatively risk free automatic cash.

Honestly be more mad that Xbox isn’t paying them off or paying someone else to make square divert resources. If Xbox made a strong move here they could force squares hand.

I get it, it sucks but it’s the fault of Sony and Xbox, not square tbh.
