Redfall Discussion Thread

I don’t like at all how it’s been radio silence since E3, not counting any leaks. I just hope it’s not a sign of bad news, in this case it getting delayed. If it’s needed, it’s needed, but I hope not. Thankfully the wait for June isn’t that long anymore.

I think that’s too much in a short time, I hope they start spreading games out a bit more - they may be all different genres but still.

Part of me thinks this has been internally delayed to spring but we’ll see in a couple of months.

3 games in 3 months is too much lol? I swear some of y’all care more about hype and advertising campaigns more than games.

And you’ll have all the time in the world, they aren’t going anywhere.

I hear you, but it’s exactly what they did last year with Age of Empires IV in October, Forza Horizon 5 in November and Halo Infinite in December. It allows Xbox to basically own the holiday window, which is when console sales are usually at their highest (especially given that Sony didn’t have any major first party games last fall).

I want them to spread games out as well, and Phil has been clear that it’s one of their goals, but I think it’s more about when the games are ready.

I don’t think people realize what no marketing for a new IP actually means, and why it’s very important.

You, me, and people that are interested enough to browse forums like this one, will know everything there is to know about it even if it gets a trailer 24 hours before release, that isn’t the case for the average gamer. When a game gets tidbits of info, small teasers and trailers along a 6 month period, more and more people hear about it, whether it reaches them from popular websites, youtubers, or word of mouth, doesn’t matter. But when there is nothing for a year, if you release a game with that little marketing, you leave it out there to dry.

Nobody is saying that game will be better or worse thanks to it’s marketing, but it’s 100% not going to reach the amount of people it should, being an arkane game, supposedly bigger than deathloop if I remember correctly. So it’s not that “we care about hype more than games”, it’s just that complete silence up until 2 months before the supposed release is almost never good news, whether the game comes out or not. For reference deathloop was announced in 2019, got a gameplay trailer 1 and a half year before release in 2020, and came out september of 2021, make of that what you will.

If Radfall is not delayed, it will probably be released in the last quarter of the year, E3 will be in June, Bethesda and Microsoft will have 4/5 months to work on marketing the game which is enough time.

Any Xbox game releasing this year will have a marketing campaign, and two months is plenty of time to market a game new IP or not.

I hear what you’re saying, I’m just disagreeing.

I don’t think marketing needs to be traditional when you have a built in base of 25+ million users who will get access to the game and spread via word of mouth.

It’d obviously have been better to have shown it plenty and built up hype over the last year, but I think if they have a good E3 showing, get some press previews out there, and it reviews well then it has everything it needs.

Oktober 2022🙋‍♂️

Dishonored was announced July 2011 and in June 2012 received its first gameplay trailer. Game released in October of that year.

Dishonored 2 was announced June 2015 with gameplay shown, released November 2016.

Prey was announced June 12, 2016 with gameplay shown at QuakeCon that same year. Game released in May 2017.

I’m not sure if there were any updates (artwork, screenshots, info) for Dishonored in between announcement and gameplay reveal though.

It seems Redfall will be similar to how the first Dishonored got announced and shown. Gameplay reveal this June and release September or October. I just don’t see a reason to go all “it’s 2023” with this, yet.

On the other hand…do they really want to release that close to Starfield? Yes, I know, Game Pass, but still!

I say 2023 for a few reasons. First, eliminate the dead first half of the year which is now at 2 years. I don’t want it to be 3. Second, I just don’t think the game is ready for a Fall release. My guess is they need another 6 months. Summer 2022 to February is basically your 6 months. Third, I don’t think they will need it this Fall. They’ll have Deathloop in late September, Age of Empires IV for console and Forza Motorsport in October and Starfield on 11/11/22.

People also forget that not everyone will be playing Microsoft games anyway as you’ll have a bunch of Nintendo games, Sony could have GOWR even though im sticking with March 2023 and of course, a bunch of multi-platform games like Gotham Knights which is October 25th by the way, Hogwarts Legacy which I believe releases in mid November, Avatar is definitely releasing because Ubisoft needs at least one major Fall/Holiday game and there could be Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order 2 in November as well as this year’s COD, being MW 2 which will be big.

Last thing Microsoft should do is send a game that’s a new IP, that no one has seen any gameplay of out to die and for what? We need another game for some odd reason? No we don’t. What we do need is to not have an empty first half for 2023 which is where Redfall will fit in perfectly. Even if February/March is packed, it’s not going to match this Fall/Holiday so it wouldn’t matter.

As for marketing, three months is the normal lead time because you need time to send out all the marketing materials to stores and whatnot depending on how big your marketing is. I believe Redfall’s marketing needs to be pretty big especially if it’s planned to be a live service game. Putting it close or next to Starfield and a bunch of other major highly anticipated third party games isn’t exactly the smartest idea unless of course you want the game to potentially be dead on arrival.

Add in Arkane’s games all under performing commercially as well as their other game Deathloop releasing a month earlier and yeah, you get it the hell out of 2022!!!

I know everyone wants to get out of Starfield’s way, but there is going to be a fair amount of folks interested in one and not the other. They are totally different games.

I agree with that. But does MS/Xbox see it that way too? I hope so, because I really would like to play it, I mean it’s Arkane.

I think it’d be nice for them to have a recent-ish FPS on the market going into the Holiday season. Especially if fingers crossed if it’s one with critical acclaim.

I guess they could lien on Halo Season 3 for that though

Yes, but too close to Starfield and they lose people like me. I will check out Redfall but as soon as Starfield drops I’m busy for a long time.

I hope it’s late September/early October at the latest.
