In 2023, having to be connected to the internet to do things does not bother me. Maybe when the apocalypse happens and I want to play Redfall while the world is ending I will be dissapointed I couldn’t play a game one last time. Other than that, I don’t care.
The outcry wasn’t as loud as I thought. Then again, that would require a sacrifice whether its credibility or favor to your legion. Like this for example:
While I don’t get the need for a connection even if you play solo, it’s barely anything for me to worry about. I’m online with Xbox always, anyway. Not making excuses here of course because this does mean if my Internet were to go down and I am playing the game solo it will go down.
Let’s hope Starfield won’t need this, it really shouldn’t. Except for the mods section of course.
If you’re going to play via GP why do you care about this? How does having always online make you jump to lack of vision?
Id honestly love to know how many people bought a Series console and isn’t connected 24/7
Online is probably there for drop in and drop out play in co op and background updates for the game
Has drop in/out MP been talked about at all? I just assumed it would be invite only
But now that I think about it, if that’s what they are doing then I could see why they’d just do it this way
I also keep my Xbox connected at all times, so it’s not the immediate impact to myself that bothers me about this. It’s all the unnecessary complications it adds.
For example: games preservation. I can (and frequently do) play 30 year old games without any effort at all. Will the Redfall servers still be running in 30 years?
There are several other concerns that are often handwaved away by people who for some reason want to defend a practice that gives people less choice about when and where to play games, so I won’t go into those in this post, but I can spell it out for you if you want.
I am incensed about the required online connectivity! I will simply download the game from my online digital distribution service in a show of protest! DOWN WITH THE INTERNET!!!
Don’t get me wrong, I used to despise the whole online only stuff myself, hell just last gen when the first Hitman game had it I was extremely annoyed
But over time I just gradually started caring less and less, I was online all the time anyway, games are constantly updated now making offline only gaming impossible and I pretty much only play games through GP so I just don’t have much reason to care anymore
I do think the game preservation is a legit complaint, in MS/Xbox case however, it’s not like they haven’t shown they are good when it comes to servers
I can still jump on Gears of War and play online, well if there was anyone actually playing that is and that came out almost 20 years ago, on a marketplace and network that wasn’t built for the future the way it is now and didn’t have a service like GP to support
If Gears 1 can last this long, I’m not too worried about a game like Redfall in 2023 being able to be played that long from now in
I completely understand connection concerns in places with things like limited speeds, data caps, connectivity issues, etc.
Personally, I have been persistently connected to the Internet for over 20 years now. We got cable internet when I was a Jr in High School in 1999 and Ive never looked back.
The reverse is happening too… People who attacked GT7 over it and then defend Redfall doing it.
I already mentioned why I am against this. If I am playing single player and then my internet drops for a minute or two (happens to me randomly, usually once a day), and I am then returned to the title screen, I won’t be playing this for long.
Right. As for me, not thrilled about it but it is what it is.
Sure. For co-op that makes sense. Not for single player.
There’s probably a reason for it
I’ve had internet flickers 2 or 3 times when playing MH Rise with friends so far. It was not a huge deal because the game just continues with me in the quest alone so I can finish it off. But if I am playing Redfall, alone, fighting some boss or something, and then then I have an internet flicker and am booted to the title screen… Yeah, I’d stop playing, it’ll just happen again.
The first reason that comes to mind is microtransactions. Let’s not forget that the leaked build had them. Call it worst case scenario but that’s the main reason I think of for games being iffy with letting you play offline.
Edit: What a coincidence. I had an Internet flicker while arguing about this.

That will be your chance.
Who cares? I’ve been always online since like 2011 LOL
Haha, I agree completely. I can’t even remember the last time I wasn’t connected, like c’mon this is not an issue.
I’m convinced most of it is conceeeeeerrrn.
