[PLEASE READ STAFF POST] Microsoft says they have committed to Sony that they will keep Call of Duty and other titles on Playstation "beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love."

Yes and plenty of content in gamepass will be gamepass only. But gamepass like Netflix won’t be locked to hardware. That’s not hard to understand.

If you think all the places Netflix is available. Long term. That’s what Microsoft wants gamepass to be. And places where there is already a suitable control method connected are likely to have the most traction.

I understand that. That’s why I don’t expect Microsoft to release the mainline COD on Playstation. Bunch of legacy stuff like Overwatch 2, Diablo 4 (maybe), Warzone 1-2, maybe WOW, COD2023, COD2024 support will be available still. Microsoft is also collecting various legacy IPs to be prepared to the streaming future so that Disney+ IP bank and Netflix energy is a must for that.

Almost everyone I know who has a PS4/5 doesn’t have it because of exclusives, but because it’s the default console that’s sold and marketed in the region for decades.

If only there’s a “Most played games” to be exhibit A for your statement. That said I’m pretty sure that is the case with any of them. The market leader is where one will go.

I would say market presence too. It still boggles my mind how Xbox 360 did so many things right but later lost everything of it :exploding_head:

Yeah, I just didn’t want to open another vector to argue about haha

Don Mattrick took over and aim for a console for all and by all I mean general audience that doesn’t do gaming.

But that’s ok. They for some reason lost their marketing capabilities and localizations too (not sure how it was with localizations on Xbox 360 though). If the rumors about Windows division are true - it will be confirmed later as Xbox Marketing team should be under Phil right now - then Windows division was really bad guys and I will lose all the respect to them.

Arrogance and stupidity. Same thing happened for PlayStation where they went from their best selling console(PS2-150m units sold) to their worst selling console(PS3-85m units sold)

I don’t know about the whole Windows division rumor but it wouldn’t surprise me. At the very least, Xbox now has their control on marketing, which is great, so we can only hope the push comes real soon.

Well we know from rumors that last gen Xbox division was under Windows and was heavily underfunded. And only recently one of the marketing team members posted on Twitter that they are happy to work under Phil again now. And another rumor that all the issues with Game Pass are related to the infighting between Windows and Xbox team.

Now that all these obstacles supposed to be removed, we will see if there gonna be a difference or not.

That’s true. Xbox was like a side project alas Google Stadia in a way. Now, it’s clear that it’s its own division thanks to Satya’s approach, so we can expect a lot of improvements towards gaming, from budget to marketing.

The reaoson I have a PS5 is definitely only for exclusives. Hardly touched it as Xbox is now my main.

Same here but not everyone is us. It’s like how people in internet said CoD is dead and they won’t buy it so the sale will tank to the point of no longer the number 1 seller in US. We’re so minority in compare to outside.

i always thought marketing was under a specific 'marketing department, at MS so no matter how much Phil wanted games marketed, if marketing didnt think it was worth it, they wouldnt do it.

I believe pc gamepass is in similar position (it falls under MS store team, instead of Phil)

hopefully phils promotion to CEO of gaming (mentioned in acti press release) means they now come in house

I guess that the unrelenting discussion for the next 5 years is going to be basically, “I want MS to do A, B, C, D, and E to make me feel better about my console purchase, stop games from skipping Xbox, and reduce Sony moneyhats” Microsoft will mostly likely do A and B, and folks pissed about C, D, and E not happening will talk about it every single day.

Yea, I get what you are saying. I will say also say that I’ve been gaming for 30 years and pretty much every console I have ever bought was always, at least initially about the exclusives, that also goes for any friends or acquaintances I have met over those years. The only reason any of them bought either Playstation or Xbox was for the exclusives. The only time I made a purchase that wasnt about exclusives was when Xbox dropped the ball last gen. I was so disappointed by how weak the original Xbox One was that I had to switch to Playstation.

I obviously appreciate that purchasing decisions vary by Country and may very well come down to what Country you live in and the general mind share, especially when parents may be the ones making a purchase for their children.
