Why would MS pay 70 BILLION to just get early access to a beta ? Lmao surely you’re kidding…
You know the doomposters don’t care about exclusive xbox IP already confirmed to be in development.
Sony just bought Bungie and announced they’d stay multi platform. They put MLB the show on gamepass. I mean Sony didn’t exactly have a huge choice with MLB but still. The world is changing. Console wars just don’t exist anymore.
Fallout 76 got a free month perk for the subscription and ESO got nothing.
I’m not sure about the rest but nothing on that statement says that COD will be multiplat after 1-2 years, will they continue to support and release content, I imagine yes via Warzone and they will get it to switch as well, but the new games I think will be exclusive.
Their whole statement was even when the contracts expire we won’t disable COD servers that was basically it for each level headed individual.
Any Blizzard game is sure to be a live service game, they basically invented it.
I agree with this.
People need to get out of this boomer mindset of the “da console warz” what is important for Microsoft is building up Gamepass which includes Xbox cloud gaming to reach a larger audience a be more future proof.
Exclusives are not a big deal for most people anyway.
The best selling PS4 Exclusive game is Spider-man at about 20 mill copy’s sold out of console that has sold 110+? Mill.
The average normie console gamer is buying cod, fifa/madden, GTA5 and whatever flavour of the month free to play game.
The thing is in both of those cases Sony did not do that willingly. That’s the difference. It was not olive branch or anything else.
I just think you’re missing the bigger picture on how this puts Microsoft in a position to (i) buy more content and IP for Game Pass, (ii) get on a path to number one in gaming revenue and game subscription service, (iii) make an even stronger case for Game Pass and a Xbox console being the best value in gaming, and (iv) be an industry leader that shapes the gaming landscape for the next couple of decades at the very least.
Xbox is and was NEVER going to beat PlayStation at its own game of console wars. Consoles as we know them have limited time. Streaming services are here and are next in line.
The future of game streaming and subscription services presents an opportunity where Microsoft has everything they need to take the crown. It’s going to become increasingly harder for any third-party to want to skip Xbox because they are on track to have the most popular service.
It makes all the sense in the world to try to grow franchises they just picked up, even on rival consoles. That builds and maintains communities that will be poised to migrate to Game Pass over time. It leaves less oxygen for potential emerging franchises that would otherwise have opportunity to take hold in their absence.
I would just ask you to change your perspective and outlook. It’s not about the console war, forget about it, and dream a little bigger, darling.
For xbox users they will get day1 on gamepass, which can be a good selling point of service. Also, Xbox gamers would most likely get stuff like early access beta, some cosmetic DLC, and maybe a few other COD things. I feel other than that it will be pretty similar experience with PS5 version anx Series X/S. Also they paid $70billion due to stuff like AKB generating tons of revenue via microtransactions, and they have tons of studios . They didn’t acquire them just for COD of course
Console wars will still exist as long as Sony pay 3rd parties to skip Xbox for 1 year or more.
That tactic has a limited shelf life. With Game Pass as the number one game streaming service it’s going to eventually turn the tables on that whole approach and Sony is going to find itself having to pay a lot more to skip Xbox or Game Pass. Pubs and devs are going to go to Xbox first and be weary of skipping it or showing preferential treatment to Sony.
Minecraft is also not a technically taxing game. CoD aims for photorealism and will absolutely leverage the XSX GPU advantages over PS5.
Yup. The console wars are over, now comes the subscription service wars. Game Pass is becoming the platform.
Yup, this is going to be a blood bath over the next decade on who gets what
In fairness, MS is trying to chase off the regulators here. Not fully kindness of their hearts either. Depends on their definition of “popular” ultimately.
This statement was clearly for regulators i wouldn’t be surprised if this made it more likely to be passed off
How similar is this to the “first or best on Xbox” quote from the Bethesda time? I’m sure it’ll come up during the investigation that a possibility of making everything exclusive breaks their rules or not and Microsoft might get the ok to make everything new exclusive. Just to maybe ease the doom and gloom people.
I think the value of the IPs is also a very important factor here.
Making games exclusive makes them very beneficial to the exclusive platform in the short term, but it loses in market share and impact going forward.
And some games lose more than others. COD for example will suddenly lose more than half of its population.
Also some games benefit more from going multi-platform than others. MP games experience benefts from more population.
Also some games real strength is in their popularity, which makes it very difficult for others to compete.
It’s very very difficult to compete with games like COD and FIFA. But if they were pulled from most consoles, that leaves the doors open for another IP to fill the gap.
I think MS is trying to find a balance where they increase Game Pass value without devaluing their strongest weapons in the gaming market.
These weapons will be needed for a much harder fight than console wars.
