[PLEASE READ STAFF POST] Microsoft says they have committed to Sony that they will keep Call of Duty and other titles on Playstation "beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love."

It’s a good move. Long term, years and years from now, everything will be streaming services and you’ll look back and understand why it was a smart play to get all of these games on Game Pass / xCloud.

This also makes it seem like Microsoft isn’t walking the line on anti-competition and I expect they’ll make even more big acquisitions in due time, with less scrutiny as they fatten up lol

Disappointing news, because I wanna see Xbox winning the war (lol), but I’m getting the new games on Game Pass anyway, so in the end it doesn’t really matter like that Linkin Park singer sings…

This just once again makes me disapointed in xbox despite how awesome gamepass. At least with Sony I pretty much know what im getting. After I beat Dying light 2 on xbox I have to think hard on where im going to start buying my games.Do I get elden ring on ps5 since im starting to feel like eventually all xbox games will come there. This who Activision deal to me was xbox really locking up exclusives and getting people into its ecosystems for its fans and im starting to feel like they care less and less about those who have been with them since the start. I feel the same way you do.

The ABK acquisition was made with GamePass in mind first and foremost. Microsoft is all in on GamePass/xcloud. We won’t know what this means for Xbox for several years but they are clearly targeting GamePass expansion in the near to medium term.

It makes sense for Microsoft to keep CoD multiplatform. Making a superior Xbox version with lots of added perks to draw new players to the ecosystem. It’s also better for CoD’s brand by preventing an opening for competition to take advantage of CoD’s absence on PS’s ecosystem.

Microsoft being the good guy here, I like this move but i wont like what sony will do.

Sony will not lose their biggest game so they will have enough money to moneyhat 3rd party exclusives.

And when spartacus launch, I can see sony doing subscription exclusive nonsense.

What a better marketing for your service than annoucing that GTA6 or RDR 3 or the next RE or next SE/capcom game is subscription exclusive and you can play day one paying as low as whatever spartacus will cost.

Brian Smith directly compares the ABK deal to the Minecraft acquisition. This is officially not like Bethesda.

It was obvious already, really.

Not that this is like Minecraft, but that it’s not like Bethesda, but everything being just like Minecraft is kinda not great IMO.

Wanna just note that contracts are signed to release games on a platform. That is what the comments noted there are referring to, not the deal for marketing rights. You won’t see marketing rights anywhere but with Xbox once any existing marketing rights agreement is fulfilled.

finally more clear answer.

You would think so, because even I at that point would be confused if PlayStation continued to market CoD after the current contract lol.

This just leads to Microsoft being more aggressive with 3rd party day 1 game pass launches, no? And they get more $$ from the sales to reinvest in the platform. I don’t see this somehow still feeding Sony’s timed exclusivity. Removing COD may exacerbate it more than leaving it on tbh

So this would basically mean no exclusives at all right? Or am I taking it to literall?

The main problem I see is that it will raise the discussions about TES and potentially even Starfield again.

I guess it was meant for COD.

Imo MS wants to be both a platform holder and a 3rd party publisher.

No, he compares it to Mojang/Minecraft in that he wants to get it to as many people as possible. Says “they’d like” to release on Nintendo and “they’d like” to release on Playstation, so I guess its either gamepass or nothing.

Then that would mean Sony and Nintendo possibly agreed to Game Lass and ecosystem on their system?

I simply do not understand the logic behind this line of thinking. They’re spending more than ever on the platform, how does that hurt you investing in it as a customer?

Im 100% sure will still get exclusives. This seems to focused on COD and maybe Overwatch

But new Blizzard IP? Absolutely Xbox PC only

New Tony Hawk, Crash and Spyro? I believe so as those games arent big enough to be among the most popular Activision games
