[PLEASE READ STAFF POST] Microsoft says they have committed to Sony that they will keep Call of Duty and other titles on Playstation "beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love."

Sure, that also goes both ways though. There are legitimately console warrish posts on the forum and we can call them out along with people being too over the top in backseat moderating things when a conversation like this is happening.

To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation through the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have committed to Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo’s successful platform. We believe this is the right thing for the industry, for gamers and for our business.

Upon further reading, there is nothing in the statement that states all future Call of Duty titles will appear on PlayStation. This may very well be Microsoft’s desire, but they left enough wiggle room in their statement that if they want to leverage COD (and others) against Sony, they can easily pivot to “Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation in the form of Warzone 2.”

The only reason Bungie isn’t is because that was a literal deal breaker and Sony wants them for live service stuff so they were willing to concede that….

I don’t understand Microsoft. Why Activision can release its games on PlayStation and Bethesda can’t? As an Xbox owner, I am disappointed because such exclusive games as Crash, Spyro, Diablo would strengthen the Xbox. And now I think it’s a matter of time when the games from Bethesda will be released on PlayStation, and in that case I don’t see the point for myself in Xbox.

I think we have said everything there is to say.

It’s okay to have concerns, but don’t bash your head on something you have no control on. We’ll see what happens. Only time will tell.

So I guess Fallout and Elder Scrolls are guaranteed coming to PlayStation

This seems to be a bit heavy on the negative assumptions side. This statement today is completely in line with what Phil said at the time of the announcement. Also, if Bethesda releases elsewhere for $60 or $70 and it’s a part of game pass on xbox how is that not still a compelling argument to own an Xbox?

What?

I understand they had to say it now, but wow such a bad timing, with MS not getting any 1st party game anytime soon for Xbox, and while Sony is doing showcase for GT and releasing a couple AAA’s in 1-2 months.

They should learn from Sony there, they almost always announce bad news right before some Showcase / game release.

And this will scale poorly on next Sony’s showcase where they’ll announce the next Square’s temp exclusive, next Kojima’s AAA… and when they acquire their next Studio, which won’t take long i guess.

It’s kinda disappointing but not surprising, after all Phil Spencer said a few times already that they’d like to put Gamepass on Playstation, which is a move that would increase their sub numbers, but kill Xbox as a console at the same time.

Well, obviously there has to be a degree of objective moderation on both sides… console warrior nonsense should obviously have no place on the forum but people shouldn’t be allowed to belittle every argument which maintain the slightest critique (which have already been highlighted by Klobrille) at a whim without repercussion…

Until Phil Spencer has his round table chat with Acti-Blizzard there is simply no way to know how many or how few games will remain multiplatform or exclusive.

I don’t see any belittling, feel free to flag any posts that you think contain it.

That’s just spreading unfounded FUD at this point.

They’ve said repeatedly Zenimax games will be console exclusive. All the while Mojang games weren’t.

Now suddenly everything MS first party is going multiplatform? That’s not a level headed argument at all.

So you think MS aims to have Blizzard make ‘unpopular titles’ to lock down exclusively? This is not some vague PR statement. It is part of a 1500 word blog post going in depth on the new way they are looking to do business. Desperately clinging to words like ‘desire’ or ‘popular titles’ just makes ppl look dumb. Don’t do it. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment.

Also, instead of dismissing the points I’m making out of hand as you have on the topic in the past, you should engage with them and consider that just maybe I’m not as out of the loop as many here might like to imagine, as today’s news should demonstrate pretty clearly.

Yisss. Give each team 4 years and have only two teams on it. Games would then hit every other year. Might make interesting campaigns again if they do that! Frees up the 3rd major studio too.

No. They made it clear today with a blog post. Read the blog post: Adapting ahead of regulation: a principled approach to app stores - Microsoft On the Issues

The problem is what dictates something to be hyperbole or a good-faith argument? People here and (I mean the community figures) seem to think any negative take on MS is in bad faith or motivated by console-warring. They act like Xbox is done proving themselves while the truth/reality is to the contrary. it is like what Klob said Xbox is acting as if they’re the leaders while in reality they barely compete with PC in most markets let alone consoles.

I was so happy about the ATVI deal not because I give two-shits about CoD, but because it meant Satya was truthful when he said “we’re all in gaming”. now I understand, they’re all in gaming YES. but I am not sure if they are all in Xbox or ever will be.

I know you will see the last paragraph as hyperbole, but that is not on me, it is on MS for making me question their every move. who launches a console with ZERO exclusives? who starts to make 3rd party partnerships after the launch of a console?

and no, I don’t give a shit about the plastic box, I have repeatedly said I don’t even own one for that matter. but what if gamepass doesn’t work? we all know they were worried about the service growth in the summer prior to E3. what about Phil talking about GamePass being only one revenue stream? why not do what the Ori developer said and become 3rd party publisher and let me enjoy all of my games and services on PS5, or maybe on PC with PS not seeing you as a threat?

I guess Candy Crush will not be an Xbox exclusive after all :frowning:

I really hope so. I’m much more interested in the smaller purchases, Zenimax included, and what Xbox can do together with and for good devs who would thrive as first party studios. Buying a huge shitshow like Acti-Blizz does absolutely nothing for me gaming wise, and with this news appearantly nothing else either.

I want them to get studios like Asobo, IOI, Neon Giant, Techland, Bloober, Avalanche etc. Studios with massive potential who would benefit immensely form being first party.

I have read it, it doesn’t say anything about releasing new AB games on Playstation, only they will “continue to make them available” like what they did with Zenimaxs games.

Looks like they are well on their way to release all their games on every system. Makes no sense to give Activision preferential treatment. I fully expect Bethesda + XGS to release native ps5/switch versions in the future.

Really makes it dumb to invest into your library on Xbox.
