[PLEASE READ STAFF POST] Microsoft says they have committed to Sony that they will keep Call of Duty and other titles on Playstation "beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love."

Think it has more to do with them not leveraging anything while sony continues to money hat 25% of the industry :sob:. Like goddamn how do you have the best servers in the world and now the biggest ips and not leverage them to get something out of it besides short term money. So much for no need making concessions a few days ago lol

I get some people in here are frustrated but you can’t be serious with this take. Call of Duty is a massive get for Game Pass, People go nuts when games like Outriders, B4B, R6 Extraction, A Plague Tale hit GP day 1 even though those games are still on PlayStation, but Call of Duty isn’t a needle mover

That’s what I took from it as well. Microsoft views those two companies as existential threats to theirs, and this puts the boot into them a little during a period where they are getting heat from regulators. Plus it helps with their services getting onto their platforms.

Yeah. People saying Capcom or Asobo or whatever would have been better don’t realize how much revenue Activision is going to pull in for them. It’s a business. Money is all that matters.

because cod is a constant money train with MTX, and beth games are typically buy once (with the occasional expansion)

Or the parent that kid wants a new system and all they play is COD and Fortnite. Now they can buy a series S and Gamepass.

I mean Call of Duty, Fortnite, Halo etc will be on the back of every Series S and it will sell like hot cakes.

Well, I hope we’ll get another round table soon, and that Phil will tell us about all the cool exclusives this deal will provide to the Xbox user base, and that’s the last thing I’ll say on the matter.

also MS won’t make exclusives to the service, you can still buy it unlike Apple arcade and netflix.

maybe we’ll have the same reasonable and collected reaction when Dragon’s Dogma 2 & Street Fighter 6 inevitably don’t land on Xbox (and maybe PC) for an undisclosed amount of time, if ever

I’m sad that people continuously dismiss arguments for console warring, when no one wants Playstation to die or Nintendo to perish, we just want a fair treatment from those two, you don’t see those two actively putting games on Xbox, actually it’s the contrary.

And that’s why this is disappointing not because we want others to suffer we just want Xbox to be big enough these practices stop being practices.

Anyway I’m done with this thread now, the cavalry of the Xbox does no evil is here and everyone who goes against it gets a quirky label.

I had not thought of it like this myself and you could be onto something here.

We know Sony can’t afford the big pubs, I mean we can’t ever 100% know for sure but pretty sure. So if this means MS can more easily acquire those pubs, meaning day and date GTA 6 (for example) on Game Pass, hell yeah.

However, we also know Sony isn’t sitting still and more studio acquisitions by them will be announced this year and best believe we’ll see these games leave Xbox, I have very little doubts of that.

Everything falling under the label “console warring” is so tiresome….

I’m not gonna sit and actively cheer if PS/Switch or whoever doesn’t have “game X” on their platform but I’m not gonna shed any tears either or act concerned…

That’s the cost of investing in an ecosystem…and this idea that “people are having things taken from them” is laughable…everyone has every option to play any exclusive they want. Just like if I want to play Horizon or GoW or whatever, I can do it…

Or maybe he was referring to actual concessions because it seems as if they decided to keep CoD (and other popular MP titles) multiplatform from the beginning :man_shrugging:t2:

“It doesn’t matter” and “it’s the most important thing” Are both extremes that are wrong. Exclusives are a part of it. You’re also comparing service exclusives vs hardware exclusives. As far as we know, MS will consider all the IP that they have to be only exclusive on their service; as in no other service will have it. And who knows if their release on Playstation will be on condition of being through Game Pass on PS/Switch.

Xbox has grown and sold their best ever without having big exclusive game for like a year, y’all should’ve learned that exclusives aren’t everything but only a part of it, a part that XBOX is also investing in BIG in case y’all forgot.

While I personally don’t think this is the best move for Xbox, this’ll most likely take some heat off of MS when it comes to the increasing regulatory oversight. I mean the title says it all: “Adapting ahead of regulation”

As Rand Al Thor has said “MS will do whatever they have to do to get this deal over the line”

There sure seems to be a lot of folk invested in others not getting to play games.

“but sony moneyhat exclusives…they have tried to kill xbox”

Don’t stoop to that level, more people are getting to play more games on more devices. Awesome.

The biggest thing from all this is that MS are all in on gaming. It is an ecosystem that people can invest in knowing that it is here to stay with awesome games in the pipeline.

Maybe in a few years when GP is on Playstation that XSS in the other room becomes a PS5

Diablo 4 has already been announced for PS4. Players of Overwatch 1 will play with 2, so it makes sense to sell them too.

COD at this point has the main releases having a synergy with Warzone. I personally say make it exclusive, but by keeping it on PS, it can ensure a COD killer never materializes.

At the same time, they can totally change up the COD model. They could say release a multiplayer specific version everywhere. Maybe make a campaign available only on Xbox/PC. Maybe make a dedicated zombies game only on Xbox/PC.

After this, if I see there any kind of business opportunity for MS I will call for it …

Put Gamepass on Nintendo via streaming

Buy valve for steam, handheld and VR

Buy take 2 for gta Gamepass

I wouldn’t take no for an answer from anyone

It’s all about business now. Console strategy has no place now.

Eh, could a moved the needle a bit if they were exclusive, but i guess MS are smarter than us in regards to this stuff.

Based on the wording, i guess COD warzone and Overwatch (n maybe WoW console if it exists) are the “multiplat” titles they are referreing to.
