PlayStation: Xbox's Call of Duty offer was "inadequate on many levels" (Jim Ryan says Xbox offered 3 years beyond current deal)

Nah I disagree with this. Sony is able to use their market power to get disproportionately cheaper deals and potentially even disuade any publisher from partnering with Microsoft like we saw with Elden Ring/Bandai.

That is a huge monpolistic flag and something these commissions should want to disrupt.

Sure, I’m just saying that Phil’s tweet makes it clear he felt spending his budget internally was more helpful than spending it on SFV on Xbox. Now that he doesn’t have such budget constraints things are clearly playing out differently, to say the least.

True, but we don’t know what budget he had at that time, remember Killer Instinct was developed by Iron Galaxy team, which is a smaller studio in comparison to Capcom.

Iron Galaxy: Number of employees: 250

Capcom: Number of employees: 2,832

And who knows how much was the total cost of the development of street fighter 5, but am pretty sure it was a lot more than what Killer Instinct cost.

I remember reading at the time that the bulk of the game was actually done by Dimps (309 staff according to Wiki).

Capcom is obviously formed up of lots of individual teams, so only one of those may have worked on SF (not the 2800+), but I read they weren’t too involved for example:

Didn’t know that, thanks for sharing the info, I’ve still believe the price that Capcom asked for Street Fighter 5 must have been astronomical, Street Fighter series is more mainstream than Killer Instinct and sure Phil prioritized the budget he had at that time, I’ve imagine he had to be super pissed, when this opportunity came on and ask for more money and Myerson that was in charge at that time, denied to him.

Yep I suspect you’re right. I just did a little more digging and it’s Capcom U.S.A., Inc. which are responsible for Street Fighter.

They appear to be a smaller team but if Dimps are doing the bulk of the work it makes sense.

Perhaps Dimps could be an acquisition target for KI? It would be similar to what Amazon did to Microsoft.

I appreciate the response Daniel.

I do acknowledge there are some positive notes to removing additional platforms when it comes to workload for all parties involved and while I also agree there are several people in the forum that do not intend to come off as bad actors on the premise, some have admitted to indulging the idea of Sony gamers having these games taken away. While my stance remains the same on wanting CoD to be multiplat, I’m perfectly fine with people disagreeing with me on the issue at hand. Life would be boring if we all agreed on everything, right?

I agree the timed exclusivity and partnership deals suck, but I do get a little tired of people taking it one-sided. Sure, Xbox’s are less egregious usually and the double standards are very well clear when it comes to the public going over Xbox for some of their deals but not Sony’s, but they still happen.

Now, I will say I did have a major issue with having things I didn’t say used against me. I won’t say names because I honestly don’t care anymore (and I shouldn’t have in the first place) and that definitely had escalated my need for some offline time (including some real-life factors).

With that said, I think I learned the lesson of not getting involved in these kind of threads anymore. I remember the Zenimax one was a nightmare and this one was a bit too. Nothing any of the mods had done wrong and (like I’ve said previously) people are entitled to their opinions, I just think these kind of topics don’t allow open discussion at times because people are willing to get heated right away.

With that said, nothing but love for the people in this thread (including the ones I disagreed with) and apologies to anyone that thought I was getting out of hand. A lots been going on and I shouldn’t be taking that out on anyone here. <3

Appreciate it man. As we can tell, by the end I was a bit heated too. Although that happened more so after I read what I said. lmao

I remember another tweet by Phil where he basically apolagized for not getting SF6, acknowledged how much this sucked for the fans and that he was going to make up for it, some how. Sounds to me like he was a bit frustrated about the whole situation too.

Good, get fk’d Jim

How much do you reckon it would cost MS to lock down console exclusivity to CoD for, say, 10 years? A fraction of the ABK deal, right?

That’s the alternative world MS should be threatening, frankly.

Then GTA6…

They should lockdown cod after agreement period None of this 3 year grace period crap.

Ms need to nail the hammer down on sony. No more mr nice guys.

What I mean is, if Sony are pushing for the deal to fail then the alternative being they use a fraction of that cash to make the situation worse.

Perhaps seeing OW marketed within Xbox showcasing a new character for Japanese audience should have triggered Sony on how they’re being unfair, but CoD priority has blinded them I guess. It’s going to get a lot worse once the acquisition is complete.

I don’t think they care about OW2 because it will stay on PS anyway due to being F2P. But they rely heavily on their “Home of COD” branding.

Basically, money. I get it. They should be fine with other games. Learn it from Nintendo.

I’ve come to the conclusion that MS made a good faith offer to Sony and that after 3 years rather than yank COD off Playstation, MS would like to sit down and negotiate a new deal for a few more years for COD on Playstation, they do the same thing with Minecraft. Its all about having leverage and the biggest bargaining chips

This idea of a “consent decree” that MS would have to make COD on Playstation is one of the biggest myths and piles of crap

No, regulators don’t have the ability to tell Microsoft “hey you have to make COD for Playstation” that’s absolutely something MS can squash in court

Ports cost money, time, there is no scenario where MS would have to foot the bill to make a product that would benefit their competitor, that’s the exact opposite of competition …are regulators going to foot the bill for making a Playstation version of COD? No? Then it isn’t happening and it would absolutely go up in flames in the court room.

If MS continues COD on Playstation it’ll absolutely be because they want to and not because anyone is forcing them to.
