The thumbnail from Fun Speculation’s XUP’s podcast is really good.
Regarding Sony’s switch to more GAAS as their 200 million dollar projects are not sustainable; wouldn’t dropping everything in PS+ Premium or whatever the hell it’s called and getting more subscribers fix that problem? I mean, let’s say MS has 30 million GamePass subscribers at 10$ a pop (not counting Ultimate but rounding the 16/10$ as well as the « millions » that do the gold conversion trick (I know there’s only dozens of us!)) that would bring in 300 million dollars a month, or 3.6 billion a year. Now of course you have to pay EA for that Play integration into Ultimate, but you could afford 4 AAA 200 million dollars titles per year with that and still have 2.8 billion to play with!
I mean, it doesn’t take into account operating cost but still, that is a huge chunk of money and more than enough. Very few GAAS will do 3+ billion a year Fortnite money! In fact I’d say Sony probably will never reach that amount as even Bungie can’t! That subscription money though doesn’t require lightning in a bottle and with their user base would probably be very easy to reach.
Just my 2 cents, but I think Jim Ryan needs to read my post!
I agree that their AAA blockbusters are too damn expensive but that is on Sony. Do I really need to see ants running up a tree or this other shit that im never ever going to notice while playing unless pointed out to me? Hell no. Uncharted started it but it was truly TLOU 2013 that pretty much set up Sony in their current path and direction.
I agree with the rest too. This is why they should acquire more development studios especially those that have experience and knowledge in online co-op/multiplayer live service games. I prefer Sony to stay with what they’re known for and are great at but that’s not happening so while I personally want all those live service games to die, there is a negative to that and that’s if the outside studios like Deviation Games fail, Sony will look to their internally owned studios which will eventually spill over to Insomniac, Guerrilla, Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Bend Studio and Naughty Dog. In fact, it’s already started.
I’m a pure single player console gamer and while I will play and complete a Division and Outriders, it’s only because I can play through them fully solo. No human and AI companions required. If Sony does a game or two like this which I do believe the Horizon stylized game could end up being, then I will definitely give it a look but at the same time, I wish they would just lower their budgets, cut out some of the fluff and just stay with what they’re known for.
We’re definitely seeing all of this play out in real time though. I have said for years that Sony is going to copy Microsoft. It’s just that they’re like a decade or so behind.
Yep. As a massive Ubisoft fanboy, they keep trying this shit as well and once a publisher goes down this route, they won’t stop until they have a success or two. Ubisoft does have Siege and to a lesser extent Division 2 but they don’t have the COD/Fortnite level game where it’s just fucking massive.
One issue for publishers is that gamers do demand better looking games and whatnot and in order to get that, the publishers have to spend more money and eventually, they’ll all hit a ceiling.
So…basically Game Pass ?
Apart from gameplay info, says there is no exclusivity as of this moment, no window for a release, and that it went in development early 2022, so I doubt this is a 2024 game. But it is coming to Xbox
Just to let you know, Assassin’s Creed Mirage was originally planned as an expansion for Valhalla but Ubisoft decided to make it into it’s own standalone game which to be honest, makes me happy because Valhalla was a disappointment for me despite me rating it an 8/10 and yes, that is a disappointment considering the fact that I rated Origins and Odyssey a 9.5/10 each. Love those fucking games.
AC might be one of the few places where our tastes overlap. I didn’t really care for the battles in Odyssey or Valhalla, but I was able to change some of the settings in Valhalla to help make it mostly more of a stealth game and allow 1 hit assassination on most enemies, so aside from castle raids and stuff I could play it how I wanted. Origins probably is my favorite of those three though because of the poison darts
Valhalla was strictly a main story campaign game for me. All I did otherwise were the viewpoints for fast travel and the Raids to build up the Settlement but it didn’t feel good to play at all. It felt less fluid and responsive than Origins and Odyssey did which was a turn off for me. Hated the skill tree. Horrible. Power level is so freaking stupid. Same shit as levels.
I loved the stealth, melee and ranged combat in Origins/Odyssey. I was stealth killing a lot of enemies. Man, I love those two games. Only Black Flag ranks ahead of them for me.
You were trying to play Valhalla like old AC and yeah, you could change it like you did but the last three games to me are more action RPG based than stealth even though I didn’t have any complaints with stealth in Origins/Odyssey.
So, nothing from what they showed is actually real. I think this is one of those “hyped” games that will ultimately disappoint the hell out of people when it releases 3+ years from now.
Yeah, but what is more concerning, is the fact that Sony actually put this game in their showcase. I’m not gonna call it a move of desperation but one year of development? I don’t know seems weird.
Yeah, but it seemed to have worked for them. Xbox and Playstation are always looking for interesting looking games to put in their showcases, and I guess they saw Dark Souls Ninjas and said “That’s the one!”.
so it was all smoke and mirrors just as some people suspected.
I’ve been told development now takes 6-7 years, so release in 2028-29?
Interesting games is one thing, but a game that’s been in development for a little over a year? Even if this game does come out eventually it could literally be for next gen.
That game play information sounds terrible. Like there is a ‘do something cool’ button instead of the the player actually having control over stuff.
The only game I imagine was actually held back was death stranding 2. I can easily see it at summer games fest due to kojimas relationship with keighly.
For Xbox maybe the next gen fallout 4 update and a fallout tv show trailer.
The point is the switch to GAAS is not necessary considering subscription services can definitely bring in enough money to cover the cost of AAA games. And Sony says they want to release 2 AAA games per calendar year, which their subscriber base would be able to cover easily even if they did bring their games day 1 in the service.
Reality is no matter what Sony tries to say, to switch to GAAS isn’t at all necessary in order to help with the rising cost of games.
They still have a duty to their share holders though, who must be looking at Fortnite and others and wondering why arguably the best producer of video games is not involved in that lucrative market.
if it started in dev in 2022 from a normally mobile only studio, if it’s any good it’s a 2026 or later game
Yeah to be honest when I posted the article I had only read the paragraph that talked about exclusivity, reading the rest my hype kinda disappeared for this game anyway, sounds iffy af.
