Playstation is making a new subscription service, codenamed Spartacus, merging PS PLUS and NOW. First Party Games not expected to be Day One

No day one releases? lol talk about a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes Game Pass so good.

Typical Sony trying to play catch-up but getting stuck in their own greed, knowing the drones need naught more to mindlessly cough up more money, on the way.

It’s the fact they are playing catch-up that is so interesting though. Get back to me when they offer day and date releases, PC and Cloud “play anywhere” integration and allow seemless play if four generations of catalogue with resolution and frame rate improvements.

You know what this really confirms (not that we didn’t already know) Sony is scared of Game Pass and what it can do, if those contract clauses wasn’t obvious enough. It’s weird seeing Sony do something in defence of something Xbox did and I was always told Sony doesn’t need a Game Pass competitor.

This is proof that competition makes everything better!

Based on Sony’s history I bet this is a complete cluster fuck. They’re going nickel and dime you on everything and make it more complicated than it needs to be. The fact that there may be 3 tiers is already a bad sign.

Sony, don’t over complicate things. Gamepass is so successful because it’s simple and a good value.

The hyperbole surrounding Sony’s 1st party portfolio and studios (Naughty GODS games are toooo biiiiig man!) has reached comedy gold levels. Of course it’s Sony that feeds on this narrative for a few years now but it’s getting ridiculous at this point.

Both are video game subscription services. They “compete” even if they’re not the same.

All I see is a desperate move to offer a subscription service that can pull some people in, but not one that can rival Gamepass, if ever.

MS won’t let them try and take their turf that easily either.

used to be MS following Sony in their strategy long ago now it’s sony that is doing the following and adapting to what should have been changed years ago.

Ok, I see where this is going. I never learn!

They fight for that Prestige so much, the thing that they had a separate section in the end of their fall PS showcase for their titles with Hurnst introducing their own games with a pretentious and pompous intro is pretty telling. lol

I hope they get a bit of pushback for the third tier that has the old consoles on it. A lot of people bought those old games on PS3 and I personally bought a good amount of PS1 and PSP games on my Vita. It’s really trash to gate these games that people might have already bought before.

A very Cult like move haha.

Thr elephant in the room that is missing : the price (and appeal) of these tiers.

Plus everyone already salivating about native PS1/PSP/PS2 BC on PS5 when it’s 99% likely that this will turn out to be the same old PS Now streaming.

yeah, the pricing and how they are going to market these is interesting because the highest for any subscription no matter if it’s games or not is usually $15 a month

there won’t be day 1 games from sony but i expect day 1 games from third party.

there is a share here sony can take from MS. MS needs to bring the content fast. if sony released their games day 1 on ps plus tier than MS will be losing major advantage over sony
