Yes. I see no other reason not to use the standard RRP.
However I dont think they will alter price. Even if PS5de is $399, the seriesS is still a very good price. Especially when gamepass + EA Play is brought into the equation.

This report does make sense. If the original prices were $399 for the digital edition and $499 for the disc version, youād think they would have announced it by now to at least put pressure on MS. Iāve also considered the possibility that the digital version was introduced because they had issues hitting the $499 price point with the disc version. They could always go $449 for the DE and $499 for the disc version but the lower priced console wouldnāt have the same impact if it didnāt start with a 3 instead of a 4.
While strategically it may suck for MS on the leaks, and I feel for the people who had their work ruined, but we donāt know if Sony were planning to announce the prices in the next couple weeks anyways. MS were going to reveal things next week, so Sony may have been in the same situation then anyways.
Will be interesting to see what the PS5 price is in the end. If this report is true, us gamers have benefited, thatās for sure.
Wow according to that itās $400-$500. Imagine if they had been $500-$550. Crazy that.
Matching $499 is not that big of deal, its the bare minimum fans expect. The XsX is more powerful afterall.
They were both going to be considerably more expensive. Iād assume that means 499/599 or similar.
I disagree
The surprising aspect is that according to the site, Sony was thinking of pricing the PS5 higher than $499 for the disc based version at least? If so, Sony is indeed looking to be losing almost PS3 money on each console sold for the digital version.
Itās more about the digital console for 399. But in the end we win anyways and 299 is still a killer price regardless of the the Playstation and the demographic for series s thinks differently and donāt mind worse graphics. WE are NOT the target for series s and a lot twitter folks tend to forget that. (With we I mean us the consumer)
It says so in the article. It could be wrong obviously.
Exactly that, and to be honest, I think MS and Sony already knew about each other prices for a long time.
Maybe :D, I mean I plan to get a ps5 too soo the lower the price the better I say.
I think it is great to allow people to be able to buy two consoles at launch.
I think this idea of āchickenā and the companies being so reactive is quite overstated. Both companies would have targets and have an entire office of accountants that will already know how low they can go price wise, the competing products price wont effect that. The competition may just effect how much of a hit they need to take.
For example, sony could of had an absolute lowest price of $499 and 399 but were targeting $549 and $449, but due to Microsoft they will choose to go for there lowest option, or they may not.
Oh, sorry thought u meant thats what u think the prices will be.
I should at ālaterā not day one
Agreed
My inner fanboy kinda wanted PS5 to be a more expensive then xbox but then I remember that I actually want to buy one eventually.
I kinda want the disc version of the PS5 though I have several PS4 games that I want to keep kinda sucks for people with ps4 discs they want to keep, at least the decision to get a xsx is easier because of the vast power difference.
Playstation pricing left the roam of Sony Interactive Entertainment because the decision to be made is now topic for CEO/CFO of Sony. Taking a huge loss is a risk for Sony in total, so that decision will be analysed from every angle now due to the fact that Playstation is one if two major pillars of income. And even they go down to $399 there is still that effing console that is a) $100 less b) no drive too and much much better looking and smaller. Hard decisions, I can tell.
This is what is so interesting: Even if Sony cuts the price of the PS5 to $399 it will still be $100 more expensive than the Series S, but Sony is having to eat significant losses and will probably still lose market share to Xbox. Ultimately Sony has to do it, but I imagine it is causing the CFO to have a few sleepless nights lol.
I think the sleepless nights start after the decision if all plays out as planned. Btw regardless of how they decide. Too much loss risks financial plans and the company as a whole vs. less loss but also worse market preposition which could cut into the prognosed sales plan. Regardless what you do, you have to take a beating.
