Anyone else get another software update?
I am not sure about day and date release because I think the PlayStation hardware business is super important important to Sony and they still want people to directly buy into their ecosystem. However, I can totally see all their games coming to PC a year after release.
It’s not as important as churning out games, PS5 is being sold at a loss because its an entry point for people to play games and subscribe to services. Software and services is what will enable Sony to justify taking a loss on a console. There is a reason why Sony is also pushing on their accessories pretty hard too, those are low cost, high margin items that can offset the cost of PS5 as well.
I have to give Playstation credit for giving smal multiplayer games a big spotlight each month with ps plus. Great way to find this one niche hit multiplayer game!
Think I am going to hold off until spring to get this. Honestly it’s in high demand right now and by spring they should have manufacturing at a better rate then right now. Plus my Xbox series s has been great for gaming right now. Might get a series x in the spring as well and use my series s as a machine I can take down the shore with me during the summer.
I am stoked for god of war though. Loved 2018.
Just finished Uncharted 4. Has some pacing problems and gunplay is imperfect, but as always, the story, production value and characters are superb (except Sam… fuck Sam). Really heartwarming ending.
I was nervous Amy Hennig’s absence would be felt and it certainly was, especially in the prevalence of “move the block puzzles” and lack of set pieces reminding me unfavourably of TLOU, but on the whole, I had a good time. The rope was dope.
On to Horizon now and Watch Dogs on Series X. Hope to get them done by Cyberpunk, and then try Lost Legacy.
I don’t see day and date without a PlayStation launcher. MS has their own and supports stram because they not only allow Live, but also hold the Windows 10 requirement. Windows 10 and the Windows ecosystem are a massive revenue source so MS can live with giving 30 percent to coax people off Linux/Windows 7 and 8 onto 10 with Office 365 and ad support. I don’t think the economics are the same here hence why the ecosystem is crucial for Sony.
My biggest gripe with modern day ND Games
Any idea if TLOU 2 moves away from it a bit. It was pretty prevalent in TLOU 1, but was pretty much tolerable in UC4.
I never finished TLOU so I never had any interest in TLOU2
ND could make epic action games but they dont… imagine something like gears from them OMG
I ended up getting my hands on a PS5 (always end up eventually with all of the consoles), and I wanted to share a few thoughts from an Xbox primary platform gamer.

Console is really freaking huge. I lowered a shelf in my entertainment center more than I wanted to lay it horizontal, and it is crazy how much space it takes up in there. Standing it by my Series X really made it clear of course.

I have always hated the PlayStation controllers to be honest, but I will admit that the Dualsense seems to be their most comfortable one yet even though I still noticed some hand pain after several hours of use which has been common for me with their controllers. The haptics stuff is neat I guess when trying it out in Astro’s for example, but overall it was less exciting than I expected given some of the talk. I would still much rather play games for long amounts of time using the Xbox controller which is perfect to me, but I wouldn’t be upset I guess if Xbox looked into a controller option with some additional tech if it becomes widely accepted. However, I hope that they can make the battery life better if they do because my experience so far is that the Dualsense battery life sucks. I don’t seem to get more than maybe 6 hours of play time out of a full charge playing Spider-Man and a little Astro’s so far.

The SSD is obviously very fast and impressive when loading up Spider-Man to play, and this along with my SSD loading speed experiences on the Series X is hands down one of the best things about next gen for sure. Although the other huge thing for me is the frame rate improvements for this gen. I have been playing Spider-Man Remastered in the performance 60 fps mode and Valhalla on my Series X in the 60 fps performance mode, and I can’t imagine ever choosing the other option even on my 65" TV that I sit closer than I should. Spider-Man is meant to be played at 60, and Valhalla on the Series X still feels so much better just moving around and riding the horse etc. The clarity of the visuals being maintained when panning the camera and moving in general is highly underrated when talking about 60 fps or higher as opposed to just resolution.

I really hate the PS5 UI right now no matter how “slick” some think it looks or whatever, as it feels like I am doing more clicks than necessary to get anything done. I prefer the current Xbox UI just for getting things done for sure.

It seems pretty quiet in general compared to my PS4 Pro for example, but definitely not as quiet as my Series X if I put my ear near both after running something full power for a while. But it doesn’t seem like any type of problem.

I saw enough comments online about major issues from PS5 users to just avoid hooking up any external storage so far and have just ignored using rest mode. I did have several complete game crashes playing Astro’s and Spider-Man, but none of the scary looking graphical artifacting type stuff that I have seen online from some users. I installed the very latest PS5 system update prior to using the system, and some online have wondered if they did something in that latest firmware there to temper the clocks or something based on some of the initial reported issues being shown.
In summary, I will no doubt have fun playing some exclusives on here once in a while like I have always done with the PlayStation systems, but I definitely prefer the Series X hardware, Xbox controller comfort and of course Xbox Game Pass that gives me so many games to play now and going forward when the first party studios really get cranking up.
I will say this: having spent time over the past month with the PS5, Series X and Switch… keeping track of the X button is really annoying. Lol.
Really? Well then, allow me to take the Series X and PS5 off your hands. Hehehe. Hahaha. Just joking.
PS+ is looking great day by day.
May you tell me what’s in the subscription service?
If you watched the Nakeyjakey review regarding naughty dog game design being outdated, he makes the comparison a lot of times, that last of us is just gears of war at its core. Just that they have a lot of dramatic “movie” type direction over it.
I did not see this coming. Apparently PlayStation’s new San Diego team/studio has been shuttered or there’s been a top level shakeup.
Fuck. I was really looking forward to their game from what I was hearing. Hopefully more shakeup than shutter.
Hopefully the project and entire team hasn’t been totally canned. It’s hard to tell at the moment.
I wonder if Initiative will house any of the devs. They seem to like Sony alum almost as much as they like the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider reboot team.
It’s like a sanctuary for runaway Sony talent lol.
