PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

But don’t the weapon types function as the new stances?

This thread has been a ghost town for a while and it took a first party studio game to bring it back to life. It’s crazy that the platform has finally got one arriving. That said it definitely looks good. I’m not sure if I will get it day one, but we’ll see down the road. It’s going to be a busy quarter.

I guess in a way they do. It just seems like one less step while fighting.

Sony is publishing 5 games this year. They had/have MLB The Show 25, Death Stranding 2, Midnight Murder Club, Lost Soul Aside and Ghost of Yotei. I would say pretty good in general but for me personally, I only care about Yotei.

You know what Sparda means which is games developed by any of the many studios Sony owns at this point, which only two of those titles are actually developed by Sony.

For all the bullshit the media like to spin about Xbox studios being mismanaged or underperforming, or some other equally-verifiably-false bullshit, this is now the third year in a row of similarly minimal output from Sony, while Xbox has had at least triple that output every year for years now (including the dreaded “worst year of Xbox releases” in 2022).

I’m aware and I agree with you.

It’s just that for me personally, I go based on who’s publishing the game so if it’s Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony, them owning the studio or not is simply irrelevant to me because in all honesty, I simply don’t care about that. I’m not going to exclude games like Towerborne, Gears Tactics or a Stellar Blade for example just because Microsoft/Sony doesn’t own Stoic/Splash Damage/Shift Up respectively.

On my lists, going based on just the publishing factor, Microsoft has published 25 new games through Doom: The Dark Ages. 4 of them are from external developers. Sony has published 21 new games through Death Stranding 2. 6 of them are from external developers. No remakes/remasters. The game must be a new release.

Microsoft has 26 internal studios while Sony has 17 internal studios as of now. Publishing wise, 2023 through June 2025, Microsoft has published 16 games while Sony has published 11 games.

Microsoft’s 2022 was abysmal in my opinion but that’s also because they didn’t give me a single game that I wanted to play personally. Since 2023 though, they’ve given me 10 games as of now so I personally have zero complaints.

For this generation and through June 2023, Microsoft has personally given me 12 games while Sony has personally given me 8 games. By the end of 2025, I will have at least 15 games from Microsoft and 9 games from Sony. Microsoft is starting to pull away but to be fair, they do have 9 more studios than Sony and before 2023, im being honest here, I have been waiting for over a decade for Microsoft to finally get going and give me games that I want to play on a consistent basis.

So again, I agree with you but I personally don’t care if it’s from an internally owned studio or not. A game like Keeper which is from an internal studio isn’t for me whatsoever while a game like Ninja Gaiden 4 is for me but is from an external studio but yet, both games still count for Microsoft.

When people talked about this big advantage in games Sony had over Xbox, it wasn’t mlb games or niche Japanese titles they published that they meant.

If I had a PS5 Yotei would be a nobrainer, well, after finishing the first one, that is.

But it’s not a system seller for me. The ever growing backlog on Xbox, not even counting Game Pass titles has me busy plenty. In the PS4 and Xbox One era I kept saying that I will get that PS4, I never did.

Then when PS5 and Series came out I said the same thing, I’ll get that PS5 some day. But I’m starting to believe in the possibility I might never get around to getting one, lol. Maybe the Pro next year if there’s a good deal on it, so that I can play GTA VI (assuming it’s best on it) on it. And of course many other titles.

We’ll see.

Watching the Ghost of Yotei presentation and first couple of minutes(5mins) sounds like it’s very similar to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, both story wise(revenge story - shadows does deviate from it afterwards) and mechanics(getting info about world events).

7 minutes in and it’s giving me even more vibes with how similar the mechanics are, like the traversal, anyone that’s played Ghost of Tsushima, was the traversal like this?

So everything looks pretty damn good, but no matter what was going on I couldn’t help but feel like I already played this game because of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. There was just so much of the same vibe for me, but I guess that could means Shadows borrowed a lot from Ghost of Tsushima? Someone who knows let me know just how much like Ghost of Tsushima is Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

As someone who played and completed both Tsushima and Shadows at launch, I prefer Tsushima by far because it’s simply the better overall game and I had far less negatives/issues/complaints than compared to Shadows.

I do get looking at Yotei and being like, it’s Shadows but that could also be because I completed Shadows just a few months ago on release. With Yotei, I do believe that the story/characters will be better and the combat will be more satisfying than it was in Shadows, at least for me anyway.

Traversal wise, Shadows is very similar to Tsushima and I expect Yotei to basically be the same. The main difference for me though is that coming off Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla, I wasn’t happy that Ubisoft removed the free climbing and brought back grapple points and whatnot. Once you play an open world game that lets you free climb, it’s extremely difficult to go back.

The biggest negative I had with Horizon Forbidden West was no free climbing despite it being 4+ years after Origins. This among a few other minor negatives and nitpicks, I rated it slightly lower than Zero Dawn because I was expecting free climbing and underwater combat. Neither happened.

For Yotei, not having free climbing is already a negative for me personally because these types of open world games, im honestly just sick and fucking tired of always having to look for a grapple point or a spot that I can climb. It’s just so fucking frustrating.

I am expecting Yotei to be better than Shadows but I don’t see it matching let alone surpassing Tsushima for me. Of course, this all remains to be seen.

Visiting relatives and my 11 year old nephew is playing PS5… I told him my favorite PS5 game is Gran Turismo 7… He’s never heard of it. Kids don’t care about racing games. :frowning:

What game(s) was your nephew playing?

Probably should have asked if he played Forza Horizon 5./j

Fortnite, GTA5, and a baseball game.

A bit of a leap, based on the sample size of one.

Probably a good one to suggest though - it’s one of the few driving games that even some family and friends who don’t like racers much have got into, as with the emotes, outfits, cars, stunts, cheesy story, houses and wheelspin rewards it’s kinda got something for everyone

Just a bit of an update on my current opinions about PS5.

Been playing this game on PlayStation Plus premium called GranBlue Fantasy Versus: Rising. The game is really beautiful graphics and I’m having a lot of fun with it. Highly recommend checking it out.

I picked up the PlayStation Access controller on sale at Walmart right now for $50. This thing is super cool. Everyone should go get one. It comes with all the accessories so you don’t need to buy extra stuff for it. It’s just one of the weirdest controllers you will ever use. I’m literally playing it left handed for some reason and it just works.

It’s time to give the PlayStation Portal its flowers. Me and my 9 year old have been doing cross play where I play on Xbox on the tv and he plays on the PlayStation Portal. The built in mic and speakers are nice for portable online gaming. The screen is big. It’s just a cool device.

PSVR2. This rarely gets used by us unfortunately. Although the graphics are way superior to Meta Quest 3, it just isn’t my kids go to VR. He would rather do Steam VR or Quest VR. I still think PSVR2 is great in its own way because of its far better graphics, I just forget it exists half the time :upside_down_face:

Sony’s precipitous fall off in first party output has delayed any notions of returning to the PS ecosystem for me.

I may snag one in a couple months when Ghost of Yotei comes out, but even then I might wait a bit longer for a few more titles before I even bother. I originally sold mine expecting to buy a pro, then pro enhancements ended up generally being a huge wet fart, so I didnt bother. Haven’t missed it at all in that time.

Pleased to see the great reviews for Ghost of Yotei! Probably I’ll still wait until next year to play it, the rest of this year is just too stacked.
