PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

Be aware of a sleight of hands as that is comparing PS4 SOLD against PS5 SHIPPED. So the delta could be more like 3.5 million.

Also on the other point, I saw it being said that PS profit margins is still down around 7%.

Woo hoo maybe hardware sales will entertain Sony fans while dealing with a 1st party drought.

The emphasis on hardware sales in the gaming community is just really stupid.

Personally I think this just demonstrates the issue with console hardware.

Regardless how good the next Xbox hardware unit is, people will still buy Playstation as that’s what they are familiar with and where their game libraries / friends are.

It’s frustrating how correct Phil was about the Xbox One generation being the worst generation to lose. It basically doesn’t matter how much better the Series X might be than the PS5. Sony’s momentum is too strong to be overcome.

Digital Vendor lock-in is real. Same thing has happened with Steam and it’s competitors.

Yea this gen definitely showed that Brand loyalty and marketing is the most important thing.

Xbox had less expensive hardware and also the most powerful hardware for pretty much the first 4 years of this gen, They have also put out more and better first party games, and have a vastly more consumer friendly eco system with play anywhere, gamepass, free upgrades to older games etc.

Yet people seem to be brain dead and just pick Sony on the hardware side. It does not make any realistic sense in the current gaming environment but here we are people again voting with their dollars against their own best interest because the box has a Sony sticker on it.

Objectively Xbox had the better hardware, a cheaper sku, and better 1st part output but facts just do not seem to matter any more in our current world. The “market leader” if we ignore nintendo has the worst consumer experience out of them all and is pretty much given carte blanche to screw over gamers and Nickle and dime them to death. Yay Sony fans sure are “winners” hope them hardware sales make them sleep better at night.

Weren’t the Xbox Series sales almost neck and neck with the PS5 for the 1st three years? I find the move to buy Activsion was where Xbox just gave up on the console side sadly

Friendly reminder, this is not the thread to discuss Xbox. Take that talk to the designated containment zone.

Both PlayStation and Xbox were supply side constrained during the first years of this generation so probably aren’t a great indicator as whatever was available sold

You keep bringing this into every thread. Also if you’re going by “fans” Xbox has more “fans” in their ecosystem than ever (and both Sony and PlayStation combined). Just say consoles next time, which is an area they’ve seemingly given up on for this generation.

Also, this is a PlayStation thread for discussions focused on that platform.

I don’t disagree but too many developers copy those three genres way too much in my opinion and a lot of times, games I would normally be interested in, im not because they’re one of those three genres. It’s not like they’re going away or anything so me not liking them doesn’t change anything.

:stuck_out_tongue:

So with PS5 behind the PS4 (shipped/sold it doesn’t really matter) the takeaway is there has been no growth. Has the PS5 really taken away Xbox sales? If so it doesn’t seem significant. Most likely the missing sales are still on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Hence why I said ‘console’ fans.

Let’s remember that for nearly 3 years we have a massive semi-conductor shortage and also coming out of and going into COVID lockdowns which played all sorts of havoc

It was near impossible to buy a PS5 for 2 years online or in the shops. I think without COVID and what it did to the supply chain, sales of both the Series consoles and PS5 would be a lot better by say 5 million units

Just an fyi the PS4 figure is also shipped, it comes from Sony 's 2017 q3 report. So it is an apples to apples comparison. Not sure about your profit point, is that also compared to 2017? Because that isnt right.

Haven’t SONY been playing the ‘shipped’ game since the PS3 era

It also significantly drove up demand for the first few years.

In financial reports they have always said shipped like most hardware companies as that is what they technically sell to retailors. When they announce hardware sales for fanboys to celebrate on twitter that is always sold to customers. When Sony wants hide how bad something is selling like the PS Vita or PSVR they will just not report figures or lump it in with other hardware.

Sony Playstation is interested in selling consoles and doing what is required to ensure it happens. They are clearly succeeding in it given what the console market is right now.

They are indeed struggling with First Party output and that can not be denied.

These two facts stand on there own at the same time.

They are leading with revenue share.

Nothing to cry about here.
