Like I said, my opinion is not popular. Back in the day when I was at e3 (I worked the booth for the company I worked for), I spoke to John Romero many times. When he was just taking about normal stuff his personality was very muted but when he would talk about Doom and the old days at Id he really had a passion in his eyes. All the game developers are really passionate of their games. People just don’t care. These types of shows might as well be made by AI, would people care? Watching Warren Spector talk about Deus Ex at e3 was so inspirational to me as a developer. Now people would just tell him to shutup and just play the trailer.
It’s always the same lately, some CGI or in engine trailer that looks very interesting, transition into gameplay with some soul-like combat dodge dodge parry parry and the samey visual style.
Aaaand im out.
Shinobi looks decent, and i got trolled with the new Housemarque game when they said “its coming to PS5 and…” thought it’d be a PC release day 1
I don’t even disagree but you’re comparing a live event to a pre-recorded digital show. I get it but having the developers talk which to be fair, there were a few that did just not for long would slow down the pacing of the show.
Did they seriously announce Days Gone Remastered….
Are you super into generic looking AA character action games that are vaguely derivative of something else that people liked? If so, Sony’s got a show for you!
Yes, along with the $10 upgrade cost for current owners.
I wrote 7 or 8 articles and still didn’t get everything coming to Xbox. Multiplats are best! Overall the show was a fine State of Play, people just need to remember what they are meant to be.
And apparently free for PC owners as “Broken Roads” DLC.
A single game State of Play for a third party game is kinda weird isn’t it? Have they done that before?
Tides of Annihilation looks interesting. Glad to see that one is also coming to PC and Series X/S.
Glad to see HouseMarquee building on Returnal.
Yes. Hogwarts Legacy, Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Holy hell, can’t argue with those numbers.
All the more impressive it was done during COVID where for nearly 3 years it was so hard to walk into a shop and buy a PlayStation console
If only the Series console sale numbers were half as good
Not every game is gonna cater to you (or me) so it’s OK if a game is from a genre that we don’t particularly like, there will always be trends in the AA/AAA space and it’s not the first time that we are seeing this in the indystry. There are still a ton of games made that aren’t from the genres above!
Also I will never get those “I HATE X thing” or “FUCK this” posts when we are talking about videogames, people should relax.
Except when it comes to Souls-likes - those really can go fuck themselves as they’ve made huge swathes of gaming incredibly frustrating / completely inaccessible.
FromSoft’s sales success means loads of copycats have flooded the market and even established series have copied much of their combat formula, meaning their flippant attitude of “we’re not going to cater to anyone with any needs, just git gud” has set back accessibility a ton.
We used to have cheat codes, then at least we’d have easy modes, then there was a long period where games became significantly harder and often without any modes / accessibility options.
Thankfully the platform holders and others like Spiders have started to correct that and add them even into Souls-like combat games, but the fact is Souls-like games really screwed up what until then was a progression towards more accessible games…
So yeah, fuck Souls likes!
Roguelikes are great! and Slay the Spire is one of the best games in the last decade, information, not just an opinion , but yes fuck soulslike, i have constant deja vus lately watching gaming shows.
Ye these are some crazy numbers, not just sales but the profits they are making lately, even over doubling Nintendo ones if what i saw was right.
PS5 sold more this 2024 than PS4 did any natural year, and that was with a 800€ Pro console and no big first party game at all (Helldivers 2, but that was bigger on PC to be fair).
While PS4 had some great deals on it’s fourth years with the console at 199$ or 249€ with 2 new games (CoD and Uncharted), and PS5 at least in Europe had trash deals this year, no wonder they are swimming in money.
At this point im starting to believe it’s a matter of time PS5 will overtake PS4, this 2025 seems huge with MH Wilds which will sell consoles, a lot of big games from Microsoft, Yotei and then GTA 6.
I remember i thought in late 2023 that Sony had to make a price cut in 2024 or they’d be doomed, now, after no price cuts, im wondering if they even need one this 2025 to keep selling.
Agree. Unlike most trends that if I don’t like it, I can just ignore those games, the Souls trend actively made other games worse.
